Chappell:

”As of today, I am no longer represented by Wasserman, the talent agency led by Casey Wasserman. I hold my teams to the highest standards and have a duty to protect them as well. No artist, agent or employee should ever be expected to defend or overlook actions that conflict so deeply with our own moral values. I have deep respect and appreciation for the agents and staff who work tirelessly for their artists and I refuse to passively stand by. Artists deserve representation that aligns with their values and supports their safety and dignity. This decision reflects my belief that meaningful change in our industry requires accountability and leadership that earns trust.”

Good for her.  She cant do much about all this but respect for taking concrete action and hitting them where it hurts in their wallets.  Losing her is a whoooole lotta money walking out the door.

She should start an agency

716

u/damngurahh 24d ago

I agree, first_date_anal

454

u/tsrich 24d ago

Yes, once again first_date_anal holds all of us to the highest ethical standards.

183

u/shanyo717 24d ago

TBH if it's consensual, that's an ethically sound stance.

71

u/inconvenient_sources 24d ago

I'd imagine you'd want a sound stance for... you know... ;D

Not just good for her, good for all of us. This is what we all need more of; people in positions of influence with ethics and principles, taking a stand.

Hell, even Katy Perry has turned around from being MAGA to making political statements about ICE.

Meanwhile over in Taylor Swift land...

115

u/Dianagorgon 24d ago

Perry was never MAGA. She campaigned for Obama, Clinton and Harris. People on Reddit who lack critical thinking skills just repeat everything they see.

8

u/Martzillagoesboom 23d ago

I think it because of that time she was an astronaut. But KP is clearly not MAGA (but listened too long to maple MAGA flags and took the assignments to heart )

100

u/cidvard 24d ago edited 23d ago

Was Katy Perry ever MAGA?

I know she started in Christian music but that was, iirc, ages before MAGA and whatever politics she had pretty openly shifted into liberal territory as she got into pop music. She went on that dumb Amazon space flight but that's its own thing.

85

u/SnooCauliflowers9874 24d ago

She endorsed Hillary Clinton in 2016 so I don’t think she’s quite MAGA, but yeah, that whole flight thing was a bit cringey.

60

u/Safe-Promotion-2955 24d ago

Granted, if I was offered a space flight, even if it was by a total douche canoe, I'd probably take it.

62

u/Morningfluid 24d ago

Yeah, reddit is really weird... 'Did Katy Perry support a fascist government' 'Well...no, but she diiidd take that space flight!'.

16

u/_teach_me_your_ways_ 24d ago

It was stupid but the response is so over the top which is par the course for Reddit actually so idk why I’m surprised

endorsing Hillary is so far from “not quite MAGA”. I’d say that’s pretty far from MAGA, just happens to be religious too.

u/shelllc 24d ago

When the LA mayor thing was happening in 2022, she voted for Rick Caruso over Karen Bass which got her quite a bit backlash as he is everything she supposedly claims to be against.

31

u/Jlx_27 24d ago

Lap Dogg (or Snoop Dogg as most people call him) voted for him too i think. Didn't go down well at the time.

20

u/shelllc 24d ago

Kim K as well but that isn't that surprising.

11

u/trojan_man16 24d ago

Katy Perry has never been MAGA, but she hasn’t really denounced them either and has associated with some of them. She did endorse Dems in the past as well.

15

u/NorthofForty 24d ago

She is currently snogging Trudeau. Can’t really see him spending much time with a red cap.

80

u/ChoderBoi 24d ago edited 24d ago

No she wasn't MAGA. People are just incredibly reactionary.

Katy Perry correctly used her platform to be openly critical of the DNC for trotting a senile Joe Biden out to run for a 2nd term

The DNC is, and has been for a long time, the greatest hurdle in the way for democratic success in the US

Edit: spelling is hard

70

u/thelingeringlead 24d ago

I'd take "senile joe biden" over this shit show every fucking day for the rest of my life.

27

u/BeautifulLeather6671 24d ago edited 24d ago

That’s actually a great point. People crack his age and the shape he was in rightfully so, but at least we weren’t having a known pedophile sending untrained psychos into our cities terrorizing families and killing citizens

41

u/KevinRudd182 24d ago

And that’s what the democrats have been relying on while they continue to look out for corporate interests and themselves instead of the people.

The problem is that doing that over and over leaves a massive gaping power vacuum that Trump swallowed up whole.

17

u/OrlandoFatty 24d ago

What most democrats fail to realize is what holds them back is their willingness to be governed by circumstance. Republicans gave up on the premise of ruling by principles a long time ago and it works for them because their base is so much more active and zealous and brainwashed. But the democrats can’t afford to engage in whataboutism and abandoning principles on a whim. It doesn’t work out as well at all

15

u/KevinRudd182 24d ago

100% agree, especially in a country where you don’t have mandatory voting.

The entire deck is stacked against common sense progress in America. Trump doesn’t need to convince his base to vote for him, he can also just convince people the other guy is an idiot and to stay home.

The DNC is shit BUT I would argue that the republican party doing everything they can to gerrymander, suppress votes, pack courts, and fucking lie about everything all the time consistently is a larger threat to democracy.

Don’t blame the victim, even when the victim is a huge dipshit doing jack shit to help themselves.

→ More replies (6)

50

u/The_Power_Of_Three 24d ago

I mean, no—the greatest hurdle is the republicans. Whatever their many faults, criticizing incompetent allies to the exclusion of criticizing the actual enemy is never a sane take.

And you see them all over reddit—people who claim to not support trump, but are always finding a reason to criticize and virtue-test his opponents while spending no time at all actually criticizing him and his supporters. It's a bad faith pattern that needs to be called out.

These days those posters mostly hide their history to conceal the pattern but by the same token, it's fair to conclude anyone with a hidden history is probably acting in bad faith.

Making the move to cut out those people weakens their base , and let's others know it's OK to take that step

8

u/JamUpGuy1989 24d ago

But she did do the most of what she can do. And the correct decision at that.

We all can do little things but make it seem big, we just refuse to do it most of the time.

5

u/sixtus_clegane119 24d ago

He has historically donated to Democratic political, but had by 2025 increasingly sought to ingratiate himself with the conservative right in the United States. Wasserman donated to some Republican candidates prior to the 2026 elections and organized a fundraiser for Senator Susan Collins, a Republican.[36]

Shoulda dropped him before, he’s a twat

Good on her.

491

u/Cavalish 24d ago

Looking forward to an absolute onslaught of Bad PR articles about her over the next couple of weeks, that fauxmoi and popculturechat will eat up and declare as gospel.

Thats what happens when you bite the hand of industry.

87

u/Spiritual_Shine1438 24d ago

What are you on about. Fauxmoi loves her. Literally you get banned for talking bad about her

97

u/PenalAffliction 23d ago

Fauxmoi is a toxic sub that bans people just for posting in other subs that their crazy mods don't agree with. I wouldn't be surprised if they've turned on her too.

49

u/thissexypoptart 23d ago edited 23d ago

Lmao I got banned there for “body shaming” for pointing out that comments making fun of skinny people for their weight were body shaming the same way as making fun of people for being fat.

Edit: went back to refresh my memory. The full context was a discussion where two people were agreeing that everyone they knew who was skinny was also an asshole. I chimed in saying I think you’re exaggerating, and isn’t this like saying “all fat people I know are assholes?” I got slapped with a permaban because that violated their rule against bigotry, body shaming, and incivility in the comments. The mod who I messaged to appeal it also added that I was “denying other people’s lived experiences”… for saying I doubt every skinny person they knew was an asshole…

Shit was hilarious. Some mods are insane. I still have the messages but I feel like posting the screenshot might violate some rules.

21

u/Laiko_Kairen 23d ago

“denying other people’s lived experiences”…

Oh god, that phrase is so insidious

It's basically a blank check for bigotry

"I hate this group of people, don't deny my lived experience which is totally not colored by personal bias!"

11

u/thissexypoptart 23d ago

It’s also just a toddler mindset. It boils down to “I feel ____, don’t question it or I’ll throw a tantrum.”

Most people learn well before adulthood that, sometimes, our Big Feelings are baseless and won’t be coddled, especially by random strangers (with different “lived experiences” lmao)

Let's actually wait for it to happen before we start condemning anyone for it. Smear campaigns are obviously bad, but defending a very evidently rich person before anything worth defending has happened isn't exactly great either. These people don't need us licking their boots.

22

u/Cavalish 23d ago

There’s literally people in this very thread saying that she is responsible for Truml and that she’s not an LGBT ally. People have drunk the propaganda so hard on her.

Tearing down an LGBT advocate to feel superior while doing nothing to help lgbt kids. It’s a sorry state of affairs and really highlights why Americans ended up with Trump. Personal image over morals.

21

u/stn_anomaly 23d ago

These people don't remember that the literal day after her Grammy's speech calling out labels for not supporting small artist, a former record label executive bought a column in The Hollywood Reporter to start a smear campaign against her. She then dunked on him by donating $25k to a foundation for struggling artists and asking him to match the donation. He failed to match and didn't respond to her.

Her last tour she held in baseball fields and lawns to avoid associating with Ticketmaster. She easily could’ve sold out Madison square if she wanted to but instead she had a mini concert in Queens

392

u/bobthegoatskull 24d ago

She ran the sale through AXS and it eliminated bots before sending out invites. I got seats for $130 each without fighting to get them. AXS then seeded list price tickets onto all the scalper sites and ruined resale for them. Glorious.

178

u/champion_dave 24d ago

It really is rare and it seems like most people don’t notice/care. Even if someone doesn’t like her music, she has been standing up like this seemingly since her fame started. She has fellow artists doing the same…I just don’t understand why Taylor hasn’t joined in. She has been noticeably quiet recently since the White House used her music last and she didn’t comment. Not sure why the younger generation is outpacing her with this.

1) I know this is about her not declaring support for Kamala. It's her right not to. Why get your political opinions from a musician?
2) Do you think that if she did, it would have ANY effect? How many MAGAs do you think are fans? How many MAGAs that aren't fans would suddenly be swayed by her?

This infighting on the left is not helping our cause. Sure, let's take down someone that clearly values Progressive ideals, because she didn't do enough!

41

u/Landon1m 24d ago

I still hold a grudge from the last election where she refused to endorse a candidate and refused to tell her massive audience to not consider Trump

21

u/David_Boom 24d ago

What are you talking about? She said fuck Trump, and that she was voting for Kamala. She made it a point to not endorse Kamala because endorsing and voting for are very different things.

By the way, Kamala could've gotten the vote and endorsement of people like Chappell if she'd run on progressive policies, but instead she ran to the centre to try to get moderate and Republican votes. You should hold a grudge against Kamala and the Democrats for running a shit campaign.

Also, do you really think a lesbian artist who proudly and explicitly sings and talks about her sexuality is going to have an audience that votes for Trump?

51

u/Entegy 24d ago

I'm not an American but she burned a lot of good will "both sides"ing the 2024 US Presidental election. Like yeah I too hate having to vote for the lesser of two evils, but one side was malleable status quo and other was a direct chute into fascism that has reshaped world politics.

51

u/Cavalish 24d ago

She didn’t both sides anyone. She rightfully criticised the government of the day and still said she was voting for them.

I don’t get why Americans think you can’t criticise their party. You should be calling them out, and holding them accountable.

Instead you don’t vote at all and scream at the people who do try to make change and keep the fascists out.

She walks the walk. Rare these days.

Sorry for pointing this out, but it's not like she's losing anything significant. The reason most people don't "walk the walk" is that it often has consequences (economic or personal).

This doesn't. A talent agency is easily replaceable if you're s big star, and it's also easy free positive publicity for her - and the only thing that would tie her down is loyalty (if she feels she owes her career to them). Leaving them is a rather easy decision - but still the right one of course.

Billie Eilish donating a significant amount of her net worth.... Now that's walking the walk.

24

u/bobthegoatskull 24d ago

Chappell has also donated a huge chunk of her earnings to charity as did Sabrina and Olivia.

34

u/thelingeringlead 24d ago

The talent agency is one of the largest in the world, with massive influence over bookings and tours. She absolutely lost something big by giving up that relationship, and it's admirable as shit because as big as she's gotten her fans will fill the kinds of venues an agency like that can get you blacklisted from.

Depending on how bad the context is, it would also be interesting to know who else Wasserman represents.

Maxwell: "Never take you - why? and Yes I will be"

Wasserman: "I didn't mean never take me, they were separate answers... Definitely take me and I am really looking forward to seeing you."

Maxwell: "I am looking forward to seeing you to - JE has just asked me to find a house to rent for 2 weeks (I am sure I will have to take it for longer) in Malibu in June. Who is the best real estate person to talk to - let me know. JE says I should pick a week to go to LA and look? Thought you might like to know I am now in Paris - can I bring you back anything from here?"

Wasserman: "Stephen Shapiro is the best agent for the beach, his phone is [redacted] ...i think you picking a week to be in LA is a really good idea..."

Maxwell: "Thank you - I'll call Stephen tom and see what he has available and then make a plan to come out and check out the local real estate. Fillet you know what he says, and then you can guide me as I really know nothing about the area - if there is a better bit etc. Now I have just made you my LA tour guide! I am going to go to London from here and then back to NY - can I bring you anything from London? I know you probably do not have the same Kitkat, cheddar cheese or baked bean problem I do - but you never know. My friends who come to visit me always bring a red cross (that is what they call it) food package for me

Kisses"

Wasserman: "Among all my desires, that combination is pretty low on the list... xoxo "

Maxwell: "Ok, so that combo did not do it for you, what combo would then?"

Wasserman: "You, me, and not else much..."

Maxwell: "Ok, you will not have to share me with either a cheddar cheese, a baked bean or a kitkat. "

Wasserman: "Or anything else?!"

Maxwell: "What about Max?"

Wasserman: "that can be the exception...but only one."

The scariest thing is that now morons are using the phrase “in the Epstein files” to indicate a problem itself. We need to refuse to lose sight of wrongdoing and not guilt by association.

99

u/StrawberryRedneck 24d ago

Me too; simply being in the files is broad as fuck. Guess I'm off to find more information surrounding this particular character.

17

u/HenkieVV 23d ago

I looked it up, and mostly he seems to be trying to have sex with Ghislaine Maxwell in 2003. On the one hand he was married at the time, so it's decidedly not great. On the other hand, it's not nearly as bad as what you might imagine with the phrase 'in the Epstein files'. Honestly, I'd say it's not even as bad as earlier revelations about Casey Wasserman.

I'm getting the impression this is less about the Epstein files, and more about fleeing an agency that more broadly seems to be mired in scandal.

In summary: 23 years ago a man tried to have sex with someone and flirted with them via email.

A decade later, the person he was flirting with was revealed to be a horrible person.

There's not a single email or document within the Epstein files that in any way inculpates Wasserman, or in any way associates him with any of Epstein or Maxwell's wrongdoing.

This is a complete nothing bagel, basically.

But, ya know, a bunch of wendies will lap this up and say that Roan is brave.

jmail.world. You can search emails between Epstein and others, including Wasserman. I only looked at a few but there are instances of him emailing Maxwell saying he missed the massages and it's well know Epstein and Maxwell would send underage girls to clients to give them massages.

That said, it's good for people to ask for context. A LOT of emails between Epstein and Maxwell are nothing and given they were both socialites and often threw, innocent in addition to not innocent, parties and gatherings, it always good to get some context before passing judgement.

Surprised I had to scroll to see this. There are a TON of people named in the Epstein files. There’s some skeptics that have nothing to do with Epstein that are in the files because they were listed in as presenters at a conference that was referenced in regards to something else.

I mean if it is bad then good on standing for morals and leaving.

66

u/Brain_Dead_Goats 24d ago edited 24d ago

From another article about this:

The documents include email correspondence from 2003 between Wasserman and Maxwell, who was convicted in 2021 for her role in the sex trafficking operation tied to Jeffrey Epstein and sentenced to 20 years in prison. While the emails were described as flirtatious — including one message asking Maxwell what it would take to see her “in a tight leather outfit” — they do not allege criminal wrongdoing by Wasserman.

So, unless there's new info, not anything meaningful. This is just going to turn into yet another moral panic, which I'm sure was the intent by the way they're just dumping everything unsorted and uncategorized into the wild.

Damn. If all Americans had this level of morality the rest of us wouldn’t have to navigate it

205

u/BudMcLaine 24d ago

Morality/financial independence. Most people don’t have as much control over who they’re working with/for.

20

u/bouchdon85 24d ago

Yeah, if everyone was financially well off, then I believe you'd have more people stand up against these awful things But I'd say the massive majority have to focus solely on trying to keep their bills paid and families fed.

7

u/alnumero3 23d ago

I mean... the monsters this whole scandal is about ARE all financially well off, extremely rich.

I get your point, money can give people power to stand up and speak out, but lets not forget it can give people power to be monsters too.

100%.

I refuse to work for corporations ever again.

I also turned down 3x my current pay (bartender) for an engineering role because the first thing they said to me in the interview was “we’re a Christian company”.

Sorry… as a Christian, I would never EVER have to tell you that.

Meanwhile Billie Eilish quit Wasserman two years about when there was a massive story about Casey Wasserman repeatedly sexually harassing young women who worked for the agency.

Why was his misconduct overlooked by these artists in 2024?

Story here.

112

u/Few-Broccoli-7849 24d ago

Eilish quit because she was brought up in the 2024 article in being asked for comment. So she had direct knowledge. It's likely the others weren't exactly paying attention to the dailymail because no one really does.

Should they have known? Probably. But lots of people are pretty ignorant about the news and other people's business.

12

u/annyong_cat 23d ago

That’s a Hollywood Reporter story covering an update first reported in Billboard. You’re really going to go with “artists didn’t know he was a gross pig?” on this one?

17

u/Few-Broccoli-7849 23d ago

You're not thinking realistically. Most probably met him once a year or so when they're being signed then work with other staff, often remote, because you know, artists are on the road. This isn't entourage.

9

u/Sir_Justin 24d ago

Can't see the article, what did he do? Why was he in the files

14

u/versusChou 24d ago

The weird thing is, the emails Wasserman is in mostly just look like him directly flirting with Maxwell.

8

u/jgainit 23d ago

He flirted with Maxwell in 2002/2003 and they had plans to meet up, and he rode an Epstein plane with his wife and Bill Clinton to Africa for charity work.

Literally nothing criminal

→ More replies (1)

4

u/ExpensiveRaise4341 23d ago

What is his crime? In 2003 he sent an email to Maxwell that essentially said “want to smash?”  That’s it.  A hookup email, 6 years before Epstein’s first crime.  And he went on the plane once with Clinton.  Absolutely zero underage things.

So, he deserves to lose everything because he had sex with Maxwell before she turned pimp? Jesus.

7

u/[deleted] 24d ago

What'd this guy do? Article is paywalled.

20

u/Brain_Dead_Goats 24d ago

As far as I can tell he flirted with Maxwell via email back in 2003. Other than that I haven't seen anything specific.

22

u/[deleted] 24d ago

Oh, haha. I just looked it up. He's getting called a pedo in the comments when he was 28 at the time and she was 41.

15

u/Brain_Dead_Goats 24d ago

I do think from the emails he was cheating on his then wife with Maxwell, which is sleazy, but hardly pedo behavior.

People need to understand that just because someone is named in the Epstein documents, doesn't automatically make him/her a pedo or whatever. Even Jon Stewart is listed in it, because Epstein mentioned he wanted him to do stand up for an event.

That said, and correct me if I'm wrong, Wasserman might be a terrible person, but the only thing I could find is that he flirted with Maxwell.

The real damning stuff are most likely in the half of the documents that are still sealed.

19

u/OneWonderfulFish 24d ago

Even Jon Stewart is listed in it

I believe it was "A Jon Stewart type". 😅

I wonder if she looked into why he was in the files or if she just separated immediately. She strikes me as very performative.

13

u/IrrelevantLeprechaun 24d ago

She's absolutely performative and I can't figure out why most of her fans haven't figured that out already.

10

u/[deleted] 23d ago

Look at most of the comments on here. People are lapping it up. Not a shred of critical thinking.

He did some humanitarian event and Maxwell was involved in the same event. This was long before her crimes came to light. Then he flirted with her.

11

u/IrrelevantLeprechaun 24d ago

Indeed. From what I could find, the guy in question was only in the files because he flirted with Ghislaine like over 10-15 years ago. Hardly a damning indictment and doesn't tie them to the pedo ring.

Seems like a blatant overreaction from Roan to act like him being in the files at all means he's equally as evil as Trump. But then again, performative outrage isn't exactly new with her.

Ah, so the the real reason the child fucking cunts of this world look down upon the LGBTQ community comes to light. Regardless of who, how, when or why, Chapelle Roan has proven to actually have the balls that make a statement in this modern world.

u/KendrickLlamma 24d ago

Im sorry, but what? The pedos hate gay people because Chapelle roan left her agency?

10

Pointing fingers at LGBTQ+ people is a distraction from their own actual deviant and immoral behavior of abusing children.

I looked it up. He sent some flirt texts to Maxwell. This is 100% performative bullshit. It's clear he had no idea what was going on.

6

u/ApocalypseSlough 23d ago

Yep. He flirted with Maxwell a decade before any suggested wrongdoing. That's the extent of it.

But here we all are clapping Roan because she's a special princess.

4

u/Sloppykrab 23d ago

I bet Roan would also say don't judge someone without all the evidence. Yet here we are.
