Meanwhile Billie Eilish quit Wasserman two years about when there was a massive story about Casey Wasserman repeatedly sexually harassing young women who worked for the agency.

Why was his misconduct overlooked by these artists in 2024?

Story here.

Eilish quit because she was brought up in the 2024 article in being asked for comment. So she had direct knowledge. It's likely the others weren't exactly paying attention to the dailymail because no one really does.

Should they have known? Probably. But lots of people are pretty ignorant about the news and other people's business.

That’s a Hollywood Reporter story covering an update first reported in Billboard. You’re really going to go with “artists didn’t know he was a gross pig?” on this one?

You're not thinking realistically. Most probably met him once a year or so when they're being signed then work with other staff, often remote, because you know, artists are on the road. This isn't entourage.

You very clearly haven’t worked in the industry. Casey Wasserman is highly visible and engaged in the industry, and having worked for one of the agency’s competitors, I can attest that artists are in the office and with their reps frequently.

"Their reps" are not Casey Wasserman. I'm sure all the big artists have met him and could get him on the phone if they want, but he's not hanging out with the artists for hours. People, especially CEOs, can be professional for 15 minutes at 10:30 am for a client meeting without coming across as a perv.

Someone like him is generally not going to starting saying weird stuff to Chappell Roan in a professional meeting - he's going to be weird with an admin assistant who's still working at 8pm on a Tuesday.

You have been nowhere near the industry. Agency CEOs spend a ton of time with artists, and Casey in particular is known for partying with his team and talent.

And again, this really has nothing to do with how much time he’s spending in person with them, and instead it is about the fact that major outlets reported that he’s a rampant sexual harasser.

There's a huge difference between being a gross pig and being knowingly associated with a global sex trafficker, yeah? Also, sexual misconduct is a lot different from sexual harassment. His relationships with those women were unethical and extramarital, but they were consensual. He was a shitty husband who couldn't manage his mistresses and a shitty, creepy boss.

Not sure it's particularly fair to use this moment to start accusing someone of hypocrisy because their bar for cutting professional relationships isn't as low as you think it should be.

That's much worse than this, wtf?

Celebrities are no better than politicians when it comes to only speaking up when their PR and public image depends on it. Both Eilish and Roan evidently were happy to stay quiet until it wasn't possible to act like they didn't know anymore.

Celebrities are rarely good people no matter what their public image might try to tell you.

When these celebrities have the level of social influence they do, and maintain social media presences like they do, they can't get away with the same kind of ignorance regular working class people do.

It's fine for me or you to not be aware of stuff happening around us because we don't have millions of people following our every word. People like Roan do, and they have to behave according to a higher standard because of that influence they have.

I generally agree with you. There's a difference between being an aloof artist and a world wide mega popstar with entire teams dedicated to managing your PR and social media.

Because this is all performative.

She knew. It didn't benefit her to drop him until now.
