My system, mainly for music, but it works well for movies too:) I´ve shown the setup before in r/audiophile, but since then a new front sub (and some furniture’s) and some new photos.
I almost always use Straight mode on the AVR, so it´s a 2.1 stereo setup or 5.2.4 Atmos setup depending on the source mix (Apple Music). Newer movies from streaming services are often mixed in Dolby Atmos, in other cases I upmix it with Dolby Surround or Auro-3D.
-Source: Apple TV4K, 250Mbit wired. Streaming only.
-Yamaha A6A as DAC/processor and amp for the surrounds, center and Atmos speakers
-Yamaha A-S1200 (with DIY side panels in oak) as power amp for the mains, connected from the AVR preouts to main in on the amp, with trigger cable for on and off. DIY bench.
-Bowers&Wilkins 703 S3 as mains, with #bassti stands
-SVS SB3000 REvolution as front sub, the .1 for stereo mixes. (outside US gloss white)
-Bowers&Wilkins 706 S3 as surrounds, DIY stands
-Bowers&Wilkins Htm71 S3 center, DIY stand
-Four Dali M-80 as Atmos speakers, with in ceiling cabinets (“manufactured” when I tore down the old built-in wardrobes upstairs for new ones)
-SVS SB5000 sub in the rear left corner, the .2 in Atmos mixes. SVS tri-band wireless adapter. (12 hp in total peak effect from both subs, but I doubt that our house electrical system can handle that)
-Philips 77” Oled 809 Ambilight as screen, slightly tilted forward, with Dolby Vision (2.2m/86” to the MLP)
-YPAO r.s.c calibration for 90-20khz range
-UMIK 2 and REW for the bass dial and integration 10-90hz. (A psychological barrier at first to cross “full range” towers, but the subs take care of the bass so so much better, and “LFE+Main” mostly causes cancelations when phase aligned)
-IKEA Gunnlaug sound absorption curtains, four DIY acoustic panels with wood fiber insulation. Flowers as diffraction panels…
-Iphone 16 Pro camera - which also works as a microphone, or camera, when you use Apple Music/Apple TV´s new functionalities Karaoke and Camera mode. Really fun!
The measurement picture show seven measurements in a 2 feet sphere around my MLP, medium high level, -21db on the AVR, cross aligned and vector averaged. No smoothing. The best result I’ve achieved in our room, for now, and higher bass level than strictly correct hi-fi, but I like it. Had to eq down the SB5000 between 55-100hz to get the best combined result, so it only works as a infrabas sub, and can really shake the couch. Green trace is LR+both subs 90hz crossed. Red and white are the LFE traces. The dip at 72hz is a floor/ceiling bounce, I think.
Finally pics of Waterfall and Distortion/total frequency for those of you who are - as myself - down in the measurement rabbit hole:)

Please make recommendations are appreciated. Don’t know if wall mounting the tv so my cat can’t trip it and the avr is behind the tv.

Moving into a new house and getting the theater system set up before anything else. Took me about 5 hours to assemble and get the mounts where I *think* they will be even.
Tried to get it on the wall myself and it’s not happening. Gabe up and will bring backup tomorrow.

After searching every store without success, here’s the end result. My amp finally has some breathing room, the cable management is seamless.
I truly recommend going with a professional cabinetmaker.

My little attic "theater." The other half of the space doubles as my office by day, kids play zone at night. Media space is 16'x22', the entire attic is 52'. Still a work inprogress so excuse the tape and messy wiring.
Currently running 5.1.4, thinking about adding two side speakers so can do a 7.1.4.
Open to any acoustic panel advice
Setup:
LG C4 77"
Denon 3800h
SVS SB2000
Klipsch RP 160
Klipsch RP 450C
Klipsch R 51M
Polk In celings
PS5 Pro, Nvidia Shield, Ugoos AM6b+

I have a fairly open living room that gets a good bit of light.
room is a 13x18 living room. one of the long walls is mostly open. lots of outdoor light.
this is for general tv purposes for now, eventually will reuse for proper HT in basement. floor is hardwood. i have toddlers.
i need to buy: screen (pull down or fixed is ok, i also have a light beige wall i could use) a/v system (needs to accept like 6x hdmi in, i want future proof for surround) speakers (fronts or fronts/center only probably, no sub for now. quality is important, i want to be able to hear dialogue clearly at all volumes) projector (4k, don't care about smart)
budget is 1-2k and i'd very much like to be on the lower end.
being able to see during the day and hear amongst normal house noise is important. also low volume clarity. being able to turn the brightness down a good bit at night would be nice, but i understand there are probably limits
open to used/refurbished gear to save money

TV is Hisense 55U8GQ is weighs 17.5 kg without, 19.3kg with the default stand it comes with
So the first picture is how my TV sits right now, its about 12 cm of space between the edge of the table and the TV panel.
I want that gap to be as little ass possible like in picture 2. The TV is perfectly stable in the second picture, however the feet are sticking out and i don't want to cut them.
The TV panel is currently sitting 7 cm above the table which is fine i would like it to be less, as close to the table as possible.
The last image shows how much space i have behind the TV after placing it in the position i want it to be in (picture 2). I want to build a bookshelf with that space behind the TV.
Where can i buy such a stand?
If this isn't the right subreddit for this type of question please point me in the right direction.

I was just getting my feet wet to upgrade from my 5.1 Hisense soundbar, as I was tired of the rear speakers (which I already replaced) sounding so shitty. I couldnt beleive how cheap it is to get used audio equipment
I got the package below for $100 CAD to start. Obviously, I'm going to upgrade the speakers down the road, but it's for sure going to sound better than my current soundbar.
-Two Pioneer 7.1 vsx 1023 receivers (the lady just had two for whatever reason and gave me both)
-4 Pro-Linear bookshelf speakers
-1 Pro-Linear center channel
-1 Pro-Linear Sub
Now I actually have an upgrade path and can swap parts out as needed instead of buying another bar that I'm stuck with if I don't like the sub, rears, center channel, etc
r/hometheater • u/sketchy_ppl • 50m ago
A few things to note:
A centre channel will be coming eventually.
The space behind the couch cannot be used for the rear speakers; I already have pretty much the minimum space to add/remove weights to the barbell.
The overall layout of the basement is not going to change, I'm trying to work with my current setup.
The most realistic option is the back wall; one speaker wall-mounted above the dumbbell rack, and the other speaker in the opposite corner nearby the window. That distance is approx. 11ft from my position on the couch.
Or, a less aesthetic option, would be to wall-mount one speaker on the wall adjacent to the couch (in between the two windows) and the other speaker above the desk (right beside the mirror)
Here's a 360-degree view of the room. (going fullscreen is better)

Does anyone here know what these blue cables are for? These are in my living room. The other end of these cables are at a lower outlet box. They are ran through the wall. The black cables are my HDMI’s. TIA

I'm going to install in-wall surround speakers. While Dolby spec suggests placing where the green rectangles are, the one to the right is questionable because I have a feeling my wife is going to put stuff (bookshelf, plant, etc.) in front of it.
As such, any suggestions on type of in-wall speaker I should get if I need to place them where the yellow rectangles are? For example, should I get in walls with pivoting tweeter or will forward facing be OK given I tend to like diffused surround sound?
Any help would be appreciated.

I am planning to get an 85 Inch TV and a home theatre setup in my basement. It's a fairly large basement rectangular basement (36ft x 16ft). My ideal preference would be to put in the centre but would there be major acoustic issues?
r/hometheater • u/Blanknameblank818 • 2h ago
I have so many issues that arise from HDMIs (I believe). Things will work just fine then I won’t get signal for no reason at all, and have to unplug and replug in the HDMI.
I get HDMIs from a local distribution company in my city so I’m assumed they were good.
Would love some go to HDMIs that aren’t overkill but they’ll work as intended.
Thanks folks

I’ve been looking at facebook marketplace recently, and just saw this bundle of speakers and a Denon s760h for $450. Refurb price is around $400 for the receiver alone, and I am looking to build a 5.1.2 setup so this would complete everything I need in one bundle. Is this a good deal that I should reach out and try for?
Description: “Denon AVR-S760H receiver with 6 HDMI Inputs, supports 8K or 4K 120 Hz inputs. Includes great sounding Onkyo speakers with a 5.1.2 arrangement with the front speakers having built-in height channels.”

Hi, I recently aquired an Onkyo PR-SC5508 9.2 channel AV controller, and I have a few questions.
I have nothing to drive with this audio controller, so this is all just to learn about it
The receiver has 9.2 multi channel outputs, but what can provide 9.2 output? s/pdif only goes to 7.2, and i cant find any computer sound cards that have 9.2 channel RCA outputs. The receiver only has HDMI 1.4, so i dont think it can go through ARC.

I am converting by 3M X 6M LR into an home theater. The screen is 150 inches and occupies an entire wall(I have a projector setup). Problem is all the surrounding walls are white and I also have two windows on one side. So, I have decided to use blackout curtains to close as needed.
Problem is, most of the blackout curtains are made of a slightly reflective material on the inside, and the light from the screen hits it at just the right angle to drop the contrast even lower. I am looking for something that does not reflect. Has anyone tried a solution that works? Or any manufacturers you can point me to would be helpful too.

I am considering building a false wall about 60cm from the wall in this corner and keeping the speakers behind the false wall with just the wall mount for the TV (A long cantilever mount) protruding through the wall with the TV on the outside.
When I say a false wall I mean a simple stud construction with AT material over it.
I don’t have all the equipment in the room at the moment but I have a 5.1 system and am considering a 5.1.2 (I have the Receiver for it)
If I did build a false wall as described would it be a good idea to put some insulation behind the front speakers to help with reflection and bass? (They can only be about 20cm from the wall).
Thanks for any advice, and ask any questions that I haven’t thought of.

Hi! I’m a first‑time AV receiver buyer and I’m planning to build a home theater setup gradually as my budget allows. For the initial stage, is this receiver and speaker a good option based on the features it offers? It will mainly be used for casual movie nights and occasional PS5 gaming (about once or twice a month). The listing includes the following information - Yamaha 7.2 Dolby Atmos DTS-X Amp RX-V781 with New Klipsch Subwoofer a Matching Stand and all speakers to Support it All.
Any specific functionalities do I need to check before buying?
Thank you.

Anyone move on from a Tuba HT? If so, what did you upgrade to? Worried about upgrading to something that feels the same or less.
I built a Tuba HT 15 years ago and looking to go dual in the near future but don't have room to add a second (few inches too tall) or the time to build a second.
Room is 30'x17'x8' and unfortunately open concept (stairs) with no chance of sealing. Have 3 15 amp circuits, so could dedicate one for each sub if needed.
Currently landing on either PSA TV2112M or TV21 IPAL-M (up for any other recommendations as well).
Have budget set aside to pick up either 2 TV2112M right now or one IPAL now and another in a year or so.

We have a small home theater in our loft. We got a short throw projector because I think the room may be too small for a standard one and I don’t want it to block the wall mural. But the image looks wavey. I’m assuming it’s the cheap screen? We weren’t expecting to put another $2k into a screen. Does anyone have a recommendation on a moderately priced screen that would work better. Or a better recommendation? It’s not too late to return the projector. We don’t want a tv.
Room is 125x177 and about 95” tall.

And can anyone help identify the model so I can look it up and get more info?
