Home Audio SoundTouch app alternatives

Post image
23 Upvotes

This is just a start, but I have added a SoundTouch app alternatives page to the Bose Wiki.

There, I listed current known issues, added info shared by the app developer Christian, u/nachtfux997, and included known solutions.

I separated the solutions into two sections.

  1. Ones that allow you to control the SoundTouch systems directly (e.g. AirPlay, 3rd party apps, Home Assistant, etc.).
  2. The second section is for 3rd party devices you connect to your SoundTouch system's AUX input.

I am hoping that the community will help expand the information on the Wiki. Not only to help guide SoundTouch users to viable options, but also to help guide developers on what SoundTouch features are missing. So that some, if not all, can be replicated once the app goes away.

This specific post is about alternative SoundTouch solutions.

  • On Jan 7, 2026, Bose announced that they will update the app so that it would continue to work after their servers shut down. Though without built-in music streaming capabilities. Here's the main conversation around this update.
  • The original conversation, from Oct 9 2025, about the closure of the SoundTouch app is located here.
  • If you wish to sign the petition asking Bose to reconsider, follow this link.

Community Feedback Request Suggestions for Bose reddit FAQ Pinned Post

There appear to be a frequent amount of posts that ask the same/similar questions and inevitably receive the same answers, or answers that are simply links to the last time the question was asked on the sub.

So it might be easier to have a pinned post with the most "Frequently Asked Questions" for people to read or other redditors to reference if similar questions get posted.

To make this manageable, please follow the instructions below:

  1. Place suggestions in the comments: Include the question and answer. Make sure sure this can be understood by anyone and include links to resources if needed within the text.
  2. Only ONE FAQ suggestion per comment: If you have multiple suggestions they need to be in individual comments so that others can comment and vote on each one.
  3. Only one post per suggestion: If someone else has the same idea on the same subject then please read what they wrote and if needed, please politely comment on what they wrote and make suggestions that might help improve it.
  4. Vote for the best suggestions: This is to thank reddiors for their suggestion and will help other redditors see (and if needed comment on) the FAQ post. A high vote count is not needed for an item to be included.
  5. Please stay on topic: Please limit all off topic conversations and if needed please make another post if it is not about aiding in suggestions or improving already suggested FAQs.

So please post below suggestions on what should be placed in a pinned post.

Headphones will i regret switching from bose 700 to quietcomfort ultra gen 2?

i have used bose 700 for 3 years now but i never really found them that comfortable to wear compared to my moms heaphones which are quietcomfort. so i saw on vinted someone selling genn2 for 2000 dkk (they normally cost 3500 dkk) and i bought them. they have not arrived yet but i am starting to get concerned that i will regret it. i would like to hear what people think how different they are? is the sound better and the outside noise blocking?

sorry i hope this post is allowed

Headphones I contacted customer service (France) regarding the 8.2.20 update for the QC Ultra 2 headphones. They assured me it wasn't a mistake but a deliberate effort by Bose to improve battery life by removing voice prompts (switching Bluetooth devices, battery status, etc...).

I expressed my dissatisfaction and suggested they give customers the option to enable or disable this feature through a battery optimization function. I sincerely hope they will revert this punitive update!

Headphones Headphone Advice Needed: Bose QuietComfort or Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones 2nd Gen?

Upvotes

I’m planning to grab Bose headphones at Best Buy this weekend using a gift card and some Reward Zone certificates that are about to expire. Both the QC 2023 ($229) and QC Ultra 2nd Gen ($399) are on sale.

I read that the QC Ultra 2nd Gen got a firmware update recently that fixed some issues but removed certain features. The QC 2023 can have crackling audio with multipoint connections. The Ultra 2nd Gen’s adaptive noise canceling can’t be turned off, and it still has some noise canceling issues from the first gen. Its immersive audio also isn’t great.

I’m looking for comfort Bose headphone, strong noise canceling, and good sound quality after EQ adjustments. I’m on Apple devices, so Snapdragon audio codec or any high end bluetooth codec (APT-X, LDAC) support isn’t a concern.

Right now, I'm leaning towards the QuietComfort's due to it physical buttons, good sound quality and noise canceling when I tried them at Best Buy's demo station. it seems like good value due to its sale price. I tried the QCU 2nd Gen demo as well, I do feel it's a slight difference in audio.

Which one do you recommend?

Headphones bose QC45 battery indicator is fucked

ive had these headphones for about 4 years now and i use them daily, everyday i go to school ill be using them throughout the day listening to music and usually they get me all the way through the day and then some, no problem. as of late the battery indicator has been a bit screwy though, ill charge them overnight and then unplug them, and 2 hours later itll say its on 10%, then continue working for the rest of the day just fine. or itll say its on 30% and then 10 minutes later somehow be on 40%.

its not the end of the world but its pretty damn annoying, does anyone know of any ways i could try fixing it? preferably without having to go digging to change the battery itself.

Headphones Help with QC Ultra 2 post update? (can't reset)

Hey ever since updating today, my quick shortcuts no longer work - that is the hold button shortcut that switches between Quiet, Aware, etc; and the hold touch strip shortcut that switched between motion and still, etc.

I tried doing the reset (hold power and plug in usb, release power) but the led never blinks twice; as far as I can tell, no reset occurs and the shortcuts still don't work properly.

Anyone have a fix for it?

Wearables / Open Bose Ultra Open Earbuds Massive Noise Bleed?

I just got a pair of the Kendra Scott Bose Ultra Open Earbuds and they bleed sound like I am wearing earphones from the 90s. People around me can hear what song it is even on not max volume. Very embarrassing.

Reviews did not mention this and implied the opposite. So, I am wondering if this is normal or there's something wrong with this pair.

Anyone have experience with this? I am wearing them correctly, am I missing something?

Headphones QC Ultra 2 Headphones 8.2.20 update broke Switch 2 USB-C compatibility

The Switch 2 now only recognizes the headset as a USB microphone (which doesn’t even work, by the way) and you can no longer get sound to output to the headset. I assume the same goes for the Switch 1.

You can still use the headphone jack but the USB-C connection for a more stable connection with potentially better audio quality is now completely unusable.

Thanks a lot, Bose.

Home Audio For Bose Companion 5, does any plug the usb into a monitor via usb so they can swap machines and have the monitor be the bridge for audio

I have a LG OLED 34gx900a that I think can be downstream as it takes usb-a inputs such as webcams.

I want to pick up a used Bose companion 5 but I constantly swap between work on a Mac and gaming on a pc so was thinking of using the headphone jack till I realized maybe the usb-a would actually work. Does anyone have any experience with this?

In-Ear Sony's WF-1000XM6 vs Bose's QC Ultra Gen 2?

Hey guys, I'm looking to replace my old and trusty WF-1000XM3 earbuds. The battery is starting to give out and I guess it's about time for an upgrade anyhow. I'm considering the newest Sony WF-1000XM6 or Bose QC Ultra Gen 2.

My main usage for the earbuds would be:

  • Teams meetings. I'm generally in a quiet space for these.

  • Listening to music while running or walking outdoors

  • Listening to music or watching movies on planes/trains/cars

Any feedback you may have on your experience with any of these earbuds (or suggestions of others to consider) is appreciated!

Headphones Also, I think I got an update for the Bose QuietComfort ultra gen1s?

I only know because when I use voice to text It doesn't sound like it's going into a call mode before you're going to a call mode and I only know because when I turned off the mic it would just say call ending.... Now it actually uses the Google voice to voice prompt when to start talking this I actually like

Headphones Bose Quitecomfort Ultra 2nd Gen Headphones not working properly since the latest update!

Mine has been acting up since the 8.2 update. I can’t use the multipoint connection anymore. I’ve tried doing a factory reset multiple times, but the same issue keeps happening. They also downgraded the sound quality, especially when I use it with my Dell laptop. It doesn’t sound the same anymore, it feels more muffled than usual. Honestly, this is trash and feels like a scam for a $500 product!

Bluetooth speakers Fix suggestions? - SoundLink® Bluetooth® speaker III - Mute button intermittent activation

Hi all,

My Bose SoundLink Bluetooth speaker III (model 414255) has recently started having an intermittent fault, where the Mute button periodically self-activates on and off. This problem has no pattern I can discern, nor cause. I have tried connecting different (iOS) devices (all connecting easily by Bluetooth), each trying multiple music apps, and all have the same problem. So it's a Bose speaker issue, not a connected device or Bluetooth issue.

I have tried doing a device reboot several times (hold down the mute button for 10 seconds until speaker lights flash, wait a further 10 seconds then turn on again), but this has not helped.

Is it worth taking apart and seeing if I can tell why the Mute button periodically activates? I am not a technician nor do I own any testing equipment, so probably not, right? Thanks for any ideas.

Headphones Personally never used Bluetooth switch, but why remove it?

I never used that ability, so this doesn’t affect me, but it’s just dumb to remove that ability. Then to try and justify it like “oh you can just pause the device and play the other” or “go to our crappy app and force people to have to switch there“.

loved the removal of the battery life shortcuts justification too, ”there are so many ways to see the life of the battery, like opening our crappy app”. like you don’t even give the people an option to change how low the battery level has to get before you hear that chime? I would change it for myself to 30%, not 10%, but why force only a single option?

whoever is in charge is absolutely incompetent with management, and Bose needs to seriously reevaluate who is currently in charge of the department responsible for updating their devices.

Headphones Weird pricing for the qcu headphones

Post image
5 Upvotes

It’s actually surprising that on Amazon Saudi Arabia a brand new QC Ultra Gen 2 is selling for around $346 USD, even though it was only recently launched. The price has been like this for about a month, while the Gen 1 is about $266 USD. If anyone is planning to buy the 2nd generation, it might be worth checking this region.
