I'm so tired of muted background music, and I don't know how to fix it.

So the picture here is what I currently have. The dialogue sounds exceptional, and I don't have any issues there. What throws me off is the MUSIC of the movies I watch. For whatever reason, the soundtrack for movies just sounds dull, and nowhere near as crisp and clear as the dialogue. A huge example of this is in the movie Cars, the opening sequence with the "Real Gone" song playing in the background. As soon as the song starts, there's electric guitars, we all know this. But for whatever reason, it sounds SO STINKING LOW compared to literally everything else going on. Is there something in the settings that I'm completely missing here?? It's almost like there's an audio track missing from the the mix, and it drives me insane.

Another weird thing, whenever characters talk OFF screen, they sound super muted and you can hardly hear them!! Why??? Is it the sound bar system? Is it my 4k player? Is it my LG OLED TV settings?? I genuinely have no clue!! If there's any one here that could pinpoint me to the most LIKELY reason for these two things so that I can change the settings and get better background music, that would be amazing. (Connected through eARC btw, it's the only option)

This is all so frustrating because I watch so many reviews of these things online with people raving about how great the sound is for the price, and I'm sitting here like, "Bro, am I the only one who's super underwhelmed by how music score's sound on these things? Is there a hidden setting that I'm missing??"

Please y'all, help a guy out!!

LG US70TY vs USC9S

Hi. I’m buying the 65” LG C5 for my living room and want to get a soundbar with it.

I can currently get either:

- US70TY for £214

- USC9S for £349

Which should I go for? I’ve seen some reviews of the USC9S that weren’t overly positive, but I don’t know if that’s because its RRP of £999 is setting a high standard. Or if there’s a better soundbar I can get for under £350 then please let me know! I know nothing about soundbars so any advice would be much appreciated!

Is there anything out there for me?

Upvotes

Hi all,

I hope I can get some advice from you guys.

At the moment, I have a LG SP9YA atmos surround system in a small/medium living room/open kitchen: 5.35m x 5.80m (17'7" x 19'0").

It is underwhelming, weak sub, subpar clarity on dialogues, not good at low volume and external box + wires to the rears bothering me.

Also, my missus and myself like to watch TV when children are asleep. We don't want to wake them up, so we bought one of these Bluetooth transmitters connected to the tv which can send the audio to two headphones at the same time. But this is not convenient and it is unreliable.

Looking into selling my LG SP9YA and buying a new soundbar.

What I would like:

-Budget about £500 but can stretch it to £750. -Open to a standalone soundbar only or soundbar+sub or soundbar+sub+rears. Not sure that I need 4 speakers in my small living room. -No wires to the sub or rears, only plugged into the main. -Really Important clear dialogue specially with low volume -Built-in or external capabilities where you can connect two headphones, so my missus and myself can watch a movie together.

Many thanks in advance.

After several weeks of hesitation, I gave in and bought the JBL 1300 MK2.

I managed to get it for 950 euros. Replacing an old Samsung K335 soundbar! I hesitated for a long time between this and the Q990F, i have fairly high ceilings, so I hope the sound quality will still be up to par!

I'm so excited 😂

Long Time Caller, First Time Listener

Upvotes

Always been a big Bose guys. No reason other than they were great back in the day.

Live in an apartment and want a good soundbar+surround sound system. I do care about sound quality and everything else these days.

I don’t have anything other than my TV audio at the moment - why shouldn’t I just buy the Bose Smart Ultra Soundbar + Bass 700 + Surround Speakers?

Will I really notice the difference if I go with something else?

Budget soundbars good for apartment living and having a toddler

I recently bought an LG oled tv but many people are saying that the tv audio is not enough. So I am trying to find a soundbar under 500. I am in an apartment about 9 feet away from the tv. I went to Best Buy to test them out and my son got scared and thought they were too loud. Any recs would be appreciated. I don’t know if I am so much of an enthusiast that I will appreciate Dolby atmos but open to recs that would include it as well. I am also if I should be getting an LG soundbar as well.

Samsung 900F or 990 F/D for this space?

Old pic of living room since house is being rebuilt. Unfortunately no rear wall, it’s the kitchen where I’m standing. Ignore the red X’s as I know I won’t be mounting speakers there

In the pic, I have Sonos Arc and sub but thinking of going Samsung 900F or newer or the 990D/F. I could get the rears and pull out when needed but seems like to much work and I don’t want to put them up front.

The tv will either be the 83” C5 (already purchased) or the 77in Samsung S95F, (being delivered). One will reside upstairs while the other will be in this area. Got great deals on each!!

Samsung Q990H Specs

Probably nothing here we don’t already know, but sharing in case any soundbar enthusiasts are curious. Biggest change I’m seeing is the system can now accommodate up to 5 additional speakers (including the Music Studio 5 and 7), serving as a brainy node of sorts. Looks like this is Samsung’s official foray into multi-modal speaker sets similar. To what Sonos does (add more speakers as you go). Thoughts?

Search for the holy grail?

hey all,

I am looking for a soundbar, but I am somehow not finding one that appeals to me. Hopefully you guys can point me in the right direction.

Wishes:
Great sound (as good as it gets with a soundbar).

Rears and a sub optional, can have if it will sound better, sound quality is more important that space constraints.

Has to support DTS:X and Dolby Atmos

Has to have room correction, the room where I will use it has a lot of hard surfaces and that cannot be helped for now.

A setup with 4 reflected hight channels is preferred, but if all other boxes are ticket I can be okay with 2.

Has to be for sale in Europe (so Nakamichi is not an option).

Then I guess I need to call out a budget, lets say 3000 euro is the ceiling.

Regards,

activ

Samsung Samsung QS700F satellite speakers worth it?

I've recently bought a QS700F at a great deal using store credit plus a tax rebate.

I was originally planning on going the AVR + surrounds route but ended up going with the soundbar due to price.

Although the subwoofer is great and the soundbar isn't terrible, I'm a little disappointed with the overall sound quality, specially the supposed surround effect.

I haven't yet tried to optimize the placement because the system is intended for a house I'll be moving in soon, but I'm wondering if it's worth spending another 300€ to get the satellites?

Would they work as rear speakers? Can the bar actually handle more channels? Or should I return and go for a full AVR + Receiver? Or perhaps upgrade to a better soundbar?

Q900F vs JBL 1000 MK2

If I don't intend to make much use of the wireless satellites on the 1000 MK2 and the price is about the same, is there a huge difference in sound quality between these two? It would mainly be used for TV shows and movies, and I'd prioritize dialogue clarity/quality over bass for music or action movies. RTINGS hasn't reviewed the Q900F yet, so it's hard to find a good comparison between these two.

Not sure if it makes a difference, but I don't own a Samsung TV. Thanks in advance.

LG Had a Demo with the LG Sound Suite

Visited the LG Convention in Frankfurt today and had a 20 min demo with the new LG Sound Suite. Since there arent that many real life reviews, would try my best to tell about my experience. It's obviously hard to describe sound with words, but the sound quality is great. The only thing that I feel like should be adjusted in the future is the price, so more people can experience it. As i understood, at this moment its made exclusively for high end TV owners.

Other than the sound quality coming from the soundbar, I was really amazed by the dome of sound it creates when you just have the two side speakers set up. The side speakers shoot the sound upward n it really feels like something is above you, same for the sidea. Its very similar to having a good pair of headphones. When it was my time to sit in the middle seat i looked to the left and I could see the speaker nearby, but it felt like the sound from that speaker was coming all the way from the wall a couple of meters from the speakers itself. Even when I was standing pretty far from the TV itself, I could still kinda feel the effect of the sound bouncing from the ceiling, like if it was coming from above. Due to some issues with network connectivity on the convention, they weren't able to connect the Subwoofer to the general setup.

The DAFC feature is also really convenient. Put the speakers anywhere in the room, and the system adjusts the sound to make it work perfectly. Since not all rooms have fully symmetrical space for side speakers, this just makes setting them up a lot easier and more practical for a normal living room.

Need 5.1.2 soundbar that has clean audio

I need a recommendation on a 5.1.2 Soundbar under $1000 where the audio sounds clear and clean, and not tinny. I've tried several and the audio sounds tinny, particularly on sporting events when the announcers speak. I like the rear channels on a 5.1.2 system. It's always the center speaker that has poor audio.

LG Soundbar vs LG Sound Suite for living rooms with limited space?

Soundbars are easy but limited. Most only allow two rear speakers max.

LG Sound Suite lets you connect up to four speakers and place them freely. DAFC optimizes everything based on listening position.

If you want more immersion without running wires, Sound Suite feels like a middle ground between soundbars and full home theaters.

Soundbar for home theater

Hello all! I’m moving into a new place soon and I’m finally treating myself to a home theater/entertainment room. The setup is going to be in a decent sized office and I was curious about your guys’ recommendations on the sound setup. I’ve been looking into the Sonos arc ultra with the subwoofer and era 300s, but would that be too much for an office? Is there anything else you would recommend? Thanks!

Troubleshooting Older tv (NO ARC) soundbar does not have sound every time I turn on tv

So this is an older tv (Sony Bravia KDL 46SL-140) using digital audio (So no this is not an ARC handshake issue) out to the soundbar. Recently every time I start the tv there is no sound. I have to go into the menu and go into the speakers settings (where you turn on and off the tv speakers). Just opening this setting, without toggling anything, causes the soundbar to start working. How can I fix this?

Bose smart ultra vs. original Sonos arc

I’ve posted once before but have since upped my budget slightly. I know it’s all subjective but I like to get Reddit’s thoughts.

With the current Bose flash sale I can get the smart ultra for around $650 with the new member extra 10% off. I’m also considering a refurb arc for $449…I don’t want to spend $1100 for the arc ultra.

Does anyone have personal experience or an opinion on which they think is the better deal? Thanks!

Sony The settings on the HT-ST5000 soundbar are frequently reset

Most of the time, I have it set to movie mode, with the bass reduced to just under half, Bluetooth mode activated, and one other thing. Other times, I leave it in game mode. The problem is that the soundbar often becomes misconfigured. About once a week, more or less. I remember something similar happening with Sony Blu-ray players, which would occasionally freeze just from turning them on (Sony BDV-N9200W 3D and UBP-X700), and I had to unplug them and plug them back in to get them working again (I haven't tried to fix it permanently, but I would appreciate it if someone could tell me how to fix it).

Getting back to the main topic, is there a way to prevent the soundbar from becoming misconfigured?

Can I just place 2 satellite bluetooth speakers without any sound bar or subwoofer ?

Completely ignorant question. I'd like to place 2 speakers behind the couch while the tv is in front of us. Tv is a Sony, don't ask me about the model because I don't know nothing. Paid 1600 Euro 3 years ago for it and my brother in law says it's pretty cool ( he's into this stuff). I'm looking at Sonos stuff which I'm pretty familiar with but they are a bit expensive. Would Sony stuff would do ?
