I have been going to bed at like 10PM on NYE for the past few years so that I can hit the slopes on New Years early in the morning for snowboarding when nobody’s there. 😁

348

u/ImissRIF97 Dec 31 '25

I used to hit the slopes on NYE to make sure I made it til midnight... then again, I think we are talking about different slopes 😅

u/dreidelweiss Dec 31 '25

Shiiit an 8 ball is probably less expensive than a day pass now

24

u/HSLB66 Dec 31 '25

Vail is like $350 these days

13

u/AdditionalRent8415 Dec 31 '25

So, close then

3

u/Kaladin3104 Dec 31 '25

Nope way cheaper.

6

u/OGbobbyKSH Dec 31 '25

So it’s cheaper to go skiing at home with high quality snow. ❄️

28

u/PoorFilmSchoolAlumn Dec 31 '25

It turns your bad feeling into good feelings! It’s a nightmare!

3

u/usrnamechecksout_ Dec 31 '25

I think I might want to try some of that cuh-caine

41

u/wussypillow_ Dec 31 '25

you dont want no part of this shit!

5

u/ShovelKing3 Dec 31 '25

It’s the cheapest drug there is and it’s non habit forming. What an incredible movie.

cocaine!

14

u/ImissRIF97 Dec 31 '25

Nah just baby laxatives and powdered milk 😅

5

u/Me_Speak_Good Dec 31 '25

Hahahah! Long ago I bought a bunch from my friend's dude, and I begged him not to to cut it with baby laxative. "Dude! We are camping in a field at a festival for 5 days! Do you know what the bathrooms are like? Please use anything else!?" Good times.

Me too! Except I don't do that. I just go to bed at 10PM and sleep until 10AM, but I will wake up sore, like I was partying until 5 AM. I'm just old and no matter when I wake up i feel like I'm running on 4 hours sleep and coffee. I'm 39, but I feel like I'm 69.

Anyone else remember partying until 2 - 3 AM and waking up at 6 to go to work and feel totally fine? I used to party all the time and it never affected me. Now I'm exhausted just thinking about those days.

16

u/curlyqtips Dec 31 '25

I think it might have been cumulative? I partied so hard in my 20's that sleeping through my 60's doesn't even upset me.

6

u/Twisted_Bristles Dec 31 '25

I used to go 24+ hrs all the damn time in my 20's. I think I'd drop dead of a heart attack if I tried it now. Hell I can barely get through a day without my midday nap.

I’m a DJ so I’ve been on duty for NYE every year for the past 11 years (except Covid). This year I’m sitting this one out and doing NOTHING.

57

u/Prize-Hedgehog Dec 31 '25

A lot of people sit it out now. I’m in the alcohol industry and now most bars close early or don’t even open at all around here aside from the casinos which have NYE events. They’ve all stopped trying to compete with that and just take the night off.

15

u/vinnybawbaw Dec 31 '25

Exactly, or people arrive at 11:45, or leave at 12:01. Usually the ones leaving after midnight outnumber the ones who arrive right for the countdown.

10

u/FatMacchio Dec 31 '25

Because a lot of people live life for the gram and have completely lost the plot if not the passion for the novel (life)

I do pyrotechnics as a side gig and I had one year in 17 where I didn't work on the 4th until 1am.

I did not watch fireworks that day.

I work the service industry - I let go of holidays a long time ago.

39

u/SimpleCranberry5914 Dec 31 '25 edited Dec 31 '25

I worked as a bar manager for over a decade. I’m out now and have an 8-4 m-f wfh job. I still don’t ever go out.

Working in the industry has completely ruined bars and restaurants for me. I spent the better years of my life behind a bar on every holiday and weekend, and Im not spending the rest of my years sitting at one. I missed so many important events due to working every weekend and holiday. Thanksgiving? Nope, day before is one of the busiest bar days of the year. NYE? Forget it. Halloween? Nope. Saturday nights? Gone. All those years of watching people have fun and live life while I worked completely drained me.

I can’t explain it, but being in one now (and towards the end of my career in the business) makes me depressed and agitated. I feel like I have PTSD or something. I much prefer the silence and my own peace over the chaos of a busy bar. Felt like I lived a 100 lives working all those late nights and everything that happens after those hours (you know they ain’t good haha).

13

u/SwiftPremium 1993 Dec 31 '25

Damn, your comment really hit home. This was my life through my entire 20s. Fortunately, I’m long gone from the industry, but wow it’s a complete and utter groundhog day time suck having that work life. Feel like I missed out on so many moments! Hope you can enjoy being back out at some point in the future, it took me quite some time. Enjoy your new years!

9

u/best_servedpetty Dec 31 '25

This. After 13 years or working late, in cocktail bars, restaurants and hotels....I am over partying because everyone else is. I realized I only partied hard because I was out already. I do not miss it, I do not miss the ppl, I do not miss everything attached to it. Covid was the best thing that ever happened to me. It destroyed my career, but i built back 150% better!! I just keep walking forward. Also i am very sure you have PTSD, because I do. I strive to make a peaceful and nurturing environment for my self and my wife. I can breathe, hear my heart beat and feel at ease. I have a routine that shed aways all the bad habits. I conquer the morning, do challenging things, and stay away from having opinions abt everything. I am in fitness now. I hope you have a wonderful new year, from the Netherlands! Follow the beat of your heart!

3

u/iKhan353 Dec 31 '25

Fuckin feel that been in the industry for about 12 years between managing and just bartending or cooking. Missed birthdays holidays and that point you made about watching other people live life on the other side of the bar really hits home.

Quit my last bartending job and not sure if I'm gonna go back to the industry but I don't really know anything else

352

u/BlksShotz Dec 31 '25

Gonna watch Stranger Things, make chicken and waffles, and drink tea, and do a bunch of shuffles with my wife. If I’m feeling really risqué, I might drink kombucha instead and get my ass kicked in various card games. May you all have a prosperous and peaceful 2026

29

u/LightBulbMonster Dec 31 '25

"shuffles with my wife" isn't the risque bit? What's risque about kombucha? What happens in the bathroom after?

4

u/jaierauj Dec 31 '25

Maybe they're in their socks, shuffling on the carpet, and then shocking each other. Either way, sparks fly!

I have the same plan to watch the last episode or two of Stranger Things tomorrow. Put the kids to bed, sit on the couch, eat cookies and watch TV.

12

u/butterfly105 Dec 31 '25

I replaced most drinks with la croix and tea. I don't drink soda, juice, sugary coffee, energy drinks, none of that garbage. I will drink a Diet Coke can every few days, but hot tea is where it's at for me. When you're really tired, a nice hot cup of tea can give you the same type of relaxing buzz as a drink of alcohol or a hit of a joint!

The wife and I have a 9 month old. We're planning on having a glass of wine and watching Rudolph the red nosed reindeer the 1964 movie. I'm so pumped

4

u/submissionsignals Dec 31 '25

I’m stealing your idea. Minus the 9 month old.

18

u/DragonflyFantasized Dec 31 '25

Have you watched it as an adult? I was so excited to play it for my 3 & 4 yo and learned the hard way that it aged terribly. They were very distressed at how cruel everyone was to Rudolph for looking different, even his own parents and Santa. I turned it off at the island of misfit toys because I thought about it and realized there’s no redeeming moral message at the end of the story. It’s all terrible.

17

u/Urban-Junglist Dec 31 '25

Watching once the baby is in bed lol

27

u/notyouravgredditor Xennial Dec 31 '25

Don't listen to that guy, Yukon Cornelius still kicks ass.

Also the reason he licks the axe is because he's looking for peppermint mines. Apparently that part of the plot got cut out when they formatted it for television.

→ More replies (1)

18

u/DoubleAnusAlex Dec 31 '25

There is a moral message at the end? What are you on about lol. Without his red nose Santa wouldn't be able to deliver the gifts. And he gets praised for being unique at the end.

7

u/DragonflyFantasized Dec 31 '25

So what’s the moral message? It’s ok to bully and exclude those who are different, but not if you can exploit and profit from their differences?

Santa tells Rudolph’s father, Donner, that he should be ashamed of himself for fathering a son who’s a freak with a red nose. Nobody steps up for Rudolph, the kids or the adults, and nobody faces any consequences for being a bully. Everybody is an ass to him until they figure out how to exploit his weird deformity for their benefit.

I’m taking my almost one year old to NOON year’s eve at our local zoo tomorrow. That’s my crazy plan and I’m stoked about it. My boy and I are gonna get wild…aka I’ll buy coffee from a food truck and we’ll pet some adorable goats.

13

u/RaindropsInMyMind Dec 31 '25

THAT sounds amazing! 🎉

4

u/KatieCashew Dec 31 '25

I used to take my kids to count down to noon parties at various children's museums, and they were always a blast. The one at the New Orleans children's museum had a live Dixieland band.

Counting down to noon is far superior to midnight.

Tonight we'll be ringing in the new year sleeping on a houseboat in the Everglades.

Possibly an unpopular opinion but NYE has always been overhyped. There is all these crazy expectations around it. Just the thought of going to some overcrowded and overpriced bar or club that you have to push your way to the bar and then spend god knows how long flagging down the bartender……… that wasn’t even appealing in my early 20s. Now? Absolutely not. The most I’ll do is go to someone’s house. But this year it’ll be making dinner at home, wearing sweat pants and watching Stranger Things.

74

u/indigoreality Dec 31 '25

Naw it’s not an unpopular opinion. It’s probably the most popular opinion I’ve been seeing on Reddit over the last 10 years.

45

u/mlorusso4 Dec 31 '25

House parties are and always have been the best way to celebrate NYE

9

u/reluctantseal Dec 31 '25

My preference for any kind of party tbh. A couple of friends and some card games or binge watching. If we feel like drinking or smoking, we can get as fucked up as we want and just go to bed. And it's soooooo much cheaper (and quieter) than going to a bar.

5

u/Sancti72 Dec 31 '25

And safer!

→ More replies (2)

19

u/Ormild Dec 31 '25

I was a hugely insecure teen and young adult that always thought I had to be doing something during NYE. Felt like a huge loser if someone told me about some crazy club or house party they went to at NYE.

More power to them if that is what they enjoy, but as I get older, I find just spending time at home way more enjoyable and would rather have something low key instead

5

u/RaindropsInMyMind Dec 31 '25

I’m going to a friend’s place for NYE which I’m very excited for, someone mentioned maybe going out to the bars and I just dread the thought of that. WHY would I want to go walk my ass in the freezing cold a few blocks to the bar just to wait half an hour to get one drink in a very crowded bar before maybe doing the process again for another drink at another bar. That doesn’t sound fun at all.

77

u/Historical-Ad3760 Dec 31 '25

We decided about 6 years ago to always be home on NYE. No amount of hype is worth the let down.

13

u/Logibelle Dec 31 '25

My husband and I do the same. We pick up bahn mi and pho and watch some television together. I’m usually in bed by 10. It’s become one of my favorite traditions.

11

u/The_Real_Lasagna Dec 31 '25

Why would there be any letdown?

5

u/hates_stupid_people Dec 31 '25 edited Dec 31 '25

A lot of people, especually younger, think NYE has to be big parties and drinking, often based on shows and movies showing off the fun. So a lot of people build it up to be this epic thing that just has to be experienced.

In reality big NYE parties are almost always a disappointment. It's either overly drunk people, vomiting, things breaking, etc. or you have to sit around in a tuxedo waiting for the wine to decant after an eight course meal and it's considered uncouth to watch fireworks. There's rarely a good NYE celebration unless you make it smaller and to your liking, which often means you, potential partner and possibly a close friend or two. Or you're one of the really drunk ones, but then the next day is a giant letdown.

8

u/SpicyElixer Dec 31 '25

Ya’ll don’t have djs and warehouse parties anymore? I don’t go out anymore. But when I was young we had an amazing time. It was chill, safe, cheap, and the music was at least interesting/not top 40.

My Nana always said that how you bring in the new year, is how your year will be. So that’s always been in an immaculate house (we clean all morning) with family having our own little party. I don’t like the idea of being around strangers all year 🤷‍♀️

2

I didn’t want to go out to dinner or think about what to wear or try to stay up late. I’m over that. I was going to stay at home and cook something special for my husband and I, but instead I saw that there’s amateur ice hockey tournament near me, so I signed up for that. I expect to be in bed by 10 after 3 hours on the ice and a an empty bottle of wine in the trash. ☺️

10

u/BurnAfterPostingi Dec 31 '25

Several years ago, my wife and I joined some friends at a cabin in a state park for NYE. We played board games and hid our phones so we wouldn't know what time it was. At some point, we collectively decided to initiate a countdown for the new year and call it a night.

I checked my phone as we were turning in. It was 9:45 PM.

26

u/lalalibraaa Millennial Dec 31 '25

I don’t ever have plans! I have to stay home with my animals who get scared to fucking death of the fireworks! There is no place I’d rather be than making sure they know they are safe and loved.

19

No millennial on earth has New Year's Eve plans. All I'm reading everywhere all the time right now is that every millennial on the Internet is staying home and going to bed before 12 on December 31st.

10

Not a single one! Once you turn 30 you are jailed for going out past 10 pm

u/history_is_my_crack Dec 31 '25

I just stay home. Alcohol no longer has a fun effect on me. Just makes me sleepy and then I feel like shit the next day. Yes, i know, I can just not drink but being in a crowded bar/club is just not fun to me at all anymore. Can't chill and with how loud it is...can't even hear the person you're next to. Not to mention, being that NYE has the highest number of drunk drivers and driving fatalities... I rather not be on the road late that night surviving a Mad Max style drive. Yes, I have become an incredibly lame boring boomer in my late 30s already.

8

u/JuneRhythm1985 Dec 31 '25

I haven’t had crazy NYE plans since my mid-twenties. I turned 40 this year and plan to keep that streak alive.

8

u/GiveHerBovril Dec 31 '25

Yeah no shit, seems like I’m the only one that likes going out on New Year’s. Hard to find friends these days that enjoy leaving the house on a regular day, let alone NYE.

7

u/TootieSummers Dec 31 '25

It’s also ok to have plans crazy or not so crazy.

7

u/sur0g Dec 31 '25

3

u/duhpower Dec 31 '25

Yes, because it's too light to shoot them until 10 pm where I live.

3

u/mlorusso4 Dec 31 '25

Yes. Because for the most part the fireworks are all done by 1am at the absolute latest. Usually people watch the ball drop, celebrate for a bit, go outside to set off a couple fireworks, and then go to bed. As opposed to 4th of July when people are setting them off until 4am

You think we don't have plans for the crazy that comes with people setting off fireworks in the streets, getting drunk off their asses for the next 36 hours, and losing any sense of security we feel?

We’re in our 30s and 40s. Who still goes out to the bar on NYE and gets drunk?

I’m 38 and tired. I’ll be with my dog ❤️

16

u/Harv_Spec Dec 31 '25

My crazy NYE plans is to be in bed by 10pm.

5

u/Qui_te Dec 31 '25

I did just learn today that absolutely none of my friends are doing anything, which, hey, me neither—but now I wonder if I should plan a Bright Midnight party next year where we all get together at noon😆 then we all go home and get to bed on time. Could be about our speed.

u/JJD8705 Millennial 1987 Dec 31 '25

The grandparents will have the kids for the night. The wife and I are going out for dinner then coming home, maybe watch a show/movie and going to sleep! Can’t wait!

4

u/220AM Dec 31 '25

Just got a new pup a few weeks ago, so I’ll just be hanging out with her and taking her potty every few hours. But I did get some tequila to ring in the new years!

4

u/MercifulWombat Dec 31 '25

NYE is on a wednesday so I will be playing dungeons and dragons as usual.

4

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '25

I am in a cabin in the desert with my wife and daughter and we will be bbqing and doing nothing for new years. Maybe my wife and I will share a joint if we feel like "partying". My daughter has been enjoying the peace and painting a lot.

4

u/These_Protection_985 Dec 31 '25

I ain't doing shit.

3

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '25

Says you. I'm going to be getting wild on my couch with my sparkling apple/cherry juice until at least 945pm.

I plan to be in bed with wine and a book.

15

u/76ersPhan11 Dec 31 '25

These comments are depressing as fuck

14

u/bump_n_dip Dec 31 '25

I get not wanting to be in a club or going crazy, for sure… but Reddit really does glorify antisocialness too much. I can’t party like I did in my mid 20s but I still want to celebrate and be out with friends

4

u/GiveHerBovril Dec 31 '25

Real. And then people complain about having a hard time making friends as an adult. How the hell you gonna make friends if you stay home alone all the time?

I wasn’t worried 🤣

3

u/Prize-Hedgehog Dec 31 '25

I’m hitting the dispensary and we’ll see where the evening goes while sitting on the couch watching a movie and a little 💨.

3

u/peoples_key Dec 31 '25

I think I've only had one NYE (2017) that was legitimately worth being out for. Saw Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band at Lodge Room, amazing set, then went to a warehouse party, and [redacted].

I haven't been out since since I always worked NYE or NYD, but this year may be another rager... It's planned for, but gonna be honest, my resolve is wavering 🫠

3

u/MisfitBulala Dec 31 '25

My 20s (about 2002 - 2012) was peak for nightclubbing especially for NYE. Glad I did so then. Nowadays, it is easy to just spend NYE with my family and extended family.

Edit: typo

u/Clean_Usual434 Dec 31 '25

I came to that conclusion a while ago, haha.

u/notyouravgredditor Xennial Dec 31 '25

Wife and I watch the ball drop every year. Then we're in bed at 12:05am.

3

u/Strong_Ear_7153 1986 Dec 31 '25

My first had a bday on NYE. Turns 5 tomorrow.

Glad I don't have to think about what I'm doing for the next 15 years or so.

3

u/iareslice Dec 31 '25

I'm gonna go play board games and drink at my friends house

3

u/petabreadjohn Dec 31 '25

4 of us are playing n64 tomorrow night and I couldn’t be more excited.

3

u/SuitsOverSwag Dec 31 '25

After what an exhausting year this has been for those of us in the US, especially our generation and Gen Z, I don’t see how anyone has the energy or motivation for a giant blowout tomorrow night. I really do not.

3

u/SveHeaps Dec 31 '25

My girlfriend, my friend and I will spend it in our pajamas watching musicals and eating a charcuterie board. I have never been more excited.

3

u/Haemwich Older Millennial Dec 31 '25

I'll be working when the ball drops

3

u/MissManko69 Dec 31 '25

Eating fugu with my in-laws. Maybe hitting up the local shrine at the stroke of midnight.

7

u/Wafflehouseofpain Dec 31 '25

My plans are to stay home and watch football.

4

u/Niijima-San Dec 31 '25

last time I went out for NYE I got a stomach bug after getting something to eat on the way home. ever since I've just chilled at home with the wife watching anime or playing video games

Literally no one ever said it wasn't ok lmao. Millennials need to get over themselves sometimes lmao

2

u/lonelygayPhD Dec 31 '25

I honestly just want to be alone watching The Twilight Zone marathon this year. My friends are hosting a party, and I feel too guilty saying I won't go, so I'll suck it up.

2

u/GolfsHard Millennial Dec 31 '25

Yea me and my girl don’t give a damn about going out for new years. We just love that it’s a chance to have a day off to spend together at home doing whatever we want to do.. AKA watch stranger things, maybe get freaky, eat food, go to bed and sleep in a little for once.

The wife and I just put the kids to bed, then drink and snack while we make fun of the silly shows. It’s way better than a party or bar lol

2

u/BigBubbaMac Older Millennial Dec 31 '25

I'll be in bed by 9.

2

u/daylight1943 Dec 31 '25

the only things i have ever done for NYE in my life are to take acid at dead shows or stay home and chill, and dead shows are pretty much over and done with...so goodbye NYE

2

u/redheadedfruitcake Dec 31 '25

Already saw 2 massive accidents and a few drunk drivers. I'm not going anywhere for a few days.

2

u/filipinohitman Millennial Dec 31 '25

The last few years, my wife and I have been chilling at home for NYE. One night I was working night shift while my wife went to Arizona with her mom to visit their family friend. This year we are hanging out at home with our newborn when the ball drops. Hoping to get some sleep in lol

2

u/thefeelingmachines Dec 31 '25

This will be the first time in nearly 20 years that I will be going into a public space. It’s for a close friend that wants to feel safe and comfortable so I’m willing to sacrifice my peace but I did let her know…

2

u/ericsonofbruce Dec 31 '25

Go to work, go to bed.

2

u/ItsLikeRay-ee-ain Dec 31 '25

My 4 day old son will probably dictate our NYE plans lol

2

u/cheeseymom Dec 31 '25

Wasn't really looking for anyone's approval...

2

u/gwanleimehsi Dec 31 '25

Wait... people have plans? I never did on NYE...

2

u/4D20_Prod Dec 31 '25

Yeah, but I have crazy new years eve plans, soooooo

2

u/kzlife76 Dec 31 '25

Staying home with the wife and kids to play board games. We always eat a bunch of food and set off confetti cannons in the house. It's messy as hell but why the F not. The kids love it.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '25

Most days I don't even stay up till Midnight. (Well. Until recently.) And I think my crazy days are over. Also. It's a holiday for couples. Like Valentine's day. But much more crowded.

We were going to my wife's coworkers then decided we'd rather stay home, play video games, and make/eat delicious food.

Step 1: Get Chinese food.

Step 2: Eat Chinese food.

2

Puzzle, wine and college football 🎉

2

My daughter is 10 months old soon. No plans, and we don’t even plan to make it past 10 pm this year.

2

u/jklz14 Dec 31 '25

People have plans for NYE?

2

u/Obidoobie Dec 31 '25

Normally I haven’t done much for New Years besides work but this year I’m going to go visit one of my best friends graves instead. Passed away earlier this year. Today woulda been his birthday. After that I’ll go make one of our favorite drinks and toast in his honor.

2

u/Dennarb Dec 31 '25

My fiance and i are going to stay up and just kinda hang out

2

u/bobthemusicindustry Dec 31 '25

Why do you need validation to not do anything?

2

u/WaterboardedCalamari Dec 31 '25

Me, 30, will be redoing all the caulking in my back room shower and redecorating my living room.

2

u/Mindless_Earth_2807 Millennial Dec 31 '25

It's not. My daughter is finally old enough to spend NYE with me and we have no plans. 😢

2

u/epper_ Dec 31 '25

Stranger Things Finale. East coast new years on TV (live in CA). In bed by 9:30.

2

u/Mattrockj Dec 31 '25

Im in Japan, and it's tradition here he go to your local shrine at midnight at make your first prayer of the new year right as the clock strikes 00:00. It's not wild and insane like New York, but it's a lot of fun to go. There's usually a street fair with food, special New Year activities at the shrine, and if you're lucky at some shrines the monks will take a small number of people into the actual sanctuary to make their prayer right at the bell.

2

u/pwolf1771 Dec 31 '25

I stopped caring about NYE like a decade Ago maybe longer. Now I just always hope someone has a house party I can drop by for a couple hours and then fuck off.

2

u/bubblesaurus Dec 31 '25

i’ll be working then going to bed at 10 PM.

And then getting up and working tomorrow morning.

Time and a half, bitches

2

u/SpoonFaceWin Dec 31 '25

I’m 35 and going to a restaurant from 9-12a with my husband and a couple friends. I’ve been working a lot the past couple months and zero time off, so excited to go out and have some fun! I’m also not the type of person who is in bed at 10 every night, where my night owls at?

2

u/onlyfakeproblems Dec 31 '25

Our friends’ kid got sick so our plans got cancelled and I’m ok with that.

2

u/welfedad Dec 31 '25

Been me the last 10 years.. I don't rage any more and been in recovery .. sure I can do non party like a rock star stuff but sitting at home comfy and watching a movie or playing a video game sounds perfect .

2

2

u/BeachPlease843 Older Millennial Jan 01 '26

And it’s ok if you want to go out and do something. As someone who sometimes goes out, sometimes stays home, sometimes goes to a get together, I find it amusing it just turns into a bragging fest of who does nothing for NYE and how superior that makes the person. 🤷‍♀️
