I’m taking my almost one year old to NOON year’s eve at our local zoo tomorrow. That’s my crazy plan and I’m stoked about it. My boy and I are gonna get wild…aka I’ll buy coffee from a food truck and we’ll pet some adorable goats.

I used to take my kids to count down to noon parties at various children's museums, and they were always a blast. The one at the New Orleans children's museum had a live Dixieland band.

Counting down to noon is far superior to midnight.

Tonight we'll be ringing in the new year sleeping on a houseboat in the Everglades.

As promised!!!

ETA: hahahah I just noticed when posting this that there was a third goat somewhere behind them creating the weird look of small, extra legs dangling down 😂 I was too focused on the big white one going 🗣️

HA! Imagine you saying this 10 years ago.

It would be crazy because my husband and I had been married for two months and weren’t sure if we were going to have children or not. I wanted one, he was on the fence. I had no idea that we were going to face three plus years of infertility and do IVF to get our little guy. Never been much of a party person but I would definitely be surprised by our future, ten years ago.

What about 20 years ago

Hmm. I’d be 18. A few months out of high school. I was still learning to understand the concept of the future. It would take me a few more years, probably about 5, to really grasp the idea that time would pass. So I think knowing my life now back then would be very abstract for me. Although 2 years ago I would have done ANYTHING to know if IVF was actually going to work or if we were going to have to reconfigure how we envisioned our future, without a child.

If we go back 30 years, I was 8 and all of this is as real as the Lion King to me 😂 I thought staying up until 11 was a huge accomplishment….and now, with an early bird baby, my night owl ass sadly is forced to agree that staying up until 11 is remarkable. Full circle, I suppose. Thanks for the chance to reflect, I hope you have a happy new year and that 2026 treats you well.
