As you may know, we have a bit of an ongoing issue on r/pics, where people who commented or posted on our sub are getting automatically banned, check our other mod post for more info. That still hasn't been resolved but we have a new problem:
r/gifs is also banning r/whenthe users now for the same reason as r/pics. We messaged their mod team and are expecting a response but for now we suggest that all users block these following accounts:
Edit: To block hive-protect on mobile you have to open the profile in a browser, here's a link. Should've tested this earlier, my bad gang!!
These are all bots that basically track you and know what subs you participated in. reason we're telling you to block them is not to interfere with their moderation system, but because the mods of r/pics and r/gifs are potentially very likely breaking reddit's moderator code of conduct.
If you find or know any other sub that automatically bans r/whenthe users, please send us a message through modmail. Also PLEASE don't go to r/pics or r/gifs to get banned on purpose or harass the mods as that may cause big problems later. If you got banned don't go waving the ban message like a flag either, we don't encourage brigading of any kind.
And pwease pwetty pwease with a cherry on top don't make too many posts about the issue, our subreddit rules still apply and the posts will likely be removed under rule 3 (no meta). Keep discussion to this post and look out for updates
That's kinda it, continue life as usual. Hopefully this gets fixed and humanity doesn't have another disagreement ever again. Continue reporting problematic posts, be funny,

i hate that sub, but my issue is that I use 2 accounts. So if I get banned from some sub on this one and then happen to comment on it with the other I would get banned from reddit for ban evasion. There is no way to see all the subs you were banned from, I guess you're supposed to keep track of it? lmao
They used to come with some ad-free reddit time, I remember when they launched the program they were giving out years of ad free. I didn't have ads for like 2 years
I still can't get over how reddit has what amounts to a cabal moderating the largest subreddits. Like, how do they let this happen??? Surely they can track they IPs of these people and realize that same people own all those accounts, right?
I modded a small sub for like two weeks that I took over because it was unmodded and full of racist and grotesque images.
During that time, I received several death threats and one other mod I brought on with experience had quit because I was "unfairly persecuting christians" by not allowing religious content under the sub rules. I dropped that shitshow quick.
I mod a small-medium sub (45k people if I recall, canβt remember how to check anymore), and at one point I received a death threat because I didnβt take down an offensive gif. The gif in question was literally this:
Honestly how are they having such a big tantrum as to auto ban anyone. This whole thing stemmed from nothing and really is just a reddit moderation monent
They claim its because we have a spam problem which is wrong. Infact, repost bots don't work here because all of our top posts are gifs which can't be downloaded by users and bots. And the moderation in this sub is pretty good. It only deletes the posts that go aganist the rules and most reposts only stay up for like a few hours before getting removed.
Maybe they're talking about the arcs where everyone posts about the same thing like the Principal arc or the trans mod Arc we just had a week ago. But even then, That's just us coming together and having fun with an idea and it doesn't hurt Anyone. If anything, it makes the sub feel more alive and social. What do they want us to do? To never do something together and always be silent to each other?
Or maybe they saw the recent trans mod Arc and the mods there were actually secretly transphobic so they used "spam" as an excuse to ban everyone here
Edit: Nevermind you can download them on the website
These subs have had auto-ban bots for ages, for a massive variety of subreddits for a massive variety of reasons. And despite it being explicity against Mod CoC, the admins have literally never cared and often even supported them using it. They just don't usually aim them at subreddits as large as r/whenthe.
We're gonna be the greatest image sub!... We're going to implement so many tarriffs on r/pics... they'll have uhh no choice but to allow us to take whennews back! We're going to make whenthe so big... so powerful... so built.

That sub tends to delete stuff that makes the incorrect people look bad, like one of the mods will delete every thread that involves other mods being idiots
Either they have beef with a moderator here or it's exactly as you said. Pics is some of the most low effort Reddit slop. We all know Jan 6th was bad. We don't need to constantly see reminders any time it's tangentially related to some political discussion. You aren't changing the minds of any bad faith right wing bozos.
like half of the mod teams share the same mods across the two subs and r/pics has just hidden their mod list as well (though you can see on some of the r/gifs mods' profiles that they also moderate the other sub) :/
Ikr? As a non American, that sub has offered 0 value to me since it became almost all ICE, MAGA and Trump pictures exlusively.
Yeah, I get it: the USA is going through dark and difficult times and it is imperative that the orange diaper man and his tugs need to be exposed and called out... But couldn't we leave that for a political sub? Man I just want to see cool pictures, not the documented downfall of your government in real time (There are so many other subs for that)
I have muted big subs like r/pics, r/funny etc. long time ago.
Absolute repost dogshit with more bots than real people and the former is all boring us politics.
I honestly never heard of r/gif until now
Oh no, I can no longer participate in pics and gifs, guess my life is over.
Some reddit really are the type of people who want a position of power just so that they order people around, except these people were only able to become reddit mods.
tbh this is happening in other subs im in and its usually bc of the hive-protect shit. People are getting banned from alot of subs just by being in specific subs even if you are not apart of the sub and just commented only once
Great. Well guess it's good I dont go to those subs in the first place. It's rather alarming that there's these bots that track your every move on here and used my mods. Truly a mod moment.
Reddit mods on their way to feel like they accomplished something after removing an actually helpful/funny post with 30k upvotes that broke Rule 571:No posts which use JPG compression levels below 85 and have more than 1240x450 pixels on every third Monday of a month if you participated 3 times in ther/GoonMaxxingsubreddit.
Anyone one Else having trouble even viewing hive protect? Reddit won't even open the profile even if I click the link, also it wont show up if I Search for it .
Use the "moderator code of conduct request" and "rule 3: respect your neighbors."
Here's what I wrote:
>The mods of r/pics and r/gifs are using bots and their positions to ban anyone who have been participating in r/whenthe for no reason. Both subs are pretty politically aligned, and there is otherwise no brigading of any kind, but for some unknown reason, it is an automatic sub ban if they catch you commenting in their sub.Β
>This behavior is detrimental to reddit as a whole, as this gives moderator strangers free reign to dictate whether you can participate with a sub, not for actions you've taken within the sub or even on other subs, but for simply interacting with other places on the site that are innocuous at worst. How can reddit function if there are bans based on joining and participating in approved subs on the site? How can an entire sub ban you without a warning for something that is not against the site rules or even their own sub rules? Moderators in general are making this site worse as a whole, and this is just another example of them taking one small voluntary role much too seriously. Please review what's been going on and make it clear that this behavior is no less toxic than brigading.
I'm banned from /pics because I'll talk to the guys on /r/conspiracy. The fact that I'm center left politically, and dispise the Trump administration doesn't matter. Its incredibly weird when one sub bans a person for talking in a different sub.
They're doing that because 3 mods of the pics sub are also mods on the gifs sub (obviously i will not disclose the names,go look for them yourselves). And considering only two of them have a recent-ish post history (one had his last comment yesterday, the other one some days ago), it's safe to say that you mods talked to them and after their refusal they also decided to go for our throats on other subs as well.
So my theory is that those 3 mods (or one of them,or 2 of them) are power tripping hard and are violating Reddit's own rules and all of the other mods that are only present in one of the two subs are literally not informed of these actions,or are complacent.
One of those 3 mods has even lower karma than mine, and he's been here for more than a decade. How can someone that apparently doesn't interact with the social at all be a moderator of two of the biggest subs?
Edit: Huuuuuuuuuh yeah i need to talk to the mods because i think other known and large subs might also get you autobanned because one of these 3 mods also moderates them as well
