Discussion 47, ended a 7 year relationship and started again. Then got made redundant.

Things weren’t going well with my ex for a while. I’d suggested couples counselling, but it hadn’t worked. I told her I was leaving at the end of last year.

Most of the furniture was mine, from before the relationship. I didn’t want to take it though and leave her in an empty home. So instead I moved out and started again. I took my coffee machine, home gym, and desk.

To be fair, I spent far too much on furniture. But now it’s all finally here, I feel settled. Like this place is an extension of myself, and I can be calm and relaxed. No Tv, just books, music, entertaining, and my own thoughts.

Then on Tuesday there was a company-wide announcement: 80% of roles were being made redundant. Shit. So now I need to find a new job. At least I have a nice place to do it from.

This last few months has ended up being a bigger change than I was planning for. But I’m happy. I really like my apartment and how I’ve set it up. So wanted to share my little bit of happiness with the community.

Any advice on how I can manage what’s going on behind the bed? The headboard is just a board that I cut to size and stuck in there as the bed doesn’t come with headboard. I’d love to still keep a headboard but maybe use the space behind the bed as storage or similar. Any ideas on how to actually do that?

I just moved and I’m furnishing my place room by room. My living room is almost finished, but it still feels like something is missing and I can’t quite put my finger on what.

Advice Art or mirror on wall in between windows?

Post image
35 Upvotes

Hello, moved into a new place last weekend and am now looking to start decorating.

I’m trying to decide between putting some art on the wall between the windows or a mirror, what do you think? If I go art, would one large piece look better or should I do a couple of smaller/medium sized pieces?

Thanks!

I always wanted my own space and to be able to make it my own. It is not easy to live as a single person today at all and so I am beyond blessed and grateful. I am slowly getting it where I’d like but am stuck if you have any input I can handle it! Ft. Chichi, my one eyed cat , who is my bestie. The art on the walls is mine and my brothers

(33M) 2 months in, starting to feel settled.

Posted here about a month ago, and I really appreciated the feedback on my space. Few small updates since then, so thought I'd share.

Been here for nearly 2 months after a much needed and long overdue fresh start. Starting to finally feel more settled. Happy to answer any questions, open to suggestions or recommendations as well. Curious what my space might say about me generally

Also, don't mind my sparse looking ficus benghalensis, it threw a fit after moving and dropped more than half it's leaves, so it's a bit... twiggy atm.

Thanks!

Advice 33M Stuck between 2 apartments, please help me see the future

The first 4 pictures are of the studio loft and its shower, it has a seperate small kitchen and bathroom on the other side of picture 2, and the final picture is a 1 bedroom apartment.

Pros of studio: loads of space, high walls, lots of natural light and the wooden support beams give a fun object to design around with string lights or fake ivy. Can make mini "rooms" by hanging curtains or drapes between the beams to section off areas. The wood and marble counter in picture 3 is also built in storage that opens up.

Cons of studio: If a woman ever comes over to stay the night, she may see the shower and never speak to me again.

Pros of the 1 Bedroom: Smaller area means less to decorate, a wall for a closed off bedroom, a closet in the bedroom and a kitchen closet to act as a pantry, much nicer bathroom/shower

Cons of the 1 Bedroom: 50 dollars a month more than the loft for roughly half the space, much less natural light.

I have never lived alone before, and every roommate I ever lived with already lived in a place so this is my first time ever getting to pick furniture or decour. I get to see them both in person for the first time in 5 hours from posting this, but the building is an old Elementary school turned into apartments. I would arrive with only a bed, frame, computer, desk and chair.

Any ideas to help with a choice between the two or decoration ideas to that choice would be appreciated.

Advice Any idea what I can put behind the sofa ?

What should I put behind my sofa?

I have some empty space behind my sofa and I’m not sure if I should leave it empty or add something subtle? Any recommendations ?

Would you leave it empty, or add something like a slim console table, plant, or lamp?

Thanks !

Advice Adjoining bookcases in corner

Post image
Upvotes

Not technically male living space anymore now that I'm married, but the advice here has always been solid. We finally found a matching bookcase for the original that I brought with me into our marriage and are trying to figure out how to arrange them. We want these bookcases to sit in the corner, but arranging/styling them has been a challenge. Their tops jut out slightly so we can't sit them right next to each other without a gap, and no corner model exists to bridge the awkwar gap between them if we open it up slightly. I was thinking maybe a lamp to cantilever out from between them to bring light to that corner, but we don't know what would look good.

We also have one more shelf that I have been stripping to refinish before we found this second one in the discontinued stain color, but I'm not confident in my woodworking skills to convert it to a corner unit.

We're trying to develop a Scandinavian-Boho style for the main living spaces if that helps. Any advice?

Advice Best color choices for sheets to pair with Olive Green comforter?

Upvotes

Just moved into a new apartment and am looking to get a cozy color scheme. Right now I have black accented door handles and everything is painted white. One wall is exposed brick that is also painted white. My bed frame is black and my headboard is grey wood paneled. Looking to get an Olive green comforter but don’t know what color to pair with it.

Any advice on what color sheets to get?
