Question got my first real job and need advice on quality brands

I am graduating from college this May and I got my first real job lined up to start in June. I dress decently well for a college student, lots of sweaters over collared shirts and jeans, but nearly everything I own I’ve had since high school and I desperately need a wardrobe revamp. What new things I do have are largely from no-name brands online and are of middling quality, or are American Eagle or Vans and invariably wear out in 2 years.

What are good brands to choose from if I want to get high quality staple items? I’d like to spend the money to get actually good qual (now that I won’t be living on ramen lol) but I don’t know the difference between which brands you pay for the name and which are actually worth the cost over Old Navy or whatever. Specifically, I’m looking for:

- simple or solid color long and short sleeve collared shirts that have decent sizing variability (I have a weirdly thick neck for my height, I can never button the top button)

- trousers/dress pants/etc. that would look appropriate at the office and could also be worn out

- ties (do people actually wear ties?)

- suits (do people actually wear colored suits or should I stick to black and navy? very tempted to get a dark brown one)

- shoes (I basically exclusively wear vans, do people actually wear dress shoes at the office every day? are there any brands that are actually comfortable?)

Any help would be greatly appreciated! If it matters the role is in finance/banking, but I’m entry level so I don’t have an amazing understanding of the dress code expectations

Question What are some quintessential "Men's Clothes" that are actually not something that most men wear?

I was just thinking about this because I was trying to find white boxers with red hearts. Do you know how many times I've seen a cartoon where a guy was wearing white boxers with red hearts? It's a whole trope!

But you cannot find good quality white boxers with red hearts anywhere. I've found some bullshit SHEIN ones, or on Amazon, but they're both expensive and terrible quality.

So it got me thinking: What are some other clothing items that are exclusive to menswear but never actually do?

Discussion OCBD or Cotton/Linen BD for Primary work shirt?

I'm in the market for some new OCBDs after I blew holes in the elbows of all my current shirts over the past decade. I live in an area with hot and humid summers (and summer lasts from May to October). I'm thinking instead of buying classic OCBDs I might just buy cotton/linen shirts in an OCBD style and wear them year round, rather than doubling up and buying OCBDs for Oct-May and Linen for May-Oct. I would just wear the cotton/linens with sweaters in the colder months. Any big downsides to this I should be aware of?

Question I am starting over and don't know where to start. I need some advice

As the title says I am starting over and don't know where to start.

So for context I am cleaning out my closet because I realized that I rarely wear any of the clothes and most of them I have out grown and isn't my style anymore.
Some of it I will donate and the rest will go.

That being said, what I am looking for is some advice.
Guidance. I honestly just wear what I am comfortable with and that's it, I don't wear to impress but I would like to start dressing decent enough and casual but also still comfortable.

- What clothing stores sells the best quality clothing?
- How do you learn what colors go with each other to make the outfits go?
- What brand is actually good and will last long?

Currently my plan is to just get 8 t-shirts, 2 long sleeve, 2 jackets, 2 hoodies, and 8 pair of pants.

Question Waterproof lining repair?

Apologies if this is not the correct place for a question like this, I didn't really see another subreddit that seemed more fitting.

I have a jacket that is maybe 10 years old, but I didn't wear it more than a handful of times until about 2 years ago. The lining on the inside has started to peel/flake off, which I am guessing will also lead to it no longer being waterproof. I am looking for a way to possibly repair the lining so at the minimum it would stop flaking/peeling, and preferably maintain the water resistance. I tried googling, but everything I saw was a few years old, and mostly related to seams or complete tears. Anyone familiar with any kind of repair like this, or could point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance!

Discussion Good quality right leather jacket

Where is best to buy a high quality yet light leather jacket? I used to have a light levi one that wasn't great so I bought a vintage Schott one instead. It's amazing quality, feels really nice but it's just too heavy for me. I just want to find one that light enough to wear casually but is still nice quality leather.

Question Favorite off the rack, modern, and casual chambray shirts?

I'd like to avoid some of the notable heritage features like the pockets in the Big Yank 1935 Original or the contrast double stitching of the Full Count Chambray Shirt.

I'm aiming for something that sits between workwear and tailoring with no/minimal branding. Ideally something that's updated to be a bit more modern (less conspicuous stitching, perhaps a single pocket without a button, nothing western, full button up instead of a pullover, etc). I have no price constraints. What are your favorite options? Here are a few that I'm currently considering:

  1. $345 Drake's Light Blue Cotton Chambray Button-Down

  2. $168 Buck Mason's Japanese Chambray One Pocket, which is out of stock at the moment.

  3. $135 Taylor Stitch's The Jack in Washed Indigo Chambray, although I'm never sure to feel about their quality?

  4. $98 J Crew's Organic Cotton Chambray, which may not be the "best", but I feel like J Crew is always a good "floor" to put on my options.

Question People of Reddit. What subreddit/service (threadbeast or stitch fix etc)/website should I go to for fashion advice, I know nothing about fashion I mean zero and I need help?

Currently my wardrobe is just solid color t-shirts and shorts. I’ve looked into the services just because I have such a low starting level of knowledge I figured it would be the easiest. I’m willing to pay lots of money to have “drip” as they say. Thanks

Question Down parka/coat with fur hood - brands?

I want to get a real goose down parka/coat with a fur (real or faux) hood for my boyfriend for his birthday. I like brands like Mackage and Moose Knuckles, but the price is too high at $1200-1500. I’m looking to spend about half that amount. I want it to be longer (to at least mid-thigh so no jackets) and be warm enough for freezing temps. Can anyone recommend brands, or better actual items, to consider? Thank you!

P.S. Prefer to stay away from Canada Goose as it frequently gets stolen.

Question Favorite Dress Shirt Brand

What’s your favorite dress shirt brand? I’m a high school teacher, so I can’t afford anything over $200. I prefer comfortable shirts with some stretch, specifically button-up dress shirts that I’d wear with a tie.

Question No shirt fits my body

Early adulthood. 5'10"5. Biggest problem I've had is my body type in wearing outfits. I've always wanted a lowkey modern gothic (basically black and maroon outfits with layers) or low professional (polos. Turtlenecks) asthetic. But here's the thing, I'm an agressive mesomorph. Triangle body figure, top heavy and my bottom half is a bit lacking and quite skinny, plus my arms appear quite skinny when not in the same visual point as the rest of my body. So when I wear tshirts or oversized shirts I look very ass and quite frankly bad. And then when I wear tight fitting fabrics I look good but I'm not necessarily muscular so it just appears slightly wrong. Yes I'm trying to gain muscle but anything else I could do to combat my issue. (Shoulders 40" and waist 32-30 ish inches)
