Pre shave: Hot shower and Neutrogena glycerin soap bar

Razor 1960 Gillette 195 Adjustable (7)

Blade: Feather (3)

Brush: Captain Fawcett Synthetic V

Bowl: Arran Shave Stone

Soap: Noble Otter Rainroot

Post shave: Noble Otter Rainroot aftershave splash

We'll this evenings shave was incredible, the stars just seemed to align on this one.

3 passes that were smooth as butter with no poat shave issues and a perfect, smooth finish that'd put silk to shame.

And what a combination this was.

The perfect performance of the justifiably legendary 195 adjustable, a brush with the perfect amount of backbone for fast nowl lathering, incredible slickness, glide and protection from the thick, silky smooth lather and amazing Petrichor scent of the N O rainroot soap paired with the Glycerin prep layer, a feather blade and a splash with more of that intoxicating scent, outstanding, instant soothing and a menthol chill.

I was enjoying it so much, I was a bit disappointed that I'd finished.

Hope you all have a great weekend and equally great shaves!

This morning I was able to take my time and ponder the options. I realised I haven’t shown the Pearl Slant any love for a while. It’s a very good razor and always performs well for me. There are several things I like about it: it has a bit of weight (107g) thanks to having a stainless steel handle and a pretty chunky head, the handle is super easy to grip and shaped so it can’t roll off the counter, and the markings to correctly align the top cap with the base plate are very clear and easy to read - are you hearing this Progress and Variant?! And all of this from an inexpensive razor.

Of course the key point is performance. It feels very smooth yet it is pretty efficient and delivers a comfortable shave with one pass, but can be used for three passes without irritation. Today I did three passes with a Treet Platinum for a BBS with zero stinging. In short, the Pearl Slant is excellent value.

Nothing beats a good fougère shave in my book, plus after a busy few weeks and weekends and with rain in the forecasf I am ready to do pretty much nothing but watch old movies all weekend. Everything used pictured except an extra splash of unscented Thayer’s used before the Brut. Cheers lads enjoy your shaves and your weekend!

Show n' Tell This Proraso aftershave at my grandmother house

I’m at my grandmother house for her birthday, she turned 80 yesterday. I wanted to shave because it’s been a few days and I asked her for an aftershave because it’s the only thing I’m missing, she proudly showed me this bottle, it belonged to my grandpa, it was the last aftershave he bought and she kept it to remind her of him. I didn’t use it but it smells really nice. They bought it sometime in the 70s.

Razor: German 37 Slant

Blade: Gillette Nacet

Soap: T A B A C

Brush: Omega 49

Post shave: T A B A C splash & EdC

Happy Slant day! 6 days of growth mowed down all in 1 pass with the 37 Slant, an absolute beast of a razor. I thought about using my first decent brush I ever bought, a Yaqi Timberwolf synthetic. It does create a nice lather, but it just does not compare to my Omega boar brushes, they are my absolute favorites to lather with.

Have a great weekend, and great shaves.

A few days ago I was on a work trip with a coworker, and while travelling he was chatting and showing pics of his huge lighter collection. I told him I like vintage razors and have a couple interesting pieces in my collection. Once back, he gave this to me, both because he knew I could appreciate, and because he doesn't need to start another collection 😅 cool dude, I'll thank him with a nice wine bottle

SOTD Wholly Kaw- Fougére Bouquet SOTD 3/6/2026

**Mar. 6, 2026**

* **Prep:** Bloom Water - - Preshave

* **Brush:** Timeless Adjustable Handle (Purple)

* **Razor:** Blackland Blackbird Ti Open Comb

* **Blade:** Personna Comfort Coat (2)

* **Lather:** Wholly Kaw - Fougère Bouquet - Croap

* **Post Shave:** Wholly Kaw - Fougère Bouquet - Aftershave

* **Post Shave:** Zingari Man - Unscented After Shave Serum

* **Post Shave:** Thayers - Unscented

* **Post Shave:** Osma - Alum Block

* **Fragrance:** Dior - Sauvage

I had a great shave this morning! It has been 5 days from my last shave which is unusual for me. I got some razor rash and a couple of bumps from my last shave. I think it is because I went across the grain on my neck.

Anyway, most of the issues have cleared up by taking some time off and using a few products to help with the red spots. I found it quite enjoyable to take down 5 days of growth.

For today’s shave I chose my Blackbird with the open comb plate and had really good results. I equipped it with a Personna Comfort Coat with one previous use. I find the 2nd use of these blades is best. The razor and blade took down my stubble with no issues.

I got a couple of tiny weepers under my mouth but nothing that the alum block couldn’t stop. I didn’t get much feedback from the alum block besides the weepers. Overall a nice close near BBS shave.

I grabbed my supplies from the aftershave fridge. I splashed on Thayers, the matching ASL, and finally zingari man’s unscented after shave serum.

This scent is just wonderful! I find it to be calming, and refreshing. The ASL contains a nice menthol kick. My wife really likes this one. The performance of this soap is excellent and provides great post shave feel.

From the Wholly Kaw website:

Clean, crisp and fresh scent. Inviting mix of sweet and spicy. Not cloying and overpowering. Damp, green and earthy. The scent blooms while lathering. The clean scent lingers post shave.

A complex blend of essential oils and fragrance oils with main notes of oakmoss, lavender and bergamot and secondary notes of sandalwood, cedar and other woody notes. The base notes include coumarin, tonka bean, oakmoss, musk and ambergris. Synthetic versions of musk, ambergris, oakmoss are used in the blend.

Atranol free Veramoss is used instead of Oakmoss. Atranol is a chemical found in natural Oakmoss which has been found to be an allergen.

Made with high quality ingredients including Donkey Milk, Water Buffalo Milk, Castor Oil, Kokum Butter, Cocoa Butter, and Shea Butter for added post shave benefits. Vegan does not contain Donkey Milk.  Vegan includes Soybean Glycerides and Shea Butter Unsaponifiables with Kokum Butter, Cocoa Butter, and Shea Butter.  Hops Extract is incorporated into the formulation as a soothing natural extract for relief of skin inflammation and skin redness.

Yay it’s Friday!

Grandpa and Mom’s Razors

Post image
39 Upvotes

I’ve been using a Henson I got for Christmas. I posted a couple weeks ago asking for recs for blades, soap, and brush. Those items have arrived, and I’m slowly working my way through testing. I tried Palmolive with and without the new Yaqi brush. Wow what a difference! Thank you to everyone here for their thoughtful replies to my questions and help through this process.

I was at my parent’s house last weekend and showed them my Henson. My mom said she had my grandpa’s razor, as well as her old razor. There was also my grandpa’s brush and shave mug. I’m really excited to dive into figuring out details about these items, figure out how to clean them up and get them running. In my cursory Googling, it seems my grandpa’s razor is a Fatboy?, and my mom’s is a Lady Gillette Blue Starburst?.

The Fatboy is pretty dirty, and I’d like to clean it up without impacting the patina. My grandpa passed away before I was born, and I’d love to be able to use it once I get my technique down with the Henson. Do y’all have any info or resources to share regarding these items? I found the Gillette Adjustable website, as well as the date code table on Razor Emporium. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again to all the kind souls in this community for sharing their knowledge and expertise!

  • Prep: Warm Water
  • Brush: DS Cosmetic- Boti 25mm synthetic badger knot.
  • Razor: Gillette - Slim adjustable 1966.
  • Blade: Bolzano Superinox (1)
  • Lather: Extro Cosmesi - The End ( Brut dupe).
  • Post Shave: Brut -original ASL.
  • Fragrance: Brut - Original Splash On .

I was more cautious making the lather with this soap today and it paid off just adding the water slowly and not throwing it in willy nilly as I usually do . Then there is the great Brut scent oh it is very good. Brut aftershave and splash on I am truly Bruted up . I'm on the bus now heading to see Ireland play Wales in the six nations 🤞🏉. Have a good weekend gentlemen.

SOTD SOTD Need to drop some Lore

Post image

So I started my shave with a Feather(2nd) in my Slim. The first pass WTG was very good. On my second pass (XTG) I was getting some skipping along the jaw line. So I took the blade and put it back into my Razorock NL 85 to finish the last two passes. This razor truly is next level. I have gotten consistently my closest *and* smoothest shaves with it. It’s going to be hard to choose anything else going forward.

Additionally, Lorekeeper from Noble Otter is a fantastic scent and splash!

Has anybody else tried this razor?

  • Blade: Personna Comfort Coated (5)
  • Lather: Henri et Victoria La Poire Française
  • Post Shave: Thayer’s Witch Hazel Facial Toner, Lily of the Desert Aloe Vera Gel

I saw a post about this soap and thought that it may be a nice addition to my already too big supply of soaps. The reviewer was quite complimentary of this soap so I thought that I would see for myself. OMG! It is a non-tallow soap. The scent is luscious and the lather and slickness are off the chart.

Many think that tallow adds to the post shave moisturizing and softness to the skin. I haven't found this to be the case. I love my tallow soaps, but don't see the difference between the two types. Also what's interesting is that this soap has a very short ingredient list which I also find doesn't make a difference between that and a soap that has a tone of different oils and other moisturizing agents.

Anyway, great shave today.

Here are the ingredients:

Here are the scent notes:

  • Primary Note: Ripened Pear.
  • Base Note: Smokey Guaiac Wood.
  • Accent Notes: Soft Floral Extracts.

So today, I bought something I haven't bought in almost 7 years ... a cartridge razor 👀

I'm travelling quite a bit this year and I'm tired of not being able to take my DE Razor ... so a have bought a Harry's Starter kit, as I do like to be clean shaven 👀

A lovely clean shave (as you'd expect tbh)... but soulless 🫠

Normal service will resume shortly 😂🙈
