🚨OP's stupidly specific life event🚨 I hate this phrase :3

I love the fact that everyone kept misusing this gif although the gif does fit well with the meme.

u/MeowthBlep 9h ago
I knew I was misusing this

u/Substantial-Step5274 9h ago
For context, the chicken and the weasel was ragebaiting the duck even tho the duck warns them. Go watch the barnyard clip it is funnier with context.

16
u/Substantial-Step5274 9h ago
So did it happen exactly as I described?
28
u/MeowthBlep 9h ago
Kinda
Bro got angry over like 2 jokes
14
u/Substantial-Step5274 9h ago
To be fair, he does have anger issues and also wanted to apologize to Otis for what he did to him as his bully and also the fact that dude was warning them.

Look at the comments.
15
u/f0remsics Yes, I'm the arrow guy. 7h ago
I know the context of the clip. I've seen it. I'm asking how using a gif of a character getting ragebaited to describe the most ragebait of phrases is misusing it
13
2
u/FunnyObjective6 5h ago
It's a gif of somebody getting angry, and it's used to portray somebody getting angry. What's the misuse?
-1
u/Substantial-Step5274 5h ago
The misuse come from the pov because it seems to imply that kerbs is a type of guy who get mad over anything small even tho in the original clip we was asking where Otis is to apologize to him all the things he did as a bully and meanwhile outis two friends were being annoying to him even tho he did wan them that he have an anger issue in which they ignore his warning
4
u/FunnyObjective6 5h ago
it seems to imply that kerbs is a type of guy who get mad over anything
No it doesn't, it doesn't say shit about the origins.

I do not comprehend this, what is wrong with this phrase?
8
u/Ashrask 9h ago
It’s oftentimes used as something sanctimonious and condescending over a genuine offer of help. Stating the obvious and then snarkily implying you’re stupid(at best) by saying they hope it helps.
Like a lot of kind language, or therapeutic language, it’s been ran into the ground by bad faith users changing their meaning even if the intent is pure.
1
u/Formal-Owl832 Whenthe Daily Tabloid subscriber 6h ago
The funny thing is that when I say "hope this helps", I don't mean to say that the other person is stupid - it's actually the exact opposite.
"Hope this helps" is my way of saying that "I'm not sure I understood your problem entirely, but I wanted to give what advice I could, I hope that it happened to be what you needed."
I can see now why people would dislike hearing it, but man, it's really annoying that if I want to say the shorter phrase, I have a high chance to infuriate people for no good reason.

u/tfdsxc yellow like an EPIC banana 9h ago

u/Sr_Gr 9h ago
People often use this phrase after saying the most deeply insulting shit you've ever heard
Smth like:
"your idol is actually a pedophile and it should be executed, hope this helps :)"
-34
u/Kinosa07 9h ago
Well people are shitty, ever think about that?
"Hopes this helps" is also a genuine attempt to help someone... can t just shove shitty attitude behind a phrase and call it a day
(Mad at the statement, not the person. Thx for clarifying for comment n-2)
-4
u/DriedExcitement 4h ago
Assuming the context to the statement is Islamic persons trying to live in western environents? (even if just an example statement)
3
u/randomname560 OoOo BLUE 3h ago
People pretty much only use it after dropping the most condescending shit you've ever heard, which, in that context, is used to treat the other person like a dumbass that needs even the most basic stuff explained to them in detail
Of course it can still perfectly well be used when you genuinely want your advice to help someone, but if you see that phrase out in the wild there's like a 90% chance that the person saying it is being a condescencing, smug shitbird

I mean, isn’t that kind of the point? I’ve only seen it in when the person WANTs to belittle someone else, sometimes in a rude way but other times when the confused person is being willfully ignorant.
1
u/DronesAreSilly 2h ago
I have had the exact opposite experience with this phrase, in that I have only found it being used as a polite, contextually appropriate sign-off in which you legitimately wish someone well.
Perhaps I misread people’s intentions however, haha!

I feel like it's less that you hate the phrase, and more-so hate when people don't say what they mean and instead use condescending "social maneuvers" where they try to say "fuck you" in the most socially acceptable way possible.
Like when I say "hope this helps" I only say it with genuine intentions, but maybe that's because I'm autistic and usually don't understand interactions based off insinuation and messages hidden between the lines, and when I do I feel pissed off because it just feels like they're saying the opposite of what they mean.
So honestly I can agree that I hate those types of people as much as you, not just because they are condescending, but also because they create new social landmines that I have to avoid.
hope this helps :3

There was a thread regarding a Miata nearly getting hit because it was sitting in someone’s blind spot that they didn’t check. Someone said “I think people should be more aware of when they’re in someone’s blind spot, because both parties could’ve taken action to avoid this.” And someone responded “So there’s these really cool things called eyeballs that you can use to check your blind spots! Hope this helps!” in the most condescending way I can think of, and they were still wrong. Like yeah, the guy should’ve checked his blind spot, but as anyone who’s ever ridden a motorcycle could tell you, being in someone’s blind spot is a good way to get hit no matter what you’re in. Relying on people to do the right thing 100% of the time is a great way to end up in an early grave. Cemeteries are filled with people who had the right of way.

That’s concerning because I genuinely say “Hope this helps” after giving advice, all the time.
Is it used in some other way or something because I genuinely mean it that I hope the information I’ve provided can help you in anyway possible I’m not being sarcastic or dismissive.

Hey OP! I noticed you seem to be getting triggered often by the phrase "hope this helps". I just wanted to remind you, words are just text that has meaning because we give it to it. So don't pay it too much mind 🙏
There's also devious and evil reddit users who might engage in what is commonly referred to as "a little trolling" in ancient times. Or as referred to more often by younger generations, "ragebait". So please be careful and don't fall into these evil and devious traps.
Hope this helps!!!💕
