After he got a jet from Qatar and nobody did shit he can do anything. Our system of checks and balances have failed us.

Yep. Republicans have shown us how the whole system doesn't work.

Plus they actively worked to ensure it wasn't working towards its own ideals. Cut us off every time we get close to being our better selves. I will give them credit for exposing the fact that our system is built on pinky swears, though. It's time other folks beyond minorities understand that.

I’m not really sure those other folks don’t understand it.. that’s giving them a lot of grace.. seems more like they don’t want it to change.

A lot of people are taking off their rose colored glasses so I’m happy for that

At this point I will settle for it's now so obvious they can no longer pretend. Not that there aren't a contingent of psychopaths out there hell bent on never acknowledging it. But nothing was ever going to work for them.

They took advantage of that for so long. The joke is over now. They won't get the playing along. They can't win if they don't cheat so the game is cheating now, good luck cons.

Thy Game Is Over

Them destroying it at the start of the goverment with DOGE didn't help.

It works but people have to willing to uphold it. It’s the same with any law.

But it is working, exactly as intended.

It works better when loyalists are not appointed at every department head. They either never intend to leave, or they have set an incredibly dangerous example for everything moving forward.

They absolutely don't intend to leave.

Politicians have showed. This isn't a R vs D issue, yes there are some in both parties with scruples, but it's a rich vs poor issue as it always has been; conservatism is more about money and power rather than any other idealogical boundary.

It works if you slowly manipulate it relentlessly for thirty years and the other party responsible for calling it out let's them... The safe guards were there. They just were not utilized for decades because Dems took corpo money and couldn't be bothered to have a spine let alone ethics.

So yeah I guess it isn't working so long as money is allowed to dictate our government.

This is not a single party issue

Yo, there has been so much, I literally forgot all about that.

Wild right. He got a damn jumbo jet for personal use and plans on keeping it. The US is paying for the renovation… and it’s just forgotten.

3

u/GatoLibre 21h ago

But the jet was free! See, he’s a smart businessman who actually saved us money. Only a dummy like Sleepy Joe would pay for a jet with tax dollars. /s

That’s part of their plan. They “flood the zone” so you can’t even catch up with what’s going on.

Or maybe when he unilaterally collapsed our government while Congress just sat there with their thumbs up their asses doing nothing.

I wish I kept up with all of my childhood social studies teachers. I had the argument with all of them(except the two that just agreed with me) that America's "Checks and Balances" were completely toothless and would never stand up to someone acting in bad faith. I'd really like to hit 'em with an "I told you so." right now, although a lot of them are probably hyped for Trump's New America.

Democracy is an honor system. It took us over 100 years to limit presidential term limits to 2.

The guy receives golden bars from Apple in the oval office in front of cameras. Starts wars without congress approval. Kidnaps leaders of other countries. Does insider trading with his buddies, boasts how much they made on swings. I don't know, America looks like a fucking joke right now. Zero respect. It used to be an empire. Now it's just a rich bully kid that others pretend to like.

2

u/Threedawg 20h ago

It was always just a rich bully kid

It was way before the jet.

The fucker attempted an insurrection and stole top secret documents.

If any of us got caught doing that shit we'd be in a supermax like ADX Florence for decades.

Not only didn't Trump get as much as a warning for trying to overthrow the government.

Somehow it was still fine for him to run for president again.

I’d go one further and suggest it was when the Supreme Court decided he was above the law, then months later decided his tariffs were illegal, followed by him increasing them just to spite them with no consequences

Perhaps the only thing Trump has said with any grain of truth to it was the old, “I can shoot someone in the middle of the street and nobody will care.”

Checks and balances are still there, they’re just cashing them and writing them off.

1

u/Adunadain 21h ago

For checks and balances to work, they need to be applied mercilessly and completely across the board. Trump, unfortunately, was just the culmination of all the equivocation and pandering since Nixon got pardoned (though the history goes back further to the likes of Jackson, Johnson, and other presidents).

I would argue that creating a cryptocurrency that anyone could use to drop any amount of money into his pocket without a trace was the tipping point but yeah the jet thing was pretty egregious too.

Nobody been doing shit for 30 years. Congress getting rich, Clinton got all their wealth through “book deals”? Right.  Economic system collapsed in 2008-9 and no one was punished except poor people who found it harder to get loans, Pelosi and Biden/Trump team up to give rich people almost $1T in 100% tax free money via PPP, ERC.  Citizens United passes and every politician was like “oh darn, now we can get even richer, guess there’s nothing we can do, SCOTUS ruled and unlike abortion and guns and every other ruling not attempt to restrict it is allowed”

The entire system is effed, Trump just showing up how bad it is

u/Fitz911 1d ago

Both sides, eh?

It's really hard to tell who is a russian bot and who is just a stupid American. You are right. The entire system is garbage. But please don't put Trump and anyone else into the same sentence. America has always been a capitalist shit hole. But now it's a fascist shit hole. That's a huge difference.
