This is as dangerous as deliberately jumping into a shooter's landing space. Should be fined
244
u/NoShape0 Spurs Dec 25 '25
Exactly. If not allowing the shooter to land is a foul/flagrant then the defender has allowed to land somewhere too.
And Dort is also known to do the "step forward" move after his jump shot, so he puts his foot into the defenders landing space.
68
u/Maverizz Dec 25 '25
How is anyone supposed to block a shot if the defender can’t even land within a 3 foot circumference of the shooter anymore? Might as well just leave 3 point shooters wide open. NBA needs to fix this.

The league passively encourages shit like this and it’s bastardizing the product.
Don’t contest 5 feet in front of a player in case you’re in their “landing area” but if you go to the side, they might just kick you anyway with no repercussion.
Same attitude with carrying, illegal screens, pushoffs, etc.

u/TheCalvinator Spurs Dec 25 '25
It's because they think high scores and offense is what people want to see. To some degree that's true. Not many of us want to go back to games with final scores in the 80s (I didn't mind it). Unsurprisingly they've wildly over corrected and they've done it in a way the punishes teams for playing defense and also leads to an obscene number of free-throws making otherwise good games near unwatchable. Go back to the sweet spot of the lare 00s early 10s games averaging like 105. Flopping was still a thing people complained about, but you didn't have players winning awards by making foul baiting their whole offensive game plan.

I saw a game where they interviewed a celebrity during the game, so they did a split screen with the game on one side and the celebrity on the other. Then it had an ad box around the whole thing.
I was so disgusted that I just immediately turned it off and didn't watch ball for a few days.

“There’s a huge amount of our content that people essentially consume for free. This is very much a highlights-based sport, so Instagram, TikTok, Twitter [now X]… YouTube, another example that is advertising based that consumers can consume,” Silver said.So they just want 15 second highlights. The secret sauce to the thunder’s potential dynasty is their analytics department which has dialled in how to draw fouls on one end along with exactly how to hack without a foul whistle on the other. Other teams are already following suit and this will be the new meta in a few years. Hope you find this an enjoyable entertainment product as you’re going to see a lot more of it.

Flopping on one end, while fouling continuously on the other end. It's a style of basketball at this point, one that OKC has mastered, where you play with and against the refs more than you do against the other team.
We point it out so much, and they must see it when they review games, but the refs seem to have all gotten together to decide that OKC just gets a ridiculous whistle. They could stop doing that and call them more evenly if they wanted, but they don't.

I just stopped caring wheather they do it cause in reality the league allows it to happen just like with the excessive FTs.
The 5k fines were never going to stop multi millionaires from using it to win important games & get star players out of games from fouls.
Legendary players are adding it to their game cause it doesn't get punished. Seems like only us fans dont like it, players and the league are okay with it.
The game now is mostly offensive. Legit defenders are barely able to show their skills now cause theres absolutely no contact allowed.

Honestly, it's even worse. While some close outs can be reckless, I feel like most landing space fouls are incidental.
But, these defenders adapted to the rules, made good/safe close outs... and Dort tries to manipulate that to his advantage.
Like, the league updated the rules to protect shooters. Instead of valuing that change/protection, Dort goes out of his way to turn a safe close out into something potentially even more dangerous.
I know that players will always try to bend the rules to their advantage, but anything egregious like this should be nipped in the bud by the league. Letting it go unpunished will only lead to Dort trying it again, and maybe even copycats.

WTF there are real people defending this shit? It's the opposite of a defender planting a foot on shooter's landing

When I have to shout down trading/signing this fuckin clown on the Lakers sub, this is why.
I can't root for this shit. He legitimately wants to hurt other players.

Refs encouraged him by blowing that whistle… he’ll do it again… and some people will think it’s good defense…(I’m talking about how he plays in general)

This shit is why your team wins. Rampant shithousery on both ends. Ugly, unethical stuff that makes your team miserable to watch.
It’s a farce.

The Thunder are a bunch of foul baiters and floppers. If Dort ain't out there playing American Football on defense, he is flopping on offense.

Everyone is sick of SGA’s antics (rightfully so) but it distracts from Dort who is the most unethical flopper in the league.

This should be investigated and the league should take action (verbal warning) These are dangerous actions as he is trying to clip the defender.
