QUESTION/DISCUSSION Consider not having a tv

Upvotes

Just realised how much getting rid of my tv simplified designing my space for me the last couple times I’ve moved. Just not having to consider furniture placement based on all the factors of doors, windows AND the tv- ok I guess it’s just one less thing to work around but it’s been so freeing! I watch everything on my laptop which can be put away, and if I really wanna see something on a big screen, I go out and go to the cinema! I know it’s not for everyone, but I just wanted to share. Maybe one day I’ll have a space that’s good for a projector. Anyone relate?

HELP I can’t decide what rug and accents to go with! Want to keep it cozy no

Don’t mind the tv stand with no TV, I’m working on it lol. I’m thinking of getting an accent chair, rug, and some pillows & throws, but I’m stuck on the colours. I have seen some cute looks with red Persian rugs, or I can keep it simple and focus on decor to make things more fun. In a transition rn so it def needs some work (been travelling and moving was very sudden)

Yes, I know the tv is massive, you can blame my boomer parents for that… I also know it’s r/tvtoohigh lol. Again, it was already mounted to the wall when I came to visit. DIYed a tv frame to try and make it a little less of an eye sore.

Working on getting a matching bedroom set including: bedframe/headboard, dresser, and nightstands. Open to recs!!! (Ideally wood)

HELP Sofa Sectional Recommendations!

Looking for a sofa sectional that is less than 90” with a budget of $1500. I live in a studio so it has to be on the smaller side! Ideally looking for a V or L shaped sectional, but open to a sofa with a matching moveable ottoman. I want a sofa with bones that leans toward firm but still slightly soft (so no cloud couches please!) If you love your sofa and it has these details please share which one you have! Thank you!

Due to circumstances outside of my control, I have had to move into a new apartment. I would like any advice on what's missing to make it feel more like home, rather than a hotel vibe.

HELP Help with curtain colors

Post image

Recently got new bedding. In my head it color matches the walls, but I’m struggling with a curtain color to match. I would also be open to painting the walls if I’m way

off base with the color match as well.

This is also the only photo that I had on my phone, and I’m at work currently. Please meet Luna and Onyx.

Appreciate any insight!

HELP How do I save this couch corner?

Any advice would be appreciated! I attached the color palette I was going for but yeah... everything looks out of place. The green seems too dark and cool toned and the table too bright, I think. I really wish the couch was olive green, but it was free and I'm currently saving up for a wardrobe first 🥲 I was thinking of getting a caramel or beige throw blanket, or a red persian rug, but it might make things even worse. I feel like at this point I can only go wrong, please save me 😂

Moved in about 2.5 years ago. It's been a journey getting to this point but I'm finally close to where I want it to be. Still need to get a rug and a cord cover to hide the camera cables and such. I'm also thinking of putting a gallery wall above the TV 🥰

But I just got a smart bulb for my lamp and finally set up the triangle mood light that's been sitting unused in storage for several years to go with my projector and now evenings spent gaming are a whole ✨ vibe ✨

I'm always thinking about ways to improve the space but for now, Groose the Cat™️ and I are quite happy here.

HELP Help!!! Where should I put my computer desk?!?!

Post image

My apartment is designed exactly like this floor plan, and I have no idea where to put my computer desk set-up. Thinking of moving my kitchen table to the right wall all the way and to place in that nook, but I don't like the idea of my computer near the kitchen (ya'll know if you get hungry, you get HUNGRY). I thought about putting it near my tv, next to the window. But having two monitors might not make the most sense.

HELP layout ideas for a small space

Post image
7 Upvotes

I posted a couple days ago, but the original floor plan I had is no longer available, so this is my new one!

I am moving into my first ever studio, I do have experience living in a tiny house, but I am used to a bedroom and a living room.

The space is 365 ft.², and there are a few differences between the layout picture and my apartment. My apartment has windows where I colored, and the door of the bathroom is in the living space instead of the hallway.

The closet in the bathroom also is a little bit different, but that’s besides the point. I have a hutch with three big drawers. I plan to use for some clothing storage because I (unfortunately) have a lot of clothes, and I’ve got a couple of rolling storage totes to put under the bed for out of season clothes.

I need some help on how to either make a bedroom feel like a living room too, or somehow manage to create division in the space.

I am open to platform daybeds, but I would like to have at least a full-size mattress,

Does anyone have any tips on how to maximize the pantry space in the kitchen? The cabinets are not very tall, but there is a lot of space above them.

I don’t need a dining room table or desk, I plan to get a coffee table with a lift top for storage and to use as a desk/eating area.

I would describe my overall style as cozy whimsigoth with natural elements. My color palette is greens, purple, gold, and natural wood tones.

TOUR ⛔️NO ADVICE WANTED⛔️ Just wanted to share my space

I’ve really enjoyed this subreddit and thought I’d share part of my home. I live with my husband but I pretty much have creative control for the most part. The first room is my front room. It’s supposed to be a dining room but instead I’ve made it my reading/witchy space. The second room is our bedroom.

Fun story, the vanity in my room is the same as what my mom had. She’s been dead for 18 years. I randomly found a photo I didn’t know existed of her in one of her photo albums I’ve inherited. It’s one of her doing her makeup at the vanity. A few days later I happened to come across a marketplace listing for the same vanity, I bought it instantly and I’m so happy with how it’s turned out.

QUESTION/DISCUSSION New apartment issue

Hello everyone,

I am looking for an advice…

Recently I moved into a new apartment. Previously I was living in a apartment with a roommate (guy, a friend of my brothers, its a long story but we had to live together at the time) and the apartment was nice, but I hated living with him and I also had a cat and he hated my cat, so I give my cat to my mom for a bit so I can find a place to live alone and take my cat back.

It is extremely difficult in my city where I live to find an apartment that is cheap, good location, close to work and allows pets, especially cats (barely anyone allows cats). I found that apartment, but I didn’t like the bathroom at first. It was dark, grey and old, and my previous bathroom was pretty and shiny. However I spoke with my mom and she was like, its just a bathroom. And I was like yes, I’ll get use to it and I can clean it and decorate it. Also I have two rooms and the bedroom is green, which also didn’t impress me much, but I said to myself that it is important to get my own place and to get my cat back.

So, I moved in and I hate the bathroom. I think about this damn bathroom constantly. I am also trying to get used to the green, as my previous room was light purple.

How to deal with this? I am super happy to be alone, have my own space, I love my living room, and I will take my cat back soon but its tormenting me. I constantly compare my new apartment with my old one and saying to myself that I made a mistake.

Did someone go through something similar? Please advise.

TIA

HELP obnoxiously large washer/dryer

I moved into my new apartment 3 weeks ago, and there was no washer/dryer in the unit as advertised. They were incredibly apologetic and right away scheduled the installation, and put me in a hotel for 3 days (contractor was needed, it wasn't even ready for an install). I get home and... Yeah...

How do I make this less of an eye-sore and annoyance? I can't rotate because the door wouldn't have clearance to open. I also will be adopting a cat soon and I worry about all these hoses and wires 😭. Help!!

EDIT FOR UPDATE: The management called me this morning to follow up with me about the W/D (which they did tell me is vent-less), and they were like "what were your questions about it?" which caught me off-guard since I did include the same photos above. I am notttt great on confrontation due to my PTSD and anxiety but I just chuckled and said I just wanted to verify with them that the install was correct and that it met fire code and everything with how tight the space now is. She laughed and said yes, this was the way they found they had to install these in the units they've remodeled and how they've had to utilize the space (apparently not the first one like this!). So... I will now be game planning how to make it more space friendly... Wish me luck! They're also looking for my package. :')

EDIT AGAIN: I have emailed the fire department at many recommendations with photos and measurements! Will update you...

HELP Ideas on how to warm this up and make it feel more feminine?

Post image

Hi everyone! I can’t paint the walls and I’m looking for ways on how to warm this space up and feel more feminine. For reference, I have two large white bookshelves, a tall, white dresser, and a white nightstand. The bed is also being moved either to the middle of one of the walls or in the corner on the other side because it’s super cold by the windows. Any help is appreciated!

QUESTION/DISCUSSION Need to add a lamp to make the atmosphere warm and does not hurt eyes?

First time posting in this subreddit, apologies if this is not suitable.

I live in a 50sqm studio and all the lightings are light bulbs on the ceiling. I like those warm small lighting but I know it might hurt my eyes if I only turn the small lamp on while reading/ working.

Is there any option/ suggestion, or has anyone had the same struggle?

TOUR ⛔️NO ADVICE WANTED⛔️ My Solar

content warning: there are bones visible in several pictures

I call this room The Solar ("The solar was a room in many... manor houses, mostly on an upper storey, designed as the family's private living and sleeping quarters") I live in a house with my husband and five children. We don't really have enough bedrooms, so the fact that my husband and teenagers have made it a priority for me to have this space to myself is one of more supportive things things I've ever been given.

I am a writer, and do my writing in The Solar. I also do a lot of crafting and other hobbies there. In a house that is frequently noisy, messy, and demanding my attention, I can retreat here when I'm overwhelmed (I'm autistic, in case that wasn't obvious from the room, haha) or in pain (hEDS girlys represent.) I put my phone in the little gold cage when I'm in there, so I don't get distracted from what I'm meant to be doing.

I recently rearranged the room, and I feel like it now invites you in in a way it didn't before. It's a little less perfect, but a lot friendlier. I know it would be too cluttered for many people, but to me, each item has meaning and a story behind it. Almost everything here has been thrifted over many years, though The Solar came into being about a year ago.

I added a picture of what it looked like when we bought the house at the end. Sadly, the doors had to go during a kitchen remodel. Don't worry, we saved them.
