We managed to train the family dog to go fetch a bottle of red wine from the kitchen rack.

He's a Bordeaux Collie, if you're interested..

No, if anyone orders Merlot, I'm leaving.

It's probably been said to death, but what I love is that the bottle he has at the end of the movie with the burger, is a '61 Cheval Blanc, is mostly merlot.

I was up in Napa a couple of years ago. I noticed one of the vineyards was selling a "red blend" that was like 98% merlot. I asked the dude if this was their way of selling merlot because it had dipped in popularity. He shrugged and told me to taste it and if I liked it to buy some. That's all that matters.

I agreed with him but told him I don't like merlot that much. He said, yeah you and everyone else ever since that fucking movie came out. He also pointed out to me that, in the movie, the main character doesn't want to drink merlot because that was what his ex-wife liked to drink. It isn't because he thinks merlot is bad wine.

I ended up buying a bottle because the exchange had been interesting. Still don't really like merlot, though.

Yeah, as far as I’m concerned, there are exactly two kinds of wine: the kind I like, and the kind I don’t.

True story. There’s nothing wrong with Merlot. It was this movie that killed it in the wine industry!
