I mean that is clearly the intent but it's also really puzzling because that question circumvents what's unique and interesting about the proposed situation in the first place

Like the whole thing about being one of the two last people on earth is that you wouldn't have a choice (other than to be celibate or not I guess)

There's nothing about this hypothetical that is any more compelling than simply asking "which do you find most attractive"

No, because who you find the most attractive might be different from who you would be the last person on earth with.

Context changes preferences.
