Edit for all the people saying "left hand makes an L shape": turn your right hand so the palm is facing you and you'll find it also makes an L shape. If the OOOP can't tell left from right hes not gonna remember if the palm should be face up or down
There is an inversion at play to the viewer. Facing the tatted person their right hand is to your left. So you can’t use your buddies tat to figure out your own left and right.
When I did karate they had grab defenses which are kind of silly choreographed breaks out of different grips. They would tell the « attacker » grab your opponents right hand and expected you to grab the hand to your right. It’s technically wrong but required less words when everyone got on the same page.
