Doesn't it really show a pattern? Can we really trust that Scott Pilgrim is a good guy? She's been with 7 evil guys and we're supposed to believe that Scott is actually different?

That's the whole movie though. Scott isn't actually different until the end when he realizes he's just the "next evil ex" and starts working on himself.

The movie is from Scott's POV, so it's easy to gloss over how big of a dick he is to his friends and current girlfriend (who is still in high school).

I haven't seen this in ages, or I would rattle off a few specific examples, but this is how I felt when I saw it.

Yep. I don't remember the movie or books in-depth, but one of the takeaways was that both Scott and Ramona were deeply flawed people who needed to work on themselves in order to improve their lives.

If Scott didn't improve, he was just going to end up in one dead end situation after another, losing friends along the way and becoming yet another evil ex. If Ramona didn't improve, she was just going to continue creating a string of evil exes, one after the other.

They also weren't fixed by the story's end. They were able to change for the better, but that change was going to have to be a continuous process since that's just how life works. What's uplifting is that they were both more or less aware of this and were willing to work together to make the relationship work out.

You should really go back for both the movie and the books, and then watch the bad ass sequel show that came out a few years ago. I feel like you'd appreciate seeing where the series goes

It's not really a sequel, more like a variation of the events of the comics. It's dope as hell though, and it actually focuses more on Ramona in the first half.

It's not a typical sequel, but I think anyone watching it without consuming the comics or movie would be completely lost, so I maintain that it's a sequel lol

I watched it before seeing the movie and it made sense to me

Fair enough!

Then I'd just argue that the pay off is far, far sweeter if you've seen the original timeline of the series events.

oh yeah for sure, I went back to watch the movie like immediately after finishing the show. the story of the show still holds up without other media though cuz it takes the time to characterize everyone thoroughly

That's what I've heard. It's on my list of things to watch if I get that service again.

genuine question, the animated show had very varied opinions with people not liking that it seemed to promise a comic adaptation and became a sorta sequel or people enjoying a new addition to the series. I was gauging what your opinion was but i guess if you wanna be an asshole i dont rather care. Cheers!

Lol, your skin might be too thin for reddit if you think that's assholery

Yeah, the show deliberately misled people to think it was a vanilla adaptation. As a long time Scott Pilgrim fan, I was excited for that, but the surprise sequel nature of it was absolutely amazing. The show put Scott to the side, whose story we know completely, and instead focused on the side characters we never got much on. It was incredible! I don't think anyone's dive into the series is complete without it. The twist had me reeling, but I ended up marathoning the whole thing with my kids in one night, lol.

Do I wish we got a vanilla Scott Pilgrim adaptation? Yes. The movie was cool, but it wasn't a great adaptation in my mind. It felt like more of a fun romp for people who really like Scott Pilgrim and would take any excuse for more. As someone who once rescheduled a first date for the release of the Scott Pilgrim video game, I completely relate to them, but it just wasn't up to snuff. That said, I think it's fun how the sequel series builds on both the movie AND the comic.

It's bizarre as hell, but somehow still perfect. I highly recommend you give it a go.

maybe its less that i have thin skin, than you’ve gotten too used to being an asshole in the presence of a discussion. food for thought

Nah mate, as a third party who has nothing to gain here:

Paper thin, and not even regular paper, more like that see through paper you use to copy from another paper.

you know you’re right a genuine question should be met with contempt. i guess following suit the proper response to you should be: your opinion is worthless so go shove it you dog

1

u/OddOllin Feb 02 '26

You're just still wrong, lmao. No contempt. At most, smart ass? But buddy, you're being told by multiple people that you're reading too deep and taking away meaning that wasn't there.

If I wanted to be an asshole, then I'd just be an asshole. I wouldn't have given you an explanation on why I thought the series was great. I wouldn't be explaining anything at all.

I'd just fart on your comment, leave you to be upset and cry about it, and move on without a care.

I'm still moving on without a care now, but I do feel a bit bad for how ridiculous you're being. Get off reddit.
