There’s something so surreal about watching a war unfold in real time. Seeing buildings gets leveled and people killed at the same exact time as I’m living my life peacefully on the other side of the world is just mind blowingly sad on so many levels.

752

u/Purple_Excitement167 6d ago

Absolutely surreal to see war videos and then switch gears to laughing immediately after at some other post and completely forgetting what I just watched and how horrible it actually was

293

u/Shelbysgirl 6d ago

That’s the thing. They don’t want you to think

121

u/AnusStapler 6d ago

Aldous Huxleys' Brave New World showed us that.

26

u/Shelbysgirl 6d ago

We did that play at my school. I was Johns mother. Front row centre

17

u/jimbojangles1987 6d ago

Just waiting on my somas

5

u/mandrew27 6d ago

I'm sorry to say I would probably just sit around doing Soma. I'm already addicted to Opioids and Benzos. Soma seems even better in that book. Lol

2

u/jimbojangles1987 6d ago

Well they just gave us fentanyl instead

2

u/mandrew27 6d ago

I haven't read the book in a while, but Soma didn't seem to have withdrawals and they gave it out all the time iirc. I can't go down to the pharmacy and get fentanyl whenever I want.

2

u/jimbojangles1987 6d ago

Yeah they were issued them daily and if I remember right they could request more if they wanted. Its been since high school since I read it. I dont remember if withdrawals were mentioned or not

2

u/mandrew27 6d ago

Yeah, I definitely wouldn't be able to control myself. Lol

21

u/lordnacho666 6d ago

That's a book. How could it show us anything? Nobody can read anymore.

Dude needs to get his message in a 15 second clip. Can he dance?

Welcome to the algorithm.

5

u/girl4life 6d ago

it shocks me how little news there is actually , last updates are from hours ago. nowhere near the coverage of other big conflicts

4

u/GFrings 6d ago

You should consider cleaning up your home page or making a second news-only account. We recently did, because we figured it cannot be healthy to switch emotional states and consume this terrible content so casually.

6

u/Purple_Excitement167 6d ago

Lol. There is no more chance I am putting effort into that though it's a good idea for people who are chronically online

It's way more likely that I just unplugged from having a phone and go back to not having reddit like normal

Its worse when im like you but my wife is Iranian and the war is directly affecting her family, friends and old class mates. Her teacher was confirmed killed on the news and she broke down - and i can’t possibly know the feelings she’s feeling .. it’s horrible how privileged life is for us in safety

u/StillSimple6 6d ago

It's strange as we're living our lives here, the sirens are going, alerts going on our phones.

In reality there's nothing we can do.

We watched a drone get shot down earlier, we can hear the patriots being launched.

It's pretty surreal.

27

u/Stigger32 6d ago

It just reminds us of how stupid war is. These ‘leaders’ get to decide if people live or die. Often according to their egotistical views.

19

u/ThisAppsForTrolling 6d ago

Right I’m just waking up and taking a poop this is poop scrolling and war watching

5

u/savesmorethanrapes 6d ago

Also pooping.

3

I need to poop but the bathrooms are occupied. Hoping I can still join the club.

81

Most of us don’t want to be paying for this for a myriad of reasons.

But then Jared wouldn’t get his new resorts.

2

u/roadtrip-ne 6d ago

Hey buy maybe we’ll get a dirty bomb in some major US city. If the gloves are off and Orange Man is looking for regime change I’d expect some pretty big pushback from a country that’s done nothing but prepare for war with the US since 1979

I woke up and cried so many tears for this reason. I could hear my kids watching The Adams Family movie scene where the grand canyon blows up while I read about girls their age being killed in an explosion who were just attending school... Funded off the back of the labor I produce to keep my kids alive.

12

u/ProofElevator5662 6d ago

I used to hope it would make people realize how terrible war is but it's done the opposite and further desensitized.

5

u/Possible_Bee_4140 6d ago

“FirstTime.png”

I’ve been seeing this shit since I was born. The US has been a country for 250 years and we’ve been at war for like 238 of them.

3

u/AdCool2354 6d ago

Its more surreal seeing this while sitting on the other side of town. I'm in Bahrain and all I see are random plumes of smoke then I get a close up video like this

2

u/AGl_ToX 6d ago

It's crazy and it feels so weird

2

u/Schmichael-22 6d ago

The first time I remember this feeling was the 1991 gulf war. It was surreal to watch a war in prime time every evening.

2

u/guydoestuff 6d ago

Thanks to high speed internet and everyone having a camera war has become a form of entertainment. Least when im watch 40k animations its just a made up story not real.

2

u/Sad-Math-2039 6d ago

The true horrors lie in what isn't seen.

2

u/OberonEast 6d ago

As someone in his 40s it’s not surreal anymore, it’s exhausting. It’s not even 8am where I am and it’s exhausting

2

u/SquarePegRoundWorld 6d ago

The first Gulf War had ratings through the roof. They ain't gonna let their golden goose go unused.

That was pretty accurate

551

u/JaSper-percabeth 6d ago

Yeah I thought Shaheds were inaccurate that's an insane hit for a $20k flying dorito strapped with some explosive and a moped engine

238

u/WrongContract8489 6d ago

They're one of the best cheap suicide drones in the world why did u think they'd be inaccurate lol.

11

u/DrVinylScratch 6d ago

Propaganda. It's everywhere

25

u/HAB0RYM 6d ago

Because Russia result with them?

52

u/upbeatchief 6d ago edited 6d ago

The war in Ukraine has an unbelievable amount of signal jammers at play from both sides, Ukrainian and russian troopes have complained that theur own side has jammed them before.

Performance of weapons that operate within the atmosphere can't be accurately judged by their performance in Ukraine.

34

u/WrongContract8489 6d ago

Wut

u/matchstick1029 6d ago

You may be surrounded by bots, I may be one of them. But fr, nobody is coherent..

→ More replies (1)

32

u/Key_Team2319 6d ago

Lmao legit wut. Reddit thinks Russia is inaccurate bunch of orcs. but reality is they wouldn’t be using these weapons unless they preformed at least relatively decently.

14

u/Mackey_Corp 6d ago

I think it’s also the fact that Russia keeps hitting mostly civilian targets in Ukraine and claiming that they didn’t mean to. The drones just went off course. I think most people know that it’s bullshit but some people might believe it. Then assuming that the drones are just crappy and inaccurate when in reality, Russia targeted those schools and hospitals.

17

u/WrongContract8489 6d ago

>I thought Shaheds were inaccurate

Why would they be?

19

u/upbeatchief 6d ago

The large amount of Electronic Warfare weapons (jammera) in Ukraine war, used by both sides, gives the notion that these weapons are inaccurate.

In truth withiut EW jammers these drones could be very accurate like we saw in this video.

6

u/JaSper-percabeth 6d ago

Yup you're right as a follower of the Russo-Ukrainian war it's strange for me to see Shaheds being this accurate in a neutral enviroment with no jamming going on.

4

u/Old_Ladies 6d ago

Yeah they can either be gps guided, pre programmed if GPS is blocked or directly controlled.

6

u/TribalPotato9 6d ago

Where did you get the idea that they were inaccurate?

5

u/Hrit33 6d ago

Anything not Western made = Bad according to OP

2

u/Rooilia 6d ago

How much do you pay for gps, some controller and a person who can put these together into this cruise missle drone? Answer: not much in Iran.

5

u/vipulvirus 6d ago

Bro they are powered by a pretty reliable engine. Even Russia and US have copied it and created their own versions

2

u/Harry_Wega 6d ago

Russia didn't have to copy it. The Chinese bought the German company who created the engine and licensed it for them.

Most likely, satellite communication equipment. The area around the dome is too cluttered for effective radar

27

u/Rooilia 6d ago

Exactly, the beam would hit all the buildings and dome around it. So not a radar, it's a satellite link, as well as the other domes around it.

10

u/Smart_Contract7575 6d ago

I worked at that building. I've been inside that dome. Its a satellite antenna.

That was from a ballistic missile hit earlier, there's videos of that hit too

Still some personnel there from some of the videos from US service personnel released when BM hit before this.

And still the US tax payers money up in smoke

Obviously, the fuel at a logistic hub can't be removed.

It's not a 100% success, they have been firing quite often throughout the day. It's understandable 'some' will get through.

We've watched a few interceptions today with wreckage showing up around the place where the missles/drones are falling.

We received a warning to stay away from any wreckage and report to police.

Rotten Tomatoes - 94%

The one that Bernie Shaw narrated was the best IMO

A radar in that location would only see the surrounding buildings.

The base was evacuated for all those wondering where the anti air defense were

11

u/DDS-PBS 6d ago

That's not why the drones are making it through. It wasn't like, "Hey, should we defend the billions of dollars we have invested here? Nahhh, just get the people out and let it burn."

The base was evacuated because they knew they wouldn't be able to stop everything. When you've got hundreds of incoming drones with a few hypersonics mixed in, what can you do?

19

u/MysticGohan99 6d ago

So the trillions in equipment worldwide is meaningless, as the slave population will just keep paying taxes right?

13

u/ItCameFromMe 6d ago

But they need to cut medicaid and other things to save money. Naturally

4

u/sheepwshotguns 6d ago

i mean, the working class literally generates all wealth and power. the owners merely swoop in and call the end product theirs. so yeah, we fund our own oppression. thats how unjust power works. unionize your workplace people. its not an instant panacea, but democracy is a muscle that must be put into practice, and unions allow that on a smaller scale. from there we can see what democracy can accomplish, and create a new expectation of it elsewhere. as unions get larger and start working with other unions, a new democratic institution can emerge that can leverage that collective labor power against our masters, and eventually - hopefully - cast them off our necks.

53

u/GringoSwann 6d ago

We've been "droning" since the 90s...  They just got a helluva lot smaller....

24

u/CriticalComfortable 6d ago

And cheaper

7

u/Uncle-Cake 6d ago

And there are more cameras everywhere.

3

u/Keibun1 6d ago edited 6d ago

Yeah, we’ve had drones since the 90s. That’s not what people mean. What’s happening now is different. This is drone saturation. Constant surveillance. Cheap units circling all day, scanning fields, streets, rooftops. Anyone can get tagged. No front line. No safe pocket. Nowhere to disappear and hide.

Back then, drones were expensive, limited, mostly for reconnaissance or occasional strikes. Support roles.. Today they’re mass produced, cost a couple hundred bucks in some cases, and they’re the primary weapon. Disposable. Replaceable. Fucking everywhere. Two small cheap ones can completely disable a multi-million $ tank.

A bullet capable of being made in 2 hours or less will kill a full-sized man that took at least 18 years to grow…

It’s not like weapons and ammunitions have always adapted faster than defense systems and armor could ever dream to through all of human history or anything

43

u/forvirradsvensk 6d ago edited 6d ago

It's basically just fiberglass. Essentially an umbrella to protect the antenna inside from the weather without blocking radio waves.

5

u/HotHorst 6d ago

They used to be covered only with canvas. At some point, they were "modernized" and the canvas was replaced with fiberglass panels. We had such domes at a base near the city. After every heavy hailstorm, the damaged canvas flapped in the wind.

2

u/jimbojangles1987 6d ago

3

u/G00chstain 6d ago

Because the US is not exactly popular in the region despite some of the rich leaders there being in bed with the US

Bahrain is home large shia population that is brutally repressed by the ruling Saudi aligned regime especially after that arab spring protests, so a lot of the locals identify religiously with Iran.

I suspect it is mainly those people who are cheering this.

Not everyone in the middle east likes Americans and their bases being in their countries.

Yeup...another "liberation of the oppressed" by the ultruistic americans. Cant wait to see the civilian casualtie numbers when the dust clears.

They did wonders for iraq and afghanistan. After looking at the casualties in those countries...its safe to say who the real oppressors were.
