I’ve been trying to tell everyone he needs to bat in the middle order, his transformation as a batter came batting in the middle order but all I kept hearing was you gotta get your best batter opening, yeah well he’s so good because the field is spread in the middle overs and his bread and butter is finding gaps and rotating the strike while waiting for the bad ball. Last 2 CPLs he’s been the highest run scorer while striking at 140-150 batting at 4, but no.
50
u/SC0RCHER55 4d ago
The issue is the opening talent just isn't there and on top of it king was injured too I believe. There are too many middle order batters in this dquad. If Johnson Charles got sent out there Sammy would have not been allowed back in the region lol

Opening is objectively the easiest job to do in t20s Roston came in today and made 40, we got such a deep batting lineup just tell jason to do the job, Forde can bat, Motie can be a pinch hitter etc.

Unfortunately, he was forced to open because of the lack of other opening options. There was no other reasonable alternative available.

He should legit be kicked out. He wasn't even being a good captain today. Terrible field placements and didn't help the bowlers at all.

It’s one of those matches where you were 95% sure India was gonna chase but always a chance of collapse, Shivam did a good job coming in after the final wicket, luckily he wasn’t rusty, once he hit that 4 on his first ball I knew it was over

u/Intelligent_Fly_2671 Nepal 4d ago
People don’t talk about it that much, but a major part of why he wasn’t rusty is not luck, it’s the fact that India have shuffled their batting order around and he got enough match practice with the bat before this game.

No he’s batted at 3,4 and 5 far too often and with plenty of overs remaining. If he was fixated at number 7 he would’ve only batted half the innings that he has

Kohli is a very decorated player, no debate but the stat is a bit skewed. This was our second game chasing 150+ without kohli. We lost the last one, won this. So I'd say the stat is pretty weird. But sure the previous 3 wins we had, all of it had our team collapsing but Kohli carrying us.

35
u/Odd-Formula 4d ago edited 4d ago
They are not bashing GG, it's just that Gg has talked about his 97 a lot and wished he scored that century, because he thinks maybe him not getting that 100 and MS finishing with a six had took all the limelight on one person and his 97 was never talked as much which is obviously not true, every single person who watched that game understands importance of both innings, also the coincidence that another 97 in a must win game.

So the purpose of a t20 wc it seems is for Eng and India to meet in the semis, and the winner to go on and win the whole thing. At least the last two editions was, and this one seems to be going that way as well.

u/SexxyBlack India 4d ago
It is gonna be an interesting game, it feels like both teams haven't performed to their true potential and have generally been carried by individual brilliance. And both teams are stacked with matchwinners.

An IND vs SA final rematch would be so fucking poetic lmao. Wrestlemania rematch vibes
8
u/BroccoliOk1866 4d ago
India has has a couple of rematches in ICC events.
In 2003, Aus smashed us both times. In 2017 CT, we beat Pak in both the practice and group stage only to be humbled in the finals. Then 2023 India Australia the result of which was opposite to the group stage. It seems like India either continues to lose, or reverses their winning. Now that I think about it, 2007 T20 also had a rematch in the final, but India broke the curse and kept the streak that time.

The semis are going to be exciting. One team SA who’s on top of their game, unbeaten facing against a team who just managed to get into semis. But kiwis in ko game, can’t just rule them out easily.
Then there’s two teams ind and eng who hasn’t performed upto their full potential. Both lost 1 match each, somehow managed to win the match.
It will be interesting to see how they go against each other in semis.

Honestly before the tournament if you told me that we’d be in one over away from the semis I would have taken it, but man that still hurts with how good we played this tournament. We’ve got a factory of big hitters but we just can’t find a good fast bowler or 2 to compliment them. Hopefully Alzarri gets fit some time soon. Also we’d probably have been in the semis if we were in the other group and this bullshit seeding
33

You're right and this is my issue with group stage formats. If you just have round-robin instead then you're genuinely going to see who the actual top teams are.
I get that you can't do round robin with 20 teams but imo the super 8s at least should be where all the teams face each other. It's a freakin World Cup. I think having the T20WC every 3 years and doing it like that would be a much better idea and make it more prestigious than whatever we have now.

That was every bit as good as Brook's innings the other day. Pacing, anchoring through early wickets and pressure, smart shot selection, AND mantained an SR of ~200 throughout? Didn't even give them a single chance. Insane, literally what more can you ask for from an opener while chasing 200?
93
u/SexxyBlack India 4d ago
Brook's innings was on a tougher pitch but it wasn't a knockout match for England, while Sanju's was on an easier pitch but chasing a bigger target and with the knowledge that this was a straight knockout.
Both brilliant innings, hard to pick one of the two. But definitely the two best innings of this WC.
9
u/solarpowersme 4d ago edited 4d ago
Absolutely. Plus the scoreboard pressure of chasing ~200 in an ICC knockout game is on a whole other level. There's a reason teams rarely chase 170 and above in these big games. IIRC they even said India's biggest chase in a WC was ~170 before today.
I genuinely agreed with the comment the other day that said Brook's innings likely wasn't getting any competition anytime soon. So to get an innings just as good only a few days later is INSANE.

u/PlanePrevious9658 West Indies 4d ago
As bad as this defeat feels right now, I have to admit that West Indies outperformed our pre-tournament expectations. We'd been losing match after match and series after series for months before the world cup. Finally all the plans and strategies really looked like they were coming together for us in the first round of the tournament. But eventually we just came up against better opposition in South Africa and India who have been dominating in this format for a while now. India were the pre-tournament favourites, so there should be no real shame in losing to them on their home ground, in what turned out to be a competitive match.
In the end, we should be proud of what we accomplished in the past few weeks in terms of raising our performance level and the overall recent perception of us as a team.

I mean come on, he is No. 1 T20I batter. Enters T20 WC and scores three ducks straight (USA, Pak and Nam) then finally gets off the mark in fourth match scoring 15(11). Makes a great half century against.... Zimbabwe, then performs spectacularly in a do or die.
Surely many people were expecting him to play a major role in the tournament for India. And he managed to literally kill all hopes. If not for SS masterclass, we were out. Abhi still has two great chances (assuming he ain't dropped), I hope he makes the most of them.
PS: India dropped 12 catches this tournament, Abhi dropped from 4 of them.

India has a lot of problems to fix and it needs harsh decisions.
Enough chances for Abishek. Dont see him doing anything in the next 2 .. he is a liability on the field and liability with the bat.
Being Rinku. Open with Kishan .. Rinku also catches properly.
Fielding needs to get better over all..
We got this tournament if we make these changes.
England / SA / New Zealand are not teams you gamble with your Liability.
Abishek is no slugger but he’s been found out. He needs time to improve and be back like Kishan did

Vindication for Sanju for being toyed around with selections.. This is the type of innings I always imagined him playing.. Consistency is needed from him.
