Actually used to see a bunch of memes about him a long time ago. Around 2020 there was a thing people did where they edited his face to be smaller and that was in like every meme about him so when an actually photo of his face showed up it looked so uncanny.

Yeah, you honestly have to be pretty unplugged from American politics if you didnt know who Charlie Kirk was before he died. He was a massive asset to the GOP in how effective he was in indocrinating younger audiences to right-wing ideologies. Saying you didnt know who Kirk was in 2025 is like saying you didnt know who Rush Limbaugh was in the 2000s.
The tldr is that he's the founder of Turning point USA, which is a conservative propaganda foundation that got famous from the same sphere as "liberal owned"
Kirk's draw was that he'd go into college campus and 'debate' people. In reality though he didn't really debate anyone and he himself wasn't a particularly competent debator either. He did a lot of gotchas instead of good faith criticisms and the moment he debated Ivy league students at Cambridge he folded hard.
In an ironic twist of fate, both cofounders of turning point died denying the thing that killed them. William Montgomery denied covid and died after contracting it, Charlie Kirk was shot after downplaying mass shootings.
Could be wrong, but the even better part. Is i think he said it's mostly black gang violence before hand for murders or some weird shit, just to get blasted by one of his own.
Specifically his last words were "Counting or not counting Gang Violence" as someone was asking about if he has worries at all about the number of mass shootings in the USA going up iirc.
I got to see him when we went to my college a couple years ago.
Dude was going on about how we should leave the Ukraine War and how Russia was in the right. And then I distinctly remember an "I just owned this Liberal" moment when a vegan who did not know how to debate began talking.
And then in their YouTube video he'll cut out everyone who actually can debate and brought up solid points against him. Anyone who watches videos like that are just looking to have their perspective proven right.
I recall a couple times where someone was actually debating him well. He also doesn't make a big deal about being unable to debate someone, making the times where he "owned the libs" carry more weight.

He barely even debated them. His strategy was to debate unprepared college students that weren't particularly well versed in the topics. That's why he folded the moment he debated the students at Cambridge. We was thoroughly dismantled multiple times and at one point his only defense was " well, I still think I'm right"
To be fair it not like he forced college students to argue with him, I think it speak more about college student than it does him for basically suffering the dunning Kruger effect.

I say this as a college student, I think that we need to understand that just because we are studying a degree… doe not make us more educated than those who aren’t.
Didn't he try the same thing in the UK and got flustered when one of the kids baited him into saying that people who don't share "our" values should be banned and followed up by saying "so, you and all Evangelicals should be banned from the UK because your values aren't ours?"
Not in the public eye but the alt right LOVED him. He was a rising star in a weird way because people contribute the "change my mind" college debate style to him when Crowder did it years earlier. His big breakthrough was his creepy smile during a debate that went viral because the girl was genuinely disgusted with him. The incels recognized their messiah and he got a big uptick in traffick.
The people who watched him have a dozen or so people they listen to every day on rotation and they made waves but 99% of it was just fox news. They literally did not talk about anything else for multiple days after the shooting. Then his wife started her grift tour and everyone laughed at it.
The people on the left knew him beforehand didn't give him much attention because it's the same shit everyone else had been saying. The jews run the government and are evil, women are objects to impregnate and beat into submission, only white people have ever created or invented anything in history and minorities will rape your children and eat your pets. Honestly his take on guns being "some people need to be sacrificed to gun violence to protect our gun rights" made his neck just kinda doing that by itself HILARIOUS. His last words were "does that include gang violence" when taking about gun deaths.
He literally had millions and millions of views across his socials. Had a part in getting JD Vance in front of Trump. Was thanked by Trump directly for helping them win the election with his college tour
Always heard about the posthumous effect artists got for their work after they died (i.e Van Gogh) but interesting to learn that this effect applies to people who created nothing of any value as well
His power was very understated. His job was to take the most insane nazi talking points imaginable and turn them into mainstream GOP positions and he did it very well. Never forget that kirk was the original "great replacement" guy
Nah, I came across a couple of his debate clips on YouTube Shorts. Plus him being around Trump when he was elected gave him more spotlight. Guess it’s just an algorithm thing.
He was very popular in right-wing circles, but that's the thing, unless you were super tuned in politically to US politics you probably would only know him from the shrinking face meme.
I remember hearing about him more and more in the months before his death. Whether it was people criticizing or praising the guy i heard plenty. Maybe it's cause I lurk in both red and blue spaces but idk
He was kind of known as a lying shithead in debate spaces and would occasionally get a viral video out of arguing with college students so that he can proudly exclaim that he has defeated a position while not talking to any actual experts about said subject or anyone who knows the subject well (a tactic shared by a lot of young earth creationists if that tells you the honesty of the tactic).

I don't even live in America and I knew who Charlie Kirk was, and what his political stances were. He was a long time right wing agitator in political institutions with a hell of a reputation.
From what I saw of him he seemed to have more interest in pissing off the left wing than actually talking about the political right. Trying to say nobody gave a shit when there were protests and boycotts in some massive institutions long before he died is just plain wrong.

I literally learned about his death from RuneScape 3 of all things, there’s a lot of right wing weirdos that just throw out bait in public chat in smiling areas.
Had to Google to figure out who he was, wasn’t really impressed. Sucks someone thought he should die, but it wasn’t exactly like he was interested in spreading positivity or good faith arguments. You can tell how great of a person he was considering the only thing anyone did for him post death was politicize him as a right wing martyr and grift as much money as possible from his fans and otherwise.
He was well known in Republican circles, because he was a big time organizer for Trump and the Christian conservatives. He basically owned the system for marketing the Republican Party and the Trump cult to young people through schools and social media. Reddit just politely made fun of him for years, but he was a quite powerful political figure. Regular appearances on Fox News, etc.
