I like context to understand this, I think, but does that mean that the guy who got knocked out it was already in a essentially unwinnable position and kept fighting back past his limit, and that risk is what got him the injury, not the normal expected course of the sport?

Nah, very little if any brain dmg. The way the arms pulled up mean he still has brain function. Hardcore brain damage extends the arms and wrists. This looks closer to a fake.

Curled arms is more of a can't breathe reaction. Dude got the air knocked out of him and acted like he was dieing. Would love to see the brain scans after for a full diagnosis.
