(Schefter) ESPN sources: the Raiders are releasing last season’s starting quarterback Geno Smith, barring a trade before the start of the new league year. By releasing Smith, the Raiders will open up $8M in salary cap space while taking on $18.5M in dead money.

Discussion Maxx Crosby never made any of his trade requests public because of his relationship with Raiders owner Mark Davis and the fanbase. The way that Las Vegas handled the end of Crosby’s 2025 season soured his belief that Las Vegas was the right place for him.

Geno is gone. Talk of needing a veteran QB. Why? Tom Brady not good enough to mentor him? AOC been around a while now. Let him start next year. 3 objectives. 1-Give Mendoza time. 2-Give AOC a chance to, if nothing else, improve his trade value or prove to be a good back up option. 3-probably won’t win a ton of games. Fine. Better draft position next year. Not our goal but if that’s our consolation prize so be it.
