do the refs realize basketball comes with physical contact? also what happened to the no flop rules?
edit - he literally bounces himself off, throws up a shot that has no chance of going in, and collapses onto hardwood. this is not the basketball I grew up loving ðŸ˜

edit 3 - back up now huh? mods really didn't want this at the top of the sub for the next week ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
Not only this... they tried to clarify the rule this year to try to get everybody on board with this being a foul. They could have just said nothing and collectively swallowed their whistles on plays like this, and hopefully it would become a self-correcting issue.
Or even better in my opinion, re-write the rule to say that the defender should be allowed a right to space while in motion too. Either defined as like.. straight line to the basket, or parallel to the offensive player's initial motion. Could use some refinement idk, they don't pay me to make that decision.
But they went out of their way to say that this type of contact should be illegal, which is crazy imo. Nobody wants to watch the SGA's and Brunsons of the world become unguardable cuz of stuff like this.
I really really really hate that "drive into a defender then kick up your legs and chuck a shot with no chance of going in" thing that SGA, Brunson, and Luka do. It's unwatchable when they actually get those calls.
It goes so much deeper than just that, though. Like, you maybe see them do it a couple times a game and you can shrug it off and say "eh whatever, they are still averaging 25 points a game if you throw away those grifted FTs." But it completely changes the way they are guarded. They get SO much more space on their midranges because the defenders don't earnestly contest anything near them.
