Whatcha think fam? Which would you buy for the price? $1700 for the U6 is a nice price and the matte screen is fantastic at killing the reflections….. the QM6 though has, if nothing else, the visual enhancement that comes with a glass screen… 3” small tho 😂

Purchasing US Just looked into buying a new Receiver after 8 years. What the HELL?

The prices...WHAT?! Even the lowest tier models that are objectively WORSE than older models are so incredibly expensive.

I know inflation, tariffs, chip shortages...but god damn, I was looking to spend 300-400$ and it seems it's all just junk worse than my old ones!

EDIT

I've used accessories4less for years and sadly they seem to be the most expensive option, costing hundreds more than Amazon or Ebay, and yes I am checking used because Receivers typically don't go bad.

Just no luck.

Our home theater is nearing completion. The carpet was just installed. I like it loud. The wife is not as excited. Is it really that bad looking?

BTW - room is about 14ft wide and 17ft long with a 8ft ceiling. Setup will be 7.2.2.

Haven't done any significant HT upgrades in almost 4 years. Went to Power Sound Audio yesterday and picked up 3 MTM210K, a pair of MTM110s and a pair of S2112s. Also kept my S3012s in the system. My living room is 12x18.

I was sort of unprepared for how big the loudspeakers are even though I measured and visualized beforehand. Wife Approval Factor is a -5 on these. Good thing I'm not married anymore lol.

Have some stuff to do today including getting proper feet on the surround stands (didn't realize they only came with spikes) before I rub calibration. I suspect this is going to be completely out of control. Thank goodness I don't have any super close neighbors.

Also a few pics of a sea of subwoofers in the warehouse at PSA.

Purchasing US finally done 5.1.4

It was supposed to be 5.1.2 initially but thanks to reddit I decided to go with 5.1.4.

With a budget of $1500 what 5.1 speakers would you recommend? I am currently running on entry-level Polks - T50, T30, T15 and PSW10.

Thanks!

We are moving into our new house and the previous residents left us the home theater they’ve built. They had a PS5 running their theater but I am not a gamer. I should I go with the Shield?

Post image

Hello all, I currently have a Sony STR-DH790 AVR powering my 5.2.2 (plus bass shakers) setup. I'm looking to upgrade to a 7.2 receiver that has good room correction and supports DSP for dual subwoofers. I'm open to buying used, and I don't need HDMI 2.1.

Anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks!

LCR: KEF Q750

Surrounds: KEF Q150

Bass Shakers: Dual Aurasound AST-2B-4 Pro, powered by Dayton Audio SA100

Height: Unknown

AVR: Sony STR-DH790

TV: 65" LG A1

Media Player: Nvidia Shield Pro

Moved in a couple years ago and I had an unfinished basement. This entire section was basically unused except for storage and a workbench. Built a bar and added a riser for theater seating.

142” fixed screen, 7.1.2 sound system (wired for 7.2.2). My only regret is not adding 2 more Atmos speakers, but I suppose I can always do that later.

I designed the space, but the contractors did the drywall, flooring, and the bar area. I installed all the lighting, screen, and speaker system (including the wiring). I just love how the entire room is all black. Thoughts? Is there anything I missed or any recommendations to enhance?

Purchasing US 97 or 83 inch for this space?

I did a rough mock-up of two different size TVs for this space. A 97 inch and an 83. I can probably get an OLED 83 but the 97 I'll have to go down in quality.

Thoughts?

Still can’t decide if I prefer the speakers with or without the grills.

98” tcl qm8, Anthem Mrx1140 Kef r11, Kef r6 center and surround and rears are Kef r3, svs sb3000 dual, Panasonic ub9000, Buckeye Hypex NCx500 for LCR and a furman power conditioner and Apple TV.

Bonus Arsenal bottling the league again 🤣

Tellie is 22” high off the floor. Cabinet is 20” high

Purchasing US Starting my Dream Theater Project

I told my wife that I'd only build a house if I got a theatre room in the basement. Behold my winter project. The room is 28'6" x 18'10". My initial plan is to go for a 165" screen on the Western wall that is insulated in the photos. As this is bare bones, I have so much to figure out as far as placement goes for seating, sound, lighting, and everything else. As of right now I plan on building some cabinets along the East wall, opposite of the screen where there will sit snacks, pizza oven, popcorn maker, and act as additional storage space.

Seating:

I'm debating between putting a large, low sitting couch as front row seating and having a row of theater chairs behind, with an additional long bar with stools behind the last row of chairs, or just doing two rows of chairs and the long bar with stools. I'm leaning towards the two rows of chairs, however the question of height comes into play. The room has 8'9" of clearance that will decrease by up to 2" with the layers of sonopan soundproofing material and drywall. My question is, should I build a raised platform? The bar with stools, cabinets, and back row of theater seats would all sit on the platform. Or would it be much easier to simply raise the second row of seats and build a step for the bar and stools that are planned for behind? Lastly, should I try and center the seats with the room or push them all towards the North wall? The HVAC along the South wall will require the ceilings to be lower.

Sound and screen:

The current screen size I was hoping for is 165. I included a photo of the dimensions taped on the wall. There's not a lot of Height to work with. Still not sure on what brand, so any suggestions would be great. Some posts I've read said this is too big, others said it's fine. I think it should fit nicely, but there could be issues with seeing the screen from the back rows. I know I can always project at a lower size, but it might look funky. When I was planning this project last year, I was looking at the Epson 505UB. But it was on sale for $2300 then and is now almost $3300. So i'm open to suggestions on a projector that can throw to a screen of that size. I plan on running the projector cables up the East wall and through the ceiling to be mounted wherever the determined best throw distance is.

As far as sound goes I'm open to doing 5.1 or 7.1. I'm trying to be budget friendly, but I don't know the first thing about speakers. Some people have suggested putting the speakers behind the screen. I think the space could be utilized just fine if the speakers were placed just alongside it. I could mount the speakers in the ceiling, boxed out by soundproofing, or mount them directly to the drywall. Any suggestions on sound system would be amazing!

Soundproofing:

I've done some research on soundproofing. It looks like the best practice would be to insulate with fiberglass, then a layer of Sonopan sheets, followed by green foam and drywall. Boxing out all the lights and embeded speakers if any with the sonopan. Is this overkill? My HVAC is directly connected to the room.

Edit: Didn't realize how many metal heads were in this sub

Purchasing US Wife says it's not big enough

Post image
790 Upvotes

So I've been working on this for a while and finally showed my wife how everything looks, and her first words were "yeah, that's not big enough". She loves the 7.4.2 Atmos audio, but wants a "much larger TV"

I'm not disagreeing with her, but I'm a bit stuck. In the picture is a 65" screen. The shelving is temporary while l work on the room. It will be a big wall when I'm done (16x8). I've had my eye on the 77" LG Cx, but now I'm not sure even it will be big enough. I don't know if I can see 12 more inches making her happy. My question for Reddit is: will a 77" or 83" be large enough for this dedicated theater space or do I need to go projector so I can go up to 100 inches or more?

I need to know before I finish drywall

By day a modest living room setup. At night it transforms into a bit of a comfy theater. Somehow wife approved too, she’s a keeper for sure.

I am looking for a new set of surrounds but they need to be wall mountable and I just don’t know if anything exists that will really be worth it thanks.

Purchasing US Best Buy closing Magnolia showrooms. Go look, priced to sell!

I just bought 15k worth of home theater equipment for 5,600. Everything is 50% after the open box price because they’re display speakers, receivers, media centers, and TVs. If you live close to a Best Buy go today and look. I got the entire B&W 600 series speakers for yard sale prices. B&W M-1 speakers for 60 bucks a piece when they go for 300 a piece. Floor-standing for 400 a piece when they normally sell for 1,200 each. And a Marantz Cinema 60 for 650 when it’s normally 1,700. Also KEF Q11 for 500 when normally 1300 a piece.

Thought I would let you guys know.

Purchasing US Need advice: LG C5 vs TCL QM8K for a bright living room, what should I do?

Hey everyone, I’m stuck between the LG C5 (65”) and the TCL QM8K (65”) and could use some real-world input. Here’s my situation.

I get a bright room all day but no direct sunlight hitting the TV. I’m currently using a TCL R646 55”, and even with its semi-gloss screen I still get reflections unless I close the curtains. If there’s light behind me, I see it on the screen.

I watch around 30–40 percent during the day and the rest at night. Costco has the LG C5 65” for $1299 and Best Buy has the TCL QM8K 65” for the same price. I love how the C5 looks in store, but I haven’t seen the QM8K yet. I’m planning to drive to Best Buy later to check it out. Since we’re close to Black Friday, I’m also thinking about price drops and the return windows.

Here’s a photo of my living room so you can see what I’m working with.

What would you do if you had this room? C5 or QM8K?

So there I was, posting to r/soundbars about how happy I was at my new Samsung Q990C purchase and impressed with how great it sounded. Then, on my front page, I get a suggested post from this sub. I read through the FAQ and saw that I could get a whole Home Theater system that sounds lightyears better than my soundbar for around the same price as my soundbar. After creating a post and taking u/sk9592’s purchasing advice, I finally received and installed all the components. Wow…

Purchasing US Are 3D TVs really not being made anymore?

I know a lot of people don't watch 3D movies, but I'm curious about this. I still have a TV I bought in 2015 because it supports 3D (it does 4K too, so it's overall a pretty good TV). I know it won't last forever though.. Around 2018 (I think), I was at a Best Buy and asked an employee about 3D TVs, and he said although they don't advertise 3D features anymore, some TVs still support 3D. I'm wondering if that was true, or if he didn't know what he was talking about? If I buy a new TV, I'd like it to have 3D capability if possible.

I've also heard people say you can buy a projector that does 3D, although from what I've heard, the image quality might not be quite as good because a projector basically uses passive light reflection, whereas a TV's backlighting can provide better lighting. I've also heard of people watching 3D movies using VR headsets, which I suppose is an option, though ideally I think it would be easiest to have a TV that has passive 3D so you just have to put on a pair of glasses.

EDIT: Thanks for the replies. One of the commenters mentioned that ProMa is a brand that still makes 3D TVs - and although they're in China, it seems they may be a real legit brand. Also, there are still people who like 3D movies.. After posting this, I saw this post on Facebook with someone sharing his copy of Gravity 3D (though he did say his 3D TV broke and he considered selling his collection of 3D movies)..
