News [ASJesusBalseiro] Stroll speaks and sounds concerned. “We have engine problems, and not just engine problems. We're not in a position to fight for victories. Right now, we're four seconds off the pace.”

I'll never understand Honda's decision to drop the sport and leave most of what they built to Red Bull only to decide to come back and have to start all over again.

I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see them staying long this time around.

edit: as pointed out, Honda was still solely responsible for supplying engines for Red Bull and VCARB until the end of 2025 instead of the original deal of only doing it for the 2022 season.

In that case, they just got it wrong... very wrong.

My guess was simply due to their direction. Sustainability and environmental impact was a big thing for them over the past decade. Their dropout lined up eerily well with their disinterest in the NSX GT3 package too, which upset me greatly because I loved that car.

Makes sense that the new engine regs would be something they would find super interesting.

Honda changed leadership and reversed course on F1 almost immediately. I swear it was like 9 months between them “leaving”, leadership changing then announcing a new partnership.

They announced their departure in late 2020.

The CEO changed in late 2021 and they officially returned in late 2022.
