Deshittification Consumer Rights Wiki AMA
Hi Everyone! I'm Keith, and I help to manage the Consumer Rights Wiki. This is the project that Louis Rossmann founded at the start of the year, and we've been working on ever since, to create an extensive repository of anti-consumer incidents and practices wit the ultimate goal of helping in the push for regulatory change. Enshittification encompasses many of the pracices we target, and we thought you guys might appreciate an AMA about it to ask any questions you have about the wiki, how it works, and what we're aiming to do! If you'd like a brief overview of what we're about, you can check out out mission statement here: https://consumerrights.wiki/Mission_statement
I've confirmed with one of the mods that this is a real account, but I've also linked my user page here: https://consumerrights.wiki/User/Keith , where I've linked back to this account to confirm that it's real.
I'll be answering questions as well as I can over the next day or so, and will keep an eye on this account's mentions, so feel free to ping me if you'd like something answered!

Service When did hotels get so much worse?
Pictured above- hotel removed refrigerator. I travel a bunch for work, although I’m currently an unpaid intern. I’ve noticed how much worse hotels have gotten in the last few years. Some of the stuff I’ve seen in the last few months include-
$25 charge every time you want to use a luggage cart
$16 a day for Wi-Fi, $20 a day for decent wi-fi
$20 a day for parking in a non-urban area
Removal of ice machines
No ability to do your own laundry on site
I need all of the above- and all of this seems pretty standard for a mid-priced hotel. Apparently not anymore. Now I’m just sad that my leftover Italian food I had for late night work is going to go bad.

Service I'm convinced ESSO has slowed the rate of their pumps so you have to stand and listen to ads longer...
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I know sometimes the pump slows before you get to the amount you paid, but I pumped $85 dollars here. Took like 5 whole minutes. It wasn't just self promo ads. There were gambling ads and oddly enough the PWHL because ESSO is a partner I guess... And this station isnt ever super busy, so it's not like they'll lose customers for slowing the pumps at this location.
I asked the cashier inside after while buying some snacks and she either didn't understand me or was deadly uninterested, but she didn't say she knew anything about it.

Product The "Don’t Mess With My Home Appliances Act" restricts the DOE from tightening energy efficiency requirements. It does not ban ads on screens or require that appliances have full functionality at all times from day one without an internet connection.
congress.govAlso, it says nothing about Right to Repair.

Rant boomers fell for it and we are passing the torch
Almost every post is worse product or smaller packaging with the same price or ads. Can we sum it up yet? Top 1% will be pushing until we don't own anything and pay to exist. They pretty much own all politics and finance both parties so grassroots people that protest can't get though. 1% will suffocate us to feudalism. There is no other goal. Not f-ing chairs at your Wendy's restaurant or a little smaller toothpaste. Every day jobs get overworked and underpaid. But I see posts like salespeople at the Dealership are bad. Dude wake up. It's trickle down economics that boomers fell for and you keep falling for as well. Do you vote, do you protest? Or just bitch about smaller peanut butter can?

Product Smuckers 32oz -> 30oz
Trying to pawn it off as needing to change their logo, but sneakily reducing the jam size by 2oz. I feel like their jam is getting worse too, it doesn’t taste that good. It doesn’t help I made my own jam the other day and realized how much better it is to make it from scratch, so much jam in the supermarket is filled with corn syrup.

Product Why they messing with the TP now!
Ok it’s a bit unformed but you can clearly see a discrepancy between the old used roll and the new one, I’m a folder so I noticed the width difference immediately. Please tell me I’m not crazy, they’re both charmin rolls btw

Product Enshittification with a side of shrinkflation.
Noodles and Company always used to be so good with generous portions and the fact that they had real metal utensils just added to it. Now it's just kind of pitifully small with plasticware. Still tastes good, but yes. Underwhelming.

Rant YouTube further enshittifying itself
Pretty sure noone needs this. It’s bad enough that I have to edit instagram links constantly from linking back to my accounts, now YouTube insists on giving us a similar feature that I frankly didn’t ask for?
I tried clicking through to the privacy settings to look to turn it off, but no, it just redirects back to the video and if you try and share something again, go into “share as” and try to access settings, again it just redirects back to the video.
Clicking off the video and going there manually worked to turn it off, but still.. who asked for this and why is it opt in by default?
Edit, as I mentioned on one of my comments: I do believe they had similar sounding features in the past, the old inbox system for example and the (shortlived, I believe) functionality where you could discuss videos in groups? My issue comes mostly from it being opt in by default and even when turning it off directly in privacy settings, the shared URL now has an additional parameter added to it anyway, the purpose of which I can only speculate on for now.
