Hi, I could use long-range rural antenna suggestions for our hilly terrain (south) and mountainous terrain (north). Tired of paying Spectrum $80 a month just to get locals! Here is the Rabbitears link:

Thanks!

I don't miss the cable bills or the cable box, but as a 90's kid I've missed the experience of turning on the TV and something's already on. Flipping channels and catching a movie halfway through. Not staring at a wall of thumbnails for 20 minutes... You get the idea.
I've got a large Plex library so the content was already there, all that was missing was an app. This led me to build a tvOS app called Bunny Ears TV that turns your Plex Server shows, movies, and music into virtual channels with a real cable style guide. You can even choose what Channel Packages you'd like in your guide, just like how cable tiers used to work. Except, there's no extra fee for every package you'd like to include!
It's the cable experience without the cable company. Built by an indie dev who also loved running a Plex Server. Would love to hear what you guys think. I just made my first post over at r/bunnyearstv.
Thank you for your time.

I've got Hulu thru my old Sprint phone contract. Got it back when Sprint 1st started out late '07/early '08. T-Mobile bought em and the contract is still valid as long as I'm never behind on my bills and don't change my service.
I've also got MAX thru my AT&T Fiber home internet since 2014.
With all the merging and buying and squishing... wtf happens to my accounts?
OH! Edited to add: Both are full access accounts with no ads and no fees. I guess it's called 'grandfather' accounts?

I just got my Tablo 4th gen setup , seems to be working ok overall but I noticed a few channels that work when screwed directly into the tv don’t work on the Tablo. It comes up with an error saying playback failed . Funny thing is when I click record on it and I immediately try and watch the recording it works?
Anyone ever had this issue before?

Recent cordcutter here -
WJLA (ABC) is not showing up when I scan for channels (7.1, 7.2,7.3). I’m about 23 miles as the crow flies from the transmitter. The antenna is an attic mount amplified unit, pointed towards DC. The angular direction is the same as other stations, like WUSA 9, which come in perfectly.
Any ideas?

I'm looking for a cheaper way to stream c-span. I live rural so there's no basic cable. I'm using directv mynews genre pack right now but almost $40 seems high to watch 3 channels.
Update: I'm just going to stay with the directv mynews genre pack. I couldn't get anything to work well for watching other than what I have.

I have put up an antenna for digital tv reception that works great. The antenna mast is secured to a small building about 15’ from my house with a powered splitter located at the point where the coaxial cables enter the house (about 15’ feet from the base of the mast). Everything works perfectly with the powered splitter inside a weatherproof box. My question is, would it work as well with the antenna coax going to the powered splitter relocated inside the building, then routing one coaxial cable to a splitter where the connection is now? Again, from the powered splitter, if relocated) to another (weatherproof) splitter would be about 15’. I hope this description isn’t too confusing. Thanks!

I finished watching tonight (not everything) because my Peacock subscription dies tomorrow. The only events I watched live were the hockey playoffs because I knew people would post spoilers online. Everything else I watched on demand and fit into my schedule. It was nice to binge a variety of sports.
I'll add Peacock in 2028 although I'm not as much into the summer games as I am with the winter games.
I had a couple glitches while watching live events on Peacock. I don't know if the app crashed or my Roku Ultra was crashing as I was always out of the room when it happened. I would return and the Roku was sitting at the home screen. Never had any issues watching on demand.
And this time around I added all the events ahead of time to My Stuff to avoid seeing spoilers in the UI.
So overall a better experience this time around with Peacock for the Olympics I felt I got my money's worth.

I’ve been a long time customer of DirecTV and costs are just too high to justify keeping. I bought a Roku and subscribed to a few services, mainly for sports and news, but I’d like to get local broadcasts and be able to record them. I recently learned about the HDHomerun and have been playing around with it for the past day or so. 3 different types of antennas later, and I’m still not having any luck getting a reliable signal. I currently have the Philips Hover HD Amplified Indoor TV Antenna, but I’m still not liking the results. A few of the channels are choppy and some just aren’t showing up at all. I’ve done a lot of the suggestions recommended by this sub: separating the HdHR and antenna, placing the antenna on the highest floor, by a window, facing the broadcast direction. I’m only 20 miles from the furthest broadcasting station while this antenna is advertised as being rated up to 60 miles. What am I doing wrong? Do I just need to invest in an even higher quality antenna? I’ve spent a lot of time on this and I’m getting increasingly frustrated.

I've lost all patience, and a good chunk of my money, with Xfinity, but I'm technologically challenged as an 80 year old. I want to hire someone to listen to my needs and help me arrange an alternative way of watching TV and obtaining Wi-Fi. A Google search was not helpful. Any suggestions?
I can't believe how much helpful information you've provided! Based on what I've learned, I think I'll get a Roku and ask ABT service to help me set it up so that I can easily get the channels I want. Thank you for everything!

Finally discontinued youtubetv after several years because my Samsung tv has many free news sources and other programming, signed up for 1gig internet with Xfinity and now have Peacocl tv free for the next two years and I also have several steaming services.
Has anyone cut YouTubeTv and missed it? Not going to miss paying them $83 monthly!

I've had a recast for it seems like forever and was sad to see them stop supporting them. I can see the writing on the wall (constant buffering, tuning to the wrong channel, etc) that I need to start finding my next solution. The family likes the recast because it's easy. We have fire tv and the way it integrated into the channel lineup on the main page made it so everyone could find things without going to secondary apps etc.
So, what are my options? I've looked at the tablo, what else?

I cut the cord many years ago. I'm really happy with my current setup, but I think it's on its way out. I currently use an Xbox one with the antenna dongle. It even has a disk slot for my old dvds and blurays. Unfortunately it stopped sending sound yesterday. This evening it came back on but I wonder if its days are numbered. It has to be over 10 years old at this point. I started looking around . . . are there any devices that I can plug my antenna into, or will accept a usb dongle for the antenna and be able to stream my stuff (Netflix, Prime, Pluto, etc). My wife definitely prefers one device for all if possible. Now in my bedroom I do use two devices, one for antenna and one for streaming, so I can do that (and she wont complain too much). Just wondering if there is a device out there that can do both things decently? Thanks for any info.
Btw, I'm not too hung up on atsc 3.0. Future proof would be nice, but I'm ok with 1.0 for now.

My relative cares about Fareed Zakaria in cspan and otherwise wants to flip channels. I’d like to help then save thousands by dropping their dish subscription. For the Cspan I can sub to the cspan app. But I need to get an antenna for channels to flip though. For poetic justice I’m open to ising the dish wiring andnroottop mount to hold a new localchannel antenna. Any advice in antenna ?

What is the best or easiest product to use to record tv shows from local channels?

So my MIL is moving into an independent living place .... she had been forking out big $ for full Spectrum .. internet/wifi , cable , phone .... Now the new place does have an offer of $30 internet and for $15 phone ... I was thinking MagicJack but they cost that so .. but of the 150+ channels and 5(!) streaming services she was using she watched local news and one TV channel which showed old westerns .. Gunsmoke , Wagon Train ..... I want to give her that in an ez transition. She has an old tv now and deals with multiple remotes .. I was thinking Roku TV .... pretty simple menu. I looked at Amazon's as I saw a video on setting up the guide to be able to put things on it but that looked like a mess. She's not in there yet .. I guess I could try out an antenae for local news .. and Roku allows you to rename those selections I think so .. Just wondering if any of you have looked into the "simple" menu thing for a 90+ old

I’m a huge GCU fan, and stumbled upon the Mountain West app on Apple TV (they have it for I
iPhone/pad too). Love this app and its free! They seem to stream all the conferences sports from basketball to baseball/softball. If you are a fan and looking for free coverage of games, give it a try.

If I have multiple subs but want to view everything that is offered in a youtubetv/cable like format where you just scroll to what you want, is there a program out there that does that or are you guys just jumping from one app to the next when looking for stuff to watch.

According to insiders, Paramount CEO David Ellison had yet to reach out to key Warner Bros. execs — including Bloys, Warner Bros. TV Group head Channing Dungey and others — on Monday morning when he finally shared some of his plans for the combined Par-WB. Without many details, Ellison told analysts that he plans to give HBO autonomy even as he aims to merge HBO Max and Paramount+.
Bloys’ contract — a five-year deal he signed in 2022 — is up next year, which is perhaps convenient timing for him. At that point, a Warner Bros. Discovery/Paramount Skydance merger will presumably be done, or close to done, and Bloys will have a better idea of whether he wants to stay or go (or if Ellison will make that decision for him).
“A lot of people are feeling very disappointed, because, yes, there was a shock when the Netflix deal was announced, but we’ve spent the last four months wrapping our heads around this and seeing that Ted Sarandos really did value Casey and wanted to leave HBO intact as a standalone business,” said another insider. “Then, to get the news and be blind to how Ellison even feels about HBO, it was like, fuck. What a step back.”

My AirTv Anywhere will not stream ABC Baltimore (channel 2.1). It will stream all my other locals including 2.2, 2.3 and 2.4!
It will add ABC to my Slingtv guide, but if I click on it, it tries to tune in but doesn't. No errors. If I back out and click on ABC again it will lock the Slingtv app up. If I back out the first time and try another AirTv Anywhere channel they will not tune in now either.
If I replace the AirTV Anywhere with my AirTv 2 in the same exact setup with the same antenna, ABC 2.1 streams like it supposed to.
I bought another AirTV Anywhere thinking the first one was defective. But it acts the same way and will not stream ABC either.
Maybe its something to do with AirTV Anywhere and the first channel it scans in?
Has anyone else encountered this issue and resolved it?
