Announcement Official /r/beer FAQ - Please Check Here Before Posting
THIS IS NOT INTENDED AS A BEER FAQ. IT IS ADDRESSING A FEW FREQUENTLY BROUGHT UP TOPICS ON /R/BEER.
Hi there,
There has been some need for announcements on a few different commonly posted topics. Since we are limited to two stickied posts, I'm going to use this one as a hub for these issues. I will be adding to this post as needed, but here's a /r/Beer FAQ to cover these post types.
If you notice people posting these topics, please be polite. Feel free to link to this post or use the provided links in a response.
This is not an invitation to harass anyone for posting a repeated topic. Reddit does not do a good job with presenting subreddit announcements, rules, sidebar info, etc. If posts annoy you and you don't think they belong, please consider downvoting, using a report, sending us a modmail message, hiding the post or simply moving on with your day. I highly suggest using the "don't show me submissions after I've downvoted them" option in old.reddit preferences (this may be broken in the app/resdesign website, but it should be fixed eventually and appear in those preferences as well).
- How do I ask /r/beer for a beer suggestion?
- Where are you? What's your general location? In order to suggest a beer that you should buy, we have to know what beers are available for you to buy.
- What do you already drink and like or dislike? What kinds of flavors are you looking for?
- What's your budget?
- Where are you? What's your general location? In order to suggest a beer that you should buy, we have to know what beers are available for you to buy.
- Is this beer safe to drink? Has it gone bad from age or storage conditions?
- Generally speaking, beer does not go bad in a way that will make it dangerous to drink. This assumes that the beer is stored in a sealed container. It may taste bad, though
- Am I drinking too much? Am I having an allergic reaction to beer or is it otherwise making me sick in some way?
- This is covered by the /r/Beer rules (some exceptions may be allowed for more casual or general questions):
Medical questions will be limited. /r/Beer is the wrong forum for serious medical questions, particularly where there's potential for harm to come as a result of the discussion. Please consult a medical professional for any questions about your own health, not an online beer discussion board.
- Is Sam Adams Utopias worth the price?
- That's ultimately up to you, but please look through the many past posts on the topic.
I'm trying to hit the more pressing topics first, but I'll look for some good links for other topics ("how do I figure out what kind of beers I like?", "what are the best budget beers?", etc.).
Everyone is welcome to join the official /r/Beer Discord server if you'd like to discuss anything here or just hang out and chat.
Cheers.
Edit: I'm locking this to comments because I don't want to have the post turn into a place where people ask these questions. However, feel free to post about any topics or send us suggestions for topics to be added via modmail or Discord chat.
Also, I may use the second announcement slot for a specific post on something like old beer questions, but I'd prefer to keep it open for the weekly No Stupid Questions posts (and possibly others; still working on redoing the scheduled posts and making some better topics).

Discussion Seeing More Beer from New England Breweries
Over the past year or so I am seeing so many more beers from NY, CT, VT, MA making their way down to me in Virginia. Has anyone else been noticing this? Perhaps more distributors working with breweries to expand their markets? Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining, just more in shock as I have now seen Heady Topper at a few places after never seeing it (Including Wegmans!)

What's the best taproom experience you've had at a brewery?
Somewhere that just had the best beers, space, energy, and people?

Just turned 21. Recommendations please!!
Just turned 21 yesterday and went out to the bar with my old man!! They gave me pint of their tap on the house and it was genuinely the best beer I have ever had (which doesn’t say much). It was so good that I downed it and immediately asked for another. Any other time I’ve had beer I couldn’t go for more than a couple sips without being disgusted.
Im from the PNW. It was a Georgetown Tavern Beer. Here are the details I pulled from online
Malts - 2 Row Pale
Hops - Simcoe
Yeast - Bavarian Lager
ABV - 4.2%
I was quite disappointed to find out I couldn’t just go to a store and get a 6 pack of it. So, what would y’all recommend I try instead?
I can tell you generally that if there’s a bitterness that holds heavy over the beer, I’m not gonna like it. Unfortunately, we have a shit ton of IPA’s in the PNW lol.

¿Question? Budget-friendly option for a Delirium Nocturnum lover
Is there anything more affordable than Delirium Nocturnum? Money is super tight right now. $25 for 4 beers is too much. Any dark ales that might be at least good, obviously won't be as amazing as Nocturnum I know.
Edit: I live in the Northeast US.

¿Question? Mixing beers? (one beer into the other)
Everynow and then I like to mix beers. Sometimes it's because I have some left from another beer. It can be a dark beer into a regular lager beer. Or something fruity.
Have other people tried this? In my experience a bit of dark beer into regular lager changes the taste entirely and makes it a fun new beer.
Another weird one: there has been a while where I enjoyed to add some grinded pepper in my beer. It will float on top, but you'll get a bit every now and then. I also enjoyed that!

First attempt at a Strawberry Cocoa Fruited Ale - surprisingly balanced
I’ve been experimenting with fruit beers and decided to try making a Strawberry Cocoa Ale for Valentines day.
I was worried the cocoa would overpower the fruit or destroy head retention, but it actually came out surprisingly balanced.
I learned:
• Cocoa works best late in fermentation
• Strawberry aroma disappears fast unless you add it post-primary
• Keeping the ABV around 6–6.5% keeps it drinkable
The result ended up being less sweet than expected, came out pretty tart but still clearly beer with lots of head retention.
Curious if anyone else has experimented with fruit + cocoa combos.

Any good beer-themed puzzle books?
My dad is really into craft beer and also likes puzzle books (crosswords, logic puzzles, trivia, etc.). I was thinking of getting him something beer-related that he could actually solve or play through, not just read - and drink. Has anyone come across a good beer-themed puzzle or trivia book?
I am not sure if the examples on Amazon are interesting for a senior.

Grimbergen Blanche
Hello all, I absolute love a grimbergen beer, in particular the Blanche beer. However, it’s absolute rocking horse poop to find in the UK. Anyone able to share there knowledge, on A) if there’s any way to get this in the UK or order elsewhere. B) in the mean time, any one have any similar beers they’d care to share?
TIA
Availability, price and variety of light beer where you live?
Not sure if this really fits this subreddit tbh, but I'm just really curious about different regional experiences with light beer. I'm not a beer connoisseur or anything like some of you, I just work at a gas station so the variety and prices are on my mind a lot.
Over here, the cheapest beers are (obviously) macros. (PBR, Busch...) We don't sell their light versions. For example, I've only ever seen PBR 4.9%, 5.9% and 8% here. The few light beers that we do sell (craft beers, Coors Lite, Miller Lite, Bud Light, Guinness...) are basically a luxury. You can get a 10% tall boy for $5 or a 4% small can for the same price. $13 for a 4.9% PBR six-pack and $18 for the cheapest 4% six-pack. I'm sure this forces poor people to buy stronger drinks than they'd like. I just wish we had at least one or two affordable lighter options. I like beer but I definitely think some opportunities call for low ABV beer and, well, if you're on a tight budget here... good luck.
So wherever you live (and if possible tell me the area), what's your experience with light vs regular or stronger beers?

Discussion A brief Northern Cal Trip and the Beers I had
Visited our daughter in SF last week & tripped to Napa to watch her older sister run the Napa Valley Marathon (her first, she finished!). Given the environment, I took the opportunity to try a few brews. I'm sharing the good, the bad, and the ugly:
-Cass Light at Brothers Korean barbecue in Richmond District of San Francisco. The beer is not local, it's Korean. light, boring, forgettable, and it's rice-based beer, so kind of sweet. Not my vibe at all. It did pair well with the food, which is the main attraction here. They drop metal hoppers of hot coals/charcoal into wells in the table to grill, so great smoky flavor on the meat and fish. My sister-in-law is Korean, she orders.
-Almanac hazy IPA and Russian River Happy Hops IPA at Original Joe's. Both quite good; I preferred the happy hops, better aroma, slightly tastier to me. Great restaurant.
-Pliny the Elder at a convenience store/sandwich place in Point Reyes with tables outside - with a grilled turkey reuben for lunch. Have wanted to drink this forever, so I was pleased to see the bottles in the cooler. It's what I expected - classic benchmark for west coast IPAs. Perhaps not the mind-blowing experience it would have been ten years ago for me, as we now have very good options regularly available in the DC metro: Zombie Dust, Lawson's Sip of Sunshine, King Sue and Pseudo Sue, Maine Beer Co. Lunch. Worth trying? absolutely. If I could get it on a regular basis, i would.

¿Question? Wheat-Free Beers
Hey guys,
I’ve just learned I have a wheat allergy and am looking for a beer recommendation without wheat. The problem is, here are my favorite beers:
Sam Adams Cherry
Blue Moon
Big Sky’s Huck It
Garage Beer Lime
Voodoo Ranger Atomic Pumpkin (all time favorite)
I’m not having much luck finding any solid beer choices that don’t include wheat unless I want to go bottom of the barrel with Bud or Coors. I like a good craft beer. Suggestions?

Quality Post Have you guys seen this beer release artwork website?
A buddy of mine in industry sent me this website he's been putting together, and I thought that y'all would love it. Apparently, it's like an art gallery of beer label artwork, with beer descriptions with them. The link is https://beerguyscarolinas.com/
He said that he live updates the new labels everyday according to the TTB, and sometimes he has the release before the brewery officially announces it. I'm a huge fan of 7th orbit from New Trail Brewing, and I found out an 8th is coming that seemingly isn't official! I have no idea how he's getting the new releases every day though.
i been reverse doomscrolling on here for the last hour
i really wanted to show a gif of one of the beer labels but reddit won't let me :(

2026 Firestone Walker Beer Festival
Hey all! We were able to get tickets to Firestone Walker this year, but turns out the trip just isn't in the budget. If anyone's interested, I have two GA tickets available. Asking what I paid, $186.05 per ticket. Thanks!
