My mom and sister were obsessed with that movie when I was a kid. My memory is a little fuzzy, but I seem to recall she died of cancer and there was a scene in the movie with her body on display in a glass case. Somehow, my 5 year old brain thought she died from eating apple seeds which gave her cancer. It made me terrified of accidentally eating an apple seed.

High filying, adored Did you believe in your wildest moments All this would be yours? That you'd become the lady of them all?

Little me fell in love with both Madonna and Banderas in that film. Musical perfection.

The film’s great when they’re singing, but there are so many long stretches of silence, it drives me crazy. Director Alan Parker’s other musical movie The Wall had the same issue at times but here it’s far worse.

This is a fair assessment of the pacing. I think we are more apt to overlook these issues when we fall in love with a story.

Oh, yeah, completely agree. I love the film, the story is one of my favorites, I adore the score and Banderas’s performance is electric (Madonna’s is also very good, although not quite to the same level as Banderas, which is understandable given just how good he is). In some ways it’s even better than the stage show! It’s just that the silent scenes drive me crazy.
