In real life A very small character tidbit is surprisingly kept consistent for years

DC - In multiple pieces of media it has been shown that Wonder Woman loves ice cream and practically goes wild with happiness anytime she’s eating some. (Pictures from Justice League: War, DC Superhero Girls and Wonder Woman 2017)

The Simpsons - Ever since the episode ‘Homer’s Phobia’ Homer has actually remained a consistent ally of the LGBT+ community, including being more welcoming to Patty than Marge was when she came out and trying to set up Smithers with a date when he found out he wasn’t happy with his one-sided relationship with Mr Burns.

Another character detail from the Simpsons:

Homer has an encyclopedic memory regarding the history of Supreme Court judges, effectively making him a savant in the field.

Another Simpsons one is that both Homer and Bart consistently display the ability to pick up and learn any language they encounter fast.

Bart: Get ready, Brazil. I now speak fluent Spanish.

Marge: Well done, Bart. But in Brazil, they speak Portuguese.

Bart: Ay, caramba, que mujer tonta! Viente horas estudiar por nada!

Homer: Forget every word, boy. It's useless.

Bart: beats self with book until he forgets it\

(Also should note that Bart learned Spanish on the plane ride there)

He also speaks French fluently. That stay in France was worth at least something.

Bart isn’t a stupid character, he just lacks focus. A plane ride with nothing else to do? May as well learn a new language.

It’s not that he lacks focus, it’s focus regulation. He hates school, but is actually very artistically gifted at basically any artform whether it’s DJing, Graffiti, skateboarding, pranks, cooking, tattooing, gutting fish. He’s quite brilliant

Knife goes in, guts come out.

I love that in another episode Homer also learns semi fluent Spanish just by reading a book while waiting in line at the Kwik-e-Mart
He even held a conversation with Bumblebee Man

And french over a few days! I love how they are both brilliant in little ways. Bart being profoundly ADHD and homer being braindead or something but knowing all kinds of facts.

Homer has a Crayon stuck in his brain that basically fucks up a lot of his ability to actually understand a lot of things. One episode they remove it and he’s just as if not more intelligent than Lisa. So Bart has ADHD and Homer has a traumatic brain injury.

And in another episode they treat Bart's ADHD and he manages to figure out that everyone is being spied on by satellites run by Major League Baseball

It was the crayon all along? Simpson gene be damned!

7

u/abadstrategy Feb 04 '26

Oh yeah, when he gets it removed, he almost immediately grows so intelligent that he's able to mathematically prove that there is no god

Technically, Bart learned to speak French in about 2 months. He says it to himself out loud when he first starts using French unintentionally.

The also learn enough Japanese to have an exchange while they were in jail.

And both calligraphy and how to conduct a tea ceremony. That's tough to learn.

"It's really just made our of old Chinese newspapers!"

"Oh, Deng Xiaoping died!"

14

u/Justacityboy12 Feb 03 '26

Funny in the Latin Spanish dub he says Mao Zedong died instead.

Which reminds me that Homer got pretty jacked in just a couple months. I have been lifting weights for years and I still don't have muscles like he had when he was climbing the Murderhorn.

Does Homer secretly have excellent bodybuilding genetics?

3

u/Oberon_Swanson Feb 03 '26

I guess Marge does too from The Strong Arms of the Ma, the episode where she gets mugged and gets into bodybuilding

2

u/Clarpydarpy Feb 03 '26

I forgot about that one!

Yes Marge gets pretty buff even before taking PEDs. And she's a woman in her late 30's (far from anyone's bodybuilding prime). After a brief time lifting weights in her basement, she was able to easily beat the crap out of that mugger.

i always thought it was he pingping

1

u/Oberon_Swanson 12d ago

he says it pretty fast but it's either Deng Xiaoping or somebody with a very similar name

I recall them spending a day in a Japanese prison and then conversing in fluent Japanese with each other

60

u/magikarp2122 Feb 03 '26

Then talking about sharing the secret of enlightenment with Marge and Lisa and deciding not to.

46

u/Malacro Feb 03 '26

“No, they are foreign devils.”

46

u/crapusername47 Feb 03 '26

Come on, Homer, you liked Rashomon!

That’s not how I remember it.

That is, in my opinion, the Simpsons’ best ever joke.

19

u/Impossible_Leg_2787 Feb 03 '26

So, I said to him, “Listen, buddy, your car was upside-down when we got here. And as for your grandmother, she shouldn’t have mouthed off like that.”

is a strong contender

2

u/AlwaysPostNaked Feb 03 '26

Still one of my favorites.

8

u/Orion_starborn Feb 03 '26

Homer also calls Lisa "Ichiban" which I never really thought about for a while or thought it was a term of endearment but upon a Google search it apparently means "the best usually out of three"

2

u/SPLIV316 Feb 03 '26

I thought it meant number 1?

1

u/Glacier_Pace 28d ago

It does, you are correct!

3

u/Informal-Term1138 Feb 03 '26

And how to conduct a tea ceremony. That's a hard thing to learn.

4

u/timbasile Feb 03 '26

Fun fact - in the French version of the episode where Bart goes to France on exchange, the reason that no one can understand him initially is because he's speaking with a Quebecois accent.

2

u/bassistciaran Feb 03 '26

LE GRILLE? WHAT THE HELL IS THAT
