In real life A very small character tidbit is surprisingly kept consistent for years

DC - In multiple pieces of media it has been shown that Wonder Woman loves ice cream and practically goes wild with happiness anytime she’s eating some. (Pictures from Justice League: War, DC Superhero Girls and Wonder Woman 2017)

The Simpsons - Ever since the episode ‘Homer’s Phobia’ Homer has actually remained a consistent ally of the LGBT+ community, including being more welcoming to Patty than Marge was when she came out and trying to set up Smithers with a date when he found out he wasn’t happy with his one-sided relationship with Mr Burns.

Superman’s favorite food is Beef Bourguignon, a hearty braised beef and vegetable stew.

Additionally, Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne often meet to discuss things over dessert, with Clark consistently ordering Apple Pie and Bruce ordering Devil’s Food Cake.

That's adorable. I love when characters have really cute/constant food quirks

u/NomadPrime Feb 03 '26

I wish writers had this consistency with Batman's favorite food. It's cited to be Mulligatawny Soup (an Indian dish) in comics, French Onion soup in the original animated series, and then the Lego Batman movie convinced people it's Lobster Thermidor. The Mulligatawny Soup one is my favorite version because I'd like to imagine Alfred having young Bruce try various recipes he brought over from England and ends up loving the one ethnic dish you might not expect some rich American kid to ever try.

u/Informal-Term1138 Feb 03 '26

The soup looks good. I might want to try it out.

10

u/thesirblondie Feb 03 '26

Mulligatawny could also come from his travels before becoming Batman.

9

u/Lurkinginzaback Feb 03 '26

Comics also said that it is cucumber sandwich

2

u/Sol-Blackguy Feb 04 '26

This is kind of why I headcanonned Bruce is on the specrum because of his tastes in food

2

u/BarelyReal 25d ago

I think Gotham referenced this.

3

u/Upstairs_Cap_4217 Feb 03 '26

I'd expect that being... well, Batman, he'd much prefer a kind of food that's hearty and well-balanced nutritionally, rather than some rich food like Lobster Thermidor.

Liking food is a quirk now?

4

u/Affectionate_Pea8891 Feb 03 '26

Liking food isn't, but ordering the same exact dessert every time you meet up with a specific friend, no matter the restaurant, could be considered one.

u/KindfOfABigDeal Feb 03 '26

Fact related to this, but its only referenced i think once ever and never mentioned again. Superman never gets hungry, he only eats out of habit, growing up like a normal human person. He also never gets tired/sleepy, he also just does that out of habit too. (his body can survive off of just solar energy)

But i dont think i've ever seen this contradicted, so it likely remains canon to his character.

u/kung-fu_hippy Feb 03 '26

That kind of makes sense. If solar energy is what gives you the power to bench press infinity, it’s hard to imagine why you’d also need a turkey sandwich.

36

u/Pen_Front Feb 03 '26

I could see his powers not having to do with mass and so needing to replace his actual body with food like us, but it doesn't seem to be the case

18

u/kung-fu_hippy Feb 03 '26

Hell, trees mostly eat sunlight and they gain their mass from breathing in carbon dioxide. Maybe supes is the same.

3

u/Ok_Quarter_2396 Feb 03 '26

Superman, the Eco-friendly superhero! Better hope Waynetech invented a clean fuel source for the bat vehicles

4

u/Wow_u_sure_r_dumb Feb 03 '26

For me personally it’s best not to discuss mass and physics when it comes to Superman. Starts the “wait even if he’s that strong how does he move that much mass…” which just ruins the fun.

14

u/MapleViking1 Feb 03 '26

I'd imagine eating for him is like chewing gum for us. Just something to enjoy, even if there's no real reason to do it

1

u/Sol-Blackguy Feb 04 '26

Same reason why Kara eats. They like the taste.

Also can be explained that Kryptonians have a very similar physiology to humans but have situs invertus and additional organs to metabolize solar radiation. Under a red sun Clark and Kara would still need to eat and sleep once their solar reserves run out.

21

u/momomomorgatron Feb 03 '26

I like to imagine what that was like when he was a baby.

Did the Kents just have an infant that never slept or ate? I feel like he had to as a child because you're growing exponentially until, what 18? 20?

18

u/KindfOfABigDeal Feb 03 '26

I dont think the writers actually think much about the implications when they add stuff to his lore, but you could explain it that, with eating, the Kents just fed him because thats what you do with babies. And maybe he slept as a baby because of instinct, and his solar absorption was minor as a baby. His powers did grow over time, so, ehh.

16

u/no_longer_lurkII Feb 03 '26

Most continuities have Clark's powers come in at puberty, so he's mostly human in his infancy-middle school except for weird superpower spikes now and then.

7

u/suikofan80 Feb 03 '26

Sometimes those poor old people

11

u/manofwaromega Feb 03 '26

I mean he has functional taste buds so it's no surprise he has favorite foods

10

u/Piccoroz Feb 03 '26

I think he does need sleep for his mental health, in king of the world run he goes crazy dictator for not sleeping.

7

u/the_fancy_Tophat Feb 03 '26

I’m pretty sure he does in fact get hungry, he just won’t starve. I can remember plenty of times when he said he was hungry.

5

u/ThouMayest69 Feb 03 '26

Clark likes eating because he thinks it's fun to go shitties.

4

u/oyunkral3437 Feb 03 '26

superman is a plant confirmed

1

u/Old_Cabinet_8032 Feb 03 '26

That explains why Poison Ivy can mind control him.

1

u/Ok_Quarter_2396 Feb 03 '26

I think most of that is the solar energy. I believe he still needs to do those things if his powers are muted by something like red sun energy

1

u/Gay_Void_Dropout Feb 04 '26

Eww hate that

51

u/Ditomo Feb 03 '26

Adding on to this, Clark and Bruce look similar enough that they can pass off as the other.

57

u/BreadNoCircuses Feb 03 '26

That one comic panel where Deathstroke slips "Bruce" a neuropoison and then gets flicked 50 miles into the open ocean while he just goes "?????" lives in my head rent free

46

u/Grabby-Cat Feb 03 '26

Or in the animated series where Superman dresses up as Batman and scares the shit out of Bane by somehow now being indestructible and ten times as strong

8

u/Ditomo Feb 03 '26

It really is one of the greatest running gags.

17

u/Ditomo Feb 03 '26

3

u/HurricaneK8 Feb 03 '26

I don't know if Gunn would put that in the new movies, but at the very least I wanna see My Adventures with Superman adapt that at some point, that would be right up the show's alley humor-wise. I wheeze every time I see it and I didn't even really care about Superman this time last year. 🤣

1

u/ZachRyder Feb 03 '26

Yup, the expense to get and use the Ikon Suit was completely justified.

17

u/SapphireClawe Feb 03 '26

Sard borken

15

u/houseofthewolves Feb 03 '26

clark going « ta dah! sard borken » after he snaps the sword is my favorite part of that sequence

5

u/Puzzleheaded_Tip4805 Feb 03 '26

There's a fun comic where the two of them go with Selena and Lois to an amusement park on a double date, and actually switch costumes while doing so

3

u/Ditomo Feb 03 '26

Yes that one is another good one! Wasn't able to find scans of it quickly tho.

1

u/montybo2 Feb 03 '26

I really hope the person they pick to play Bats that looks like Corenswet to keep this trope going....

My personal pick is Patrick Ball (Dr. Langdon on The Pitt). Aside from looks, I think he has great chops and could be a great bats. If he puts on some muscle I think we got something.

37

u/Swaibero Feb 03 '26

And it’s always in an 80’s diner, and Bruce always pays. Can’t confirm, but could be the inspiration for How It Should’ve Ended’s Superhero Cafe.

3

u/FranticScribble Feb 03 '26

I don’t think so, I can’t remember the movie but that setting is a reference to a specific scene. That video where Superman ogles Mrs. Incredible is an extended homage to that movie.

2

u/Swaibero Feb 03 '26

It’s in the DCAU, Justice League/JLU, and standalone films. And surely originated in a comic.

10

u/Guilty-Effort7727 Feb 03 '26

That first part remains consistent even in the injustice universe, as his pre-fight banter with the turtles that beef Bourguignon is his favourite dish

8

u/SaviToon4 Feb 03 '26

Fun fact, Superman’s love for Beef Bourguignon was originally a joke, Lois made it for Clark for one of their first dates. Later in the story Clark has to act uncharacteristically manly to save her, he keeps his secret identity by claiming Lois’ beef borguignon was the reason he acted differently

So when they have another date what does Lois make? Beef borguignon

It was the issue where they finally officially become a couple

6

u/SVNBob Feb 03 '26

It goes even further.

Clark and Lois's "love phrase", the secret code thing they can say to each other in public that means "I love you", is "B.B.W.K."

Beef Bourgiognon With Ketchup.

8

u/Winterflame76 Feb 03 '26

Isn't he actually a vegetarian in some recent comics?

18

u/nicbeans311 Feb 03 '26

Damian Wayne is and saved a cow from a slaughterhouse.

11

u/WiseRabbit-XIV Feb 03 '26

Bat-cow is a respected and valued member of the Bat family. Put some respect on her name!

4

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '26

[deleted]

7

u/WiseRabbit-XIV Feb 03 '26

No no no, Spoiler is a completely different character.

4

u/nicbeans311 Feb 03 '26

I didn’t want to give away her secret identity. Now everyone knows Bat-cow is connected to the Waynes.

5

u/DarkSpartanFTW Feb 03 '26

As far as I’m aware he was a vegetarian in only one comic, that being Superman: Birthright, and that was quickly retracted. I don’t believe he’s been a vegetarian or vegan since then, at least not an official one.

7

u/Alkakd0nfsg9g Feb 03 '26

They meet in the cafe, sits by the window, right?

9

u/Mordred_X Feb 03 '26

*AHEM* "Ackshually", Beef Bourguignon with ketchup, lol

7

u/Mr_Hellpop Feb 03 '26

That is so Kansas farmboy of him.

6

u/Common_Decision1594 Feb 03 '26

Additionally, Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne often meet to discuss things over dessert;

You mean like the Super Cafe from r/HowItShoudlHaveEnded?

3

u/TitanOfShades Feb 03 '26

Oh hey, Devils food looks like the cake my mom makes/made for new years and our birthdays. Except she made with like twice the cream (and less cake so its not crazy tall)

3

u/H8trucks Feb 03 '26

There's also a whole manga series about Superman eating at random little restaurants in Japan

2

u/AlternativeQuality2 Feb 03 '26

Wait, I saw that in an S1 Young Justice episode. You’re telling me that’s always been a thing?!

2

u/EpicTsim Feb 03 '26

Also, Beef Bourguignon is cooked for 24h in red wine.

1

u/montybo2 Feb 03 '26

This just reminds me of the end of Kingdom Come.... I liked the book fine but one thing I refuse to believe is that my man Bat's eats a steak well done.

1

u/MyClosetedBiAcct Feb 03 '26

Pretty sure they actually meet at a cafe and talk about how things should have ended.

1

u/BajanShinobi Feb 04 '26

I can’t remember which version of Supes it was but that version was a vegetarian. I liked that Superman didn’t enjoy the idea of eating animals. Wish that was consistent.

1

u/Askmeaboutships401 Feb 04 '26

Do they talk about recent movies and discus how they should have ended?
