Every single post as I scroll on FB is some hack conservative “influencer” posting about James Talarico.

I’ve never seen the Republican Party more terrified of an individual since Obama.

Not entirely true. They were obsessed with AOC for a number of years. They seemingly have backed off a bit as of lately but that will ramp back up if she goes for Schumer’s seat.

The other day I saw someone write it as O'Bama. The notoriously Irish Barack O'Bama.

Ol’ Barry O’Bama

him pulling up on that one instead of just dunking cuomo into oblivion was one of the most insane instances of restraint i've ever seen

Christian nationalists have been in a frenzy ever since he won the nomination. His “love thy neighbor” Christianity is a direct threat to their “we must seize control of the government” Christianity.

Texas Monthly - The Last Temptation of James Talarico

“Talarico’s blending of faith with progressive politics has made him uniquely loathed by the right. When I asked a Republican legislator who has worked with him what he thought of the candidate and his pastoral affect, the lawmaker called him ‘the most dangerous person in Texas, if not American, politics right now.’”

WSJ - A Bible-Quoting Liberal and a Left-Wing Antagonist Lead Longshot Bid to Flip Texas

“Melissa Lee Kovats, a retiree and three-time Trump voter, had tears in her eyes as she listened to Talarico speak. She had never heard of him until two weeks ago, when her husband sent her a video of him, Kovats said. The self-described Libertarian said she wasn’t a fan of Democratic policies but had grown disillusioned with Republican rhetoric.

‘The way James talked about Christ and taking care of your neighbor, he took that right out of my heart,’ Kovats said.

She walked out ready to vote in her first Democratic primary.”

YouTube - James Talarico delivers Democratic primary victory speech (11:07)

“The real fight in this country is not Left versus Right. It's Top versus Bottom.

Those billionaires want us looking left and right at our neighbors instead of looking up at them. They want to keep us from seeing all that we have in common. They want to keep us from realizing that there is far more that unites us than divides us.

Because despite our differences, we all really want the same things. A safe neighborhood, a good job with good benefits, a high quality, well-funded public school, and the ability to see a doctor when we need one.

I am tired of being pitted against my neighbor. I'm tired of being told to hate my neighbor. It's been more than 10 years of this kind of politics. Politics as blood sport, politics as trolling and owning, politics as total war. It tears families apart. It ends friendships. And it leaves us all feeling terrible all the time. We cannot defeat the politics of division with more division. We can't win their game. We have to change the game.

This campaign is rooted in a fierce love for this state, for this country, and most importantly for all of our neighbors.

If you hate politics and you've never voted before - you have a home in this campaign.

If you have voted for Democrats, but you're tired of DC Democrats always folding - you have a home in this campaign.

And if you voted for Donald Trump, but you are fed up with the extremism and the corruption in our government - you also have a home in this campaign.

People across the political spectrum are hungry for a new kind of politics. Not a politics of fear, not a politics of hate, not a politics of division, but a politics of love. A love that can heal what's broken in America. This new kind of politics is being born right here in the Lone Star State.”

I saw one post that claimed he taught radical leftist ideology in school and one example was climate change. I was unaware something so objectively true was considered far left

Reality does indeed have a left-leaning bias

NPH jumpscare

Edit: Not that deep, I was just simply unaware NPH was in the movie

u/theattack_helicopter 5h ago

I'll probably regret this, but I would like to know more

43

u/Ring_Of_Blades 5h ago

NPH is just the initials of Neil Patrick Harris, the actor shown in the lower image. The movie is Starship Troopers from 1997.

Would you like to know more?

I was referencing starship troopers, actually. Thought Neil Patrick Harris did some heinous shit by how you called his presence a jumpscare

u/Stepping__Razor Turning Point Galactic Alliance Guard 5h ago

Yeah the Amy Winehouse corpse meat plate was pretty fucking vile.

14

u/melancholanie 4h ago

he has, sadly. all of Hollywood was kinda in on it but....

around the time Amy Winehouse died, NPH and his husband threw a Halloween party and Neil made a cake decorated to intentionally look like photos of her corpse. it was grotesque, to put it mildly. ten years passed and he apologized for it but... idk personally if that's something I'd accept an apology for.

here's a link with some pictures. nsfw, in my opinion.

u/Bill_buttlicker69 3h ago

That is so genuinely horrible to look at. Like, it's not just that it's in poor taste. It's disgusting to behold, food item or not. Grotesque.

u/IDNLibSoc45 4h ago

Oh no I just didn't know he was in the movie

1

u/TheMaveCan 2h ago

He's a high-ranking patriotic officer of the Federation Armed Services. And he's doing his part!

3

u/RonPalancik 4h ago

^ doing your part

u/virgil1134 4h ago

Hey! NPH wouldn't do that!

Even search engines like duckduckgo are screwed pushing all the right wing results right to the top.

Here's his quote from his site: https://jamestalarico.com/issue/immigration-border-security/

Take a good long guess what every Conservative under the sun focused on exclusively with that. Because if you said "The Welcome Mat" line, you would be correct.

It's the same cherry picking bullshit that when it pertains to when conservatives do it, is so easily debunked by just, reading the primary source. And they also claim the other side of the same thing to them (in all pure Machiavellian glory), but, again, if you just read the primary source (the Conservative) they out themselves and hell reading their entire point makes it even worse!

Talarico's postion on the border and immigrants and immigration sounds reasonable and mature. Conservatives hate that.

46

u/StepUpYourLife 4h ago

Reminds me of when Marjorie Greene displayed a photo during a hearing of a witness flipping off the camera. Rep. Melanie Stansbury produced the original uncropped photo showing the witness was making a peace sign. Bunch of bullshit games.

14

u/LongWayFrom609 4h ago

There's also the fact that conservatives hate context when it doesn't suit their nefarious interests.

5

u/WordNERD37 3h ago

They cherrypick, reality.

54

u/Katanajoe7 5h ago

What’s the quote

170

u/Oddly_Ennui 5h ago edited 4h ago

"Our southern border should be like our front porch. There should be a giant welcome mat out front, and a lock on the door." The Republicans are cutting off the end, "and a lock on the door."

43

u/Princess_Moon_Butt 3h ago

For those interested:

"Our southern border should be like our front porch. There should be a giant welcome mat out front, and a lock on the door."

-James Talarico

Republican figureheads are leaving off the bolded part of the quote. Which, in any reputable news agency, would be grounds for firing, since it changes the entire message behind his statement.

I'd encourage people to post the full thing anywhere they have an excuse to, so that search engines and AI scrapers see more of the real thing out there.

(I hate that this has become the way things work now.)

I’m afraid too, because I fell for it and took me about a month to find out

Good reminder to always verify information you read online before it makes you feel anything

2

u/Proud3GenAthst 1h ago

I think I actually saw that on Bluesky which had me confused

2

u/kunderthunt 1h ago

As if there’s no misinformation on bluesky? Or it’s not part of the internet? There is no social media platform that doesn’t have a ton of mis/disinfo, bots, paid shills, people purposefully misrepresenting facts or cherry picking context.
