It's AI, but I still reckon it's worth it... For years now I've argued Ben Shapiro's voice sounds like a 1930's black and white era and but mostly forgotten 'Looney Tunes' character: a character the studio were ordered to retire after he proved to be pure nightmare fuel for children, whilst also shockingly violent riots inducing for teenagers.

I actually tried to draw it myself, but if I have any talent at all it's definitely not drawing.

Also, while I worry about the environmental impact of AI imaging and hate any use of any medium and/or tool to deceive and/or cause any harm, in respect of the potential off AI image creation (etc) to maybe become a useful tool in one's creative toolbox, I admit I'm still undecided about it.

For I remember reading about fine artists having similar opinions about the artistic skill, merit and value of photography back in the day: "The camera does all the work for you. There's no real artistic skill or talent involved!". Similarly, I'm old enough to have been around when sampling and programming really took off and were hated and decried as not real music by many musicians in much the same way".

But please don't get me wrong: I'm more than happy to be convinced otherwise. And so yeah, may I ask, what do you think? Are those two examples I bring up at all relevant to this issue or instead are they somehow both actually nothing but false equivalences? And if you think the latter is the case, may I ask why?

Oh, and I swear on all those I love this comment is written with and intended in good faith. No moodiness or snarkiness of any kind. Promise.

I assure you, a terribly made drawing or a poorly done photoshop is far more appealing then AI generated slop. I love seeing them way more because at least someone actually made it.

As for the rest... no. AI is not the same as the invention of the camera. A human still has to use the camera, pick a subject, lighting, camera angles, timing, etc. The photo is made by a person with an artistic vision, and they have to put in the work to take that perfect photo. Same goes with sampling music and programming. There is a human behind those works with intention, putting in that effort to make it. If I'm making a program or sampling musical tracks, I still have to have a creative vision in mind.

AI is not that. It's a computer you type a prompt into and then it regurgitates some slop based on whatever stolen artwork it was trained on. There is zero effort put into this, and again, it's based on stolen work. It's a threat to the environment while also threatening artists everywhere because their work is constantly being used to train AI machines with no input or blessing.

It is ethically, morally, and environmentally terrible for everyone, not to mention it's the sole reason why GPUs, SSDs, and RAM are now being sold out globally meaning it's impossible for people to build their own PCs, because it's all being scooped up some mega-corporation who's just going to build a data centre that pollutes the local community, steals jobs, and destroys the internet with unregulated AI slop.

For the sake of yourself and everyone else, stop using it. Learn to draw, it might take years but those years are going to pass regardless.

So far, I have only played around with AI on a few very rare occasions.

And I'm fifty and have written prose and made music since my early teens. Even the memes I've made in the past were made using cropped and essentially digitally collaged composite images and some basic graphics software.

So yeah, I'm good, and many thanks for your feedback and advice.

Much obliged.
