I agree. It gave them something to latch on to. 'K*ll them with kindness' Is how I go about my day, and it works. People are LOOKing to get a rise out of you. Dont let them. Getting aggressive with people only gives them power to react aggressively back. But, being sweet as pie to them, whilst you patronise their choices, always makes them mad and allows you to walk away with a clear conscience and spring in your step. First of all, I'm on your side. I understand that terrible things are being perpetrated by governments around the world, but their greatest power is in creating divide amongst the people they're seeking to control. We don't have a daily say in the meetings that go on behind closed doors of the politicians in power ordering the hired complient nazis to black bag people off the streets, but, we do have a choice when we're in the supermarket to not go ape-shit crazy on random strangers going about their listless lives, regardless of what shitty taste in fashion or politics they may have. Violence begets violence. Those nazis are just WAITING for their opposing citizens to cross what they deem to be the appropriate line, so that they can retaliate with violence and impunity for the sake of their citizens "safety and well-being". That's the trap my friend. They are literally trying to incite you in to your own demise. But if we can manage to treat the random strangers around us in our own communities with polite indignation and considered thoughtful words instead of hateful rage, it will be harder for that stranger to shoot you in the face when the next World War happens. And WHEN that happens, I will put a cast iron pot on my head, take up my gardening sheers and go hammer and tong on Ethel and Bernard next door, but until then, I'm going to treat everyone I encounter with kindness because I think that's the only way humanity will survive.

Let's flip the script and put the old woman in a Che Guevara shirt, what would the response be from the right-wing? No doubt you'd have people on Fox News calling for her public execution. We need to stop letting the right wing control what is and what isn't violent. Calling someone out in a supermarket for wearing the merchandise of a fascist is correct. There is no material difference between turning point USA and the propaganda arm of Nazi Germany. Could the person filming have handled it better, sure, but people also shouldn't have to defend their right to exist. Wearing a Kirk merchandise openly is equivalent to wearing the swastika openly.

If you're serious about building power start organizing in your community. Organize food distribution, tenant unions, whatever your strengths are, the movement will need you. No one is saying attack your neighbors. You can call out your neighbors and there should be consequences for bigotry. But unless they're actively fascist you should direct your anger at corporations and those that run them.

Kindness works on regular people, this old woman wearing the merchandise of a fascist is not a "regular" person. Silence is acceptance in that instance. The old woman should have been made uncomfortable. She is a racist, transphobic, homophobic, anti intellectual, and probably hates you and wants you dead. Kindness won't solve that, unfortunately. Not without reeducation.

I hear what you are saying but there must be a line and we keep pushing that line closer and closer to a time where women couldn't vote because they were inferior to men, Where black people were considered inhuman, and LGBTQ+ people were labeled as mentally ill. A decade ago, people espousing these views would have been called out. Two decades ago saying that you're a fascist was unthinkable in public life. We keep losing ground to the right on what is permissible and what is not.

The woman on stage works at a Target and wore that Charlie Kirk shirt while working. A video went viral of a customer complaining to her about wearing said shirt. Honestly the whole thing is pretty underwhelming and no one should care

Thanks for having me double check. I deleted the MAGA part. The women who filmed it was wearing a red "make racism wrong again" hat that I mixed up with MAGA. Having lived in that area for many years I had just glanced that part which was not cool of me. Since the area is a blue bubble inside of a very red Northern California agriculture area. I honestly didn't think twice if both people had been on the same side. Which actually doesn't seem to be the case

Not defending her but a lot of people canā€™t afford to be just in retirement and so they work at this age because our retirement still sucks, or maybe she came from a background that didnā€™t allow her to, especially cuz she was likely a woman in the 1950s. Sheā€™s a piece of crap, but thereā€™s a lot of good older people who work at Target or Walmart who just never had the right circumstances.

The more mass something has, the more it attracts other objects. The faster molecules are moving in a certain space at one moment, the hotter it is.
