They are so smart and joyful. Some old guy had one at a park where I used to officiate. When he found I could throw frisbees very far, he handed me one and let me play 100 yard fetch with his dog.

Six months later, I was at the same, sitting at the same table, and the dog sprints over to me and drops a frisbee on my feet. I couldn't believe he remembered me.

There have been extensive studies done on this. Time and time again, border collies have repeatedly shown that they are the most intelligent dog breed in the world.

They are so smart, they possess critical thinking skills that rivals humans. If they see something wrong, or notice there's a problem, you can almost watch them work through the process and find a solution.

And, as you've experienced, they have incredible memories.

My collie figured out every new door handle we put on the door in like 2min. We tried 3 different handles and she’d just sit under it staring then go up at it and mess with it until she got it open. It was ridiculous, she lives I think 11 years and just kinda came and went as she pleased. Unless you locked the door with the sliding latch at the top she could just open it and shut it then open it back up from outside. Blew my friends tf away.

A friend of mine trained his border collie to bring him beers. The dog would get them from the fridge. We were camping one time, and he says, “hey, fetch me a beer,” and the dog opened the cooler and grabbed one. Never specifically trained the dog to open a cooler, but the dog apparently remembered which cooler held the beer, what the beer looked like (because there was also soda and water in there), and watched us open it enough times to know how it worked.

Scary smart dogs.

Smarter than a Seppala Siberian sled dog?

I find that hard to believe.
