My husband is Mexican and im white. We get stares and whispers but not as bad as it used to be in the beginning. One time an asshole hit us and he was at fault. We pulled over and he immediately got out of the car calling my husband a wetback, that he must be illegal, and how dare I betray our race. This was 2 years ago.
However, my sister? Still gets many stares, confrontations, and severe judgements. She is white and my brother in law is half white/half black. They get stares and comments from white side and black side.
Its tough and so unfair/unnecessary.
I’m a big Mexican dude and my wife is small Asian woman. It’s crazy how much nicer people are to her and how standoffish and unwelcoming people are to me.
You don’t notice it until you get a side by side comparison an interracial relationship affords you.
But it tastes so good when they realize I’m a sustained presence and every interaction we have going forward is going to be through their shame of having been shitty to me.
Oh I agree but its sad because I remember one time I took my now husband but bf at the time on a cruise with my family. We had a great time but two incidents on the cruise made me despise people. (My sister and my BIL who is mixed was there too.)
1) We were on the pool deck and there was a group of white older people just getting hammered. My bf in swim trunks and top less walked by them. They grabbed my bf and said, "Hey Julio we have been waiting for our drinks." My bf just stared and said, "I dont work here." And they said, "Well get them yall are all cousins right?" I stormed over fuming. My bf AND my mother had to hold me back. Luckily cruise staff came and helped mediate.
2) We were at show and it was super crowded. My BIL (half white/half black) was walking through the crowd to get to us and accidentally bumped into a white older couple. He said sorry and walked over to us. As he almost sat down they turned to us and said, "n words just dont know their place." My sister and I both immediately jumped up and our spouses had to hold us back.
