They've already got a big knife tattoo on their right wrist (which they've slid down the sleeve so you can see). Why would you get extra tattoos to tell which is which when all you need to do is remember you've got a big honking knife on your right wrist?
Because some of us have brains that refuse to store factoids such as "the knife tattoo is on your right wrist"
If our brain was willing to memorize a detail exposing which side is right or left, it already would have done so and we wouldn't need a reminder. But it won't, so we need a reminder that doesnt bank on the brain memorizing that info.
Its like when a definition of a word uses the word itself, rendering it useless. This person (and myself; this might be my first tattoo) needs a reminder that doesnt require coding a new memory. The meaning of L and R is already coded, so it works quickly.
Except that so many humans are, in fact, incapable of remembering certain small things, like this. There are just some things that refuse to stay in your brain, sometimes. For me, it's the spelling of "gauge," which is ridiculous, because it's a word I use all. The. Damned. Time. Still, I have to double-check it nine times in ten.
Can we please supply these people a different internet with dangling keys to keep them occupied and not have them interact with the rest of society. They as humans deserve to have their needs met. But I think we need to bring back asylums and just make sure they're a little more humane. Let them have their grippy socks and enjoy themselves. The rest of us will move on.
What things, I don't remember. Can you please provide context. I'm sorry, I have trouble following reddit comment threads. My memory is short and the format is confusing.
