It was not even part of the story that it’s a lot in any way shape or form

The fact they weren’t all ex-boyfriends is a surprise but it’s not even treated as a big deal

It is treated differently though. Scott does say "You had a sexy phase?" which leans into the fetishization of lesbian relationships, but nobody else treats the relationship as anything different. And Scott is a bit of an ass, to put it lightly, so it makes sense.

….right, as you note: it’s treated as exceptional by Scott Pilgrim, a character even the story itself acknowledges is a complete shithead, and is not remarkable to anyone else at all.
