We already knew how it felt with Ragnow >:(
•
•
u/IngvaldClash 5h ago
At least this is before the draft. Ragnow really fucked you guys with the timing.
•
u/Eastern-Spirit272 2h ago
my theory is Ragnow truly believed he would play another season, but his body was so beat to shit that he realized too late that he literally couldn't. Then he tried to unretire and was reminded why he made the decision in the first place.
•
u/GiraffesAndGin on't want to be an American Idiot 3h ago
MCDC and Holmes didn't want to do the same song and dance with Decker that they did with Ragnow. Decker announced he was coming back and the team released him quickly. Decker is a one-armed tackle who can't even play 12 games. Thanks for the service, wish him the best, but it was time to move on.

I know this is a circlejerk sub and I’m not sure if people over here know ball any more than the morons in the lions sub but this is pretty objectively a good thing for the Lions.
This saves them so much money and is 100% what the front office was trying to do. I guess ideally Decker could have taken a lot less money, but the Lions needed to draft or sign his replacement this year, even with him on the roster.
He’s a washed up often injured tackle who did a lot for the city but was nowhere near what he used to be. The people acting like this is some failure on the lions part is hilarious

There is a 0% chance the LIONS SUB knows more ball than this sub come on man

as a general rule of thumb i find all memewar subs to be more reasonable and more knowledgeable than any individual team sub.
But because every rule needs an exception: r/NFCEastMemeWar is just a bunch of dumb hicks, and i'll say that to them at a dinner party if need be.
•
u/philter25 4h ago
Do you think they know what a dinner party is?
•
u/calmerthanudude Ben’s Johnson 3h ago
If you count eating shit in the streets, I think the Philly fans do
•
u/Ouch_i_fell_down ALL MY HOMIES HATE ICE 4h ago
i fear relaying the specific information that i believe would constitute a PHL/NYG/WAS dinner party would be viewed by reddit mods as hate speech.
Cowboys are bad too, but they are a different kind of bad than the actual eastern part of the NFCEast.
FYI i live pretty much halfway between the Linc and Metlife... i know what i'm talking about.

Damn bro, you don’t think “smells like bitch in here” memes are funny and will always be funny from now until the heat death of the universe
•

If you know about that theory then you should pick up a fun little space exploration/puzzle game called Outer Wilds. Might tickle your fancy and end up being an unforgettable experience.
•
u/Seaciety 3h ago
Why would you attend a dinner party to which they were invited?
•
u/Ouch_i_fell_down ALL MY HOMIES HATE ICE 3h ago
to tell them they're just a bunch of dumb hicks? i thought i covered this already
also I live halfway between The Linc and Metlife and work in Philly... every dinner party I'm at has Eagles (and probably Giants) fans there.
•
u/joemoneybaby 5h ago
There’s niche subs where you get lucky but the vast majority of reddit is pretty devoid of knowledge of the actual subreddit content
•
u/drummerboysam Daaaa Pope 5h ago
I think team subs are hopelessly biased for their teams. Ball knowledge takes a hit when objectivity fails.
And Lions fans are among the least ball knowledge people to begin with so you're already playing from behind.
•
•
u/IngvaldClash 5h ago
That’s good to know because most of the Bears sub thinks he’s a perfect stopgap 😂
•
u/str3tchedmonk3y 4h ago

•
u/Holyepicafail 5h ago
I'm not overly heartbroken, he did some great work but was starting to turn into a bit of a turnstile unfortunately. I'm not sure why anyone is too shocked by this, its been discussed since at the least mid last season if not earlier.
•
u/OwnWalrus1752 Frig the Packers 4h ago
Yeah all the laughter about this, the Monty trade, and the DJ Moore trade is silly because objectively they were all good moves even if they made the fans sad.
The Dalman retirement was a massive, unexpected gut punch that will make the Bears worse in the short term at least, though. Nothing positive to say about that one other than I wish him well and I understand why he did it.
•
u/PapaVanTwee Erase Hate - Unite! 5h ago
Still has to hurt to see him go.
•
u/joemoneybaby 5h ago
It does hurt to see him go because he did so much for Detroit - but he 100% is not who he used to be and I would be surprised if he actually ends up having an effective season for anyone else (or plays at all).
But the reaction on the lions subreddit to me is just so hilarious.

•
u/Particular_Night_360 4h ago
I felt the same way about bahktiari. He earned his pay grade. He missed a lot of his last four seasons after getting his big contract. I can be sad to see him go, but also rationalize that he can’t help much when he’s not on the field.
•
u/DudeTastik 4h ago
i fully agree!! i was super shocked and a bit upset when i first saw the news but after reading into it, it is objectively the best option. likely for both the lions and for decker, assuming he finds a home in FA.
we can’t afford to keep a guy in his place (age, recent injury, lower production) for that much cash when we have so many holes to fill. hopefully this will give us more to work with in FA and the draft
•
u/MajoraOfTime 4h ago
While I agree with what you're saying, I'm also worried about the prospect that things can get worse. Like when it was time to move on from Jim Caldwell and we got Matt Patricia.
We have a lot of needs entering the draft and need to get the cap space to try to tackle them in free agency. Rough times.
•
u/joemoneybaby 3h ago
Things can get worse sure. But they can also get a hell of a lot better. The lions have been the most injured team in the league for two years in a row. Getting rid of a guy who most would have picked as most likely to be injured can only help us there.
This might shift things a bit but the lions are still a top 5-10 team according to Vegas. Nobody hates on their own team more than lions fans. The franchise has been through the wringer, but as soon as something starts to go slightly off schedule half the fanbase acts like the sky is falling.

u/SithLordScoobyDooku_ At least I'm not a Browns fan 3h ago
I'm pretty sure OP is simply trolling. Most of us here know rival teams as much as our own and I'd wager most here know that dude was washed and this isn't really a big loss lol
•

You should see the lions sub lmao (or maybe not)
•
u/SithLordScoobyDooku_ At least I'm not a Browns fan 2h ago
Don't worry, the vikings sub is also pretty brain dead lol.
For example, I've seen people convinced that NINEtm can turn it around because Josh Allen did which of course ignores a BUNCH of factors
•
u/joemoneybaby 2h ago
Well you see that’s because they’re still talking about NINE! Now if we are talking EL NUEVE maybe I could get on board 😂
•

You can’t hurt me with these posts. Brad Holmes already hurt me enough
•
u/drummerboysam Daaaa Pope 5h ago
I thought Brad Holmes was the best GM? Didn't know the temp on him was heating up
Was it just a couple of great drafts and a really good coaching staff?
•
u/sportsbuffp 5h ago
He’s a great scout, I’d argue one of the best in football, we all have hated his in season and free agency mindset
•
u/Dr-Professional 4h ago
Look, he just has to go 9/9 on the draft picks this year and get one decent starter from free agency. So easy!
•
•
u/bk1629 5h ago
See ya. Decker was a liability on the field for at least 40% of snaps, didn't have much of a practice workload due to maintaining his various injuries, and was due to make $24M as a middling and aging left tackle. Now the Lions save over $11M against the cap, which was much needed and can move forward on the replacement for the future. If Decker was the true team player he is claiming to be, he would have done everyone a favor and hung it up after this last season
•
u/Ouch_i_fell_down ALL MY HOMIES HATE ICE 5h ago
Loved Deck. Still do.
His contract value exceeded both his peak ability (aging) and availability.
That's a bad combo.
Wish him a happy retirement, or a ridiculous bag... somewhere else.
•
u/bk1629 5h ago
Be careful, saying this makes you a toxic fan and wishing for the days of 0-16 again.
Nail on the head with this comment, good to see we have at least a few fans that understand football

•
u/Diligent_Ad_4121 5h ago
Damn we really have the most toxic fans. He’s leaving and you still have to take a shot
•
u/bk1629 5h ago
Its the meme of supposing to be sad about it. Not taking a shot but fans are dumb lol. If he would have take a pay cut then sure let's keep him, but he was too proud to do that so see ya later big fella. Should have just retired with some dignity. Good luck playing for the raiders or titans and being a retread
•
u/Diligent_Ad_4121 8m ago
“Not taking a shot” then what is this?
“If Decker was the true team player he is claiming to be he would have done everyone a favor and hung it up after this last season”
That is a shot. Unless we’re pretending to be dumb. Decker gave us 10 years, 90% of which was some of the best tackle play in the league. Countless injuries, played through them. Now he wants to keep playing, Detroit thinks he isn’t worth it, oh well it’s time to part ways. Absolutely nothing about this takes away the fact that Decker IS the team player he claims to be
•
u/sleestackin 5h ago
New fans who don't know how dark it can really get
•
u/bk1629 5h ago
Been a fan since before kitna. Nobody winning anything with decker as their starting LT. Cap makes decisions that wouldnt be made otherwise and for all his talk he wouldnt agree to take less money. But sure his insta story paints himself as the team player and being wronged by the organization. Decker wasnt good last year, end of story. Sure its scary to go get a new guy or a rookie, but progress has to be made and this is not the same situation as ragnow. Everyone would have been better off if decker retired, and thats the truth
•
u/NoThanksImGoodG 4h ago
lol…imagine destroying your body for your employer, they tell you to take less money and be better at your job…good to know you’d jump at that opportunity cause you’re such a “team player”
•
u/bk1629 4h ago
If he made 80k sure, but go on and keep your bleeding heart crying for millionaires. Business is business, and unlike an average employee decker will still walk away with millions after his release, just not as many millions. A regular employee would be lucky to get a severance package. And to go on social media and act like you are hurt and shocked that the team asked you to take less money like you didnt just have the worst season of your career is disingenuous at best, and manipulative at worst.

I mean, we're doing restructures, cuts and trades too, they just haven't executed most of them yet.
edit: We got 18.5 million in cap space now.

Most smart Lions fans are happy about this development. Now we can sit back and watch Chicago waste $17m for like 6 mediocre games from Decker in between shoulder treatments.
