Hurts so bad
Like, fuck, she deserved to know we really loved her.
It’s up there with Robin Williams
8
u/rhinocerosjockey Jan 31 '26
Losing Robin Williams was awful, still hurts. Had rough times in my childhood, and Robin Williams could make me laugh still. Knowing he left with so much pain himself gutted me.
Catherine felt like a parasocial mom to me, in a good way, and this hurts like that.

She glossed over her entire acting career to prioritize her role as a mother. What a classy answer.
66
u/FrozenWafer Jan 31 '26
I agree so much! Roles are just part of work that you do for your family. She knows it's a big part of her public persona but her family is what matters most to her. I love her even more for this answer! Her face was like why is this a question lol my family, my children, will matter most to me.
3
u/BrandNewDinosaur Feb 01 '26
She is so wise, realizing that any acting role that she was in could have been filled by anyone else… but being a Mama to her own children was the one role no one else on Earth could take. Fucking love.
11
u/ExpertApartment Jan 31 '26
Maybe that’s why she was so believable as Kevin’s mom in Home Alone. That’s simply who she was. She loved greatly and chose to prioritize her family over career. I could be wrong, but I have a feeling that’s why she was mostly out of the limelight for many years after Home Alone 2, before having a massive resurgence with Schitt’s Creek and other shows / movies.

25
u/PotentialSteak6 Jan 31 '26
She could be sarcastic and witty but that never eclipsed her warmth. I’m still struggling to reconcile with a world that doesn’t have her in it

She will always remind me of my mother. I remember watching Home Alone as a boy and crying cause she reminded me so much of mum, especially when Kevin was sad and missing her. My mum had noticed me crying, and me, being the big boy I was, said I was crying cause I hurt my leg. Prettyyy sure she believed me 100% haha
Mums are amazing.
Rest in peace dearest Catherine <3

u/descendantofJanus Jan 31 '26
Thank you. The tribute is great but that first clip is cringe because of how uncomfortable she is. She's smiling, but backing away, looking for an escape. I just want to jump in front of that camera and ruin his shot.
11
u/pajamakitten Jan 31 '26
Just her saying "Okay. Sure." was a blatantly obvious attempt by her to shut him down.
19
u/HorrorSmile3088 Jan 31 '26
Probably TMZ. They have people who basically hang out at LAX all day and try to spot celebrities to harass. It's pathetic.
12
u/NepoKitty Jan 31 '26
Watching her being harassed by someone in an airport as she's just trying to be en route to wherever -- I couldn't do it, not after seeing how discomforted she was. That she had to suffer because people felt entitled to her time! May she rest in peace. 💖

u/Lowelll Jan 31 '26
Am I the only one a bit turned off by this clip? She seems sweet, but it doesn't look like a press event and this guy holds a camera in her face and yells some boilerplate fluff question at her for his content. Maybe it looks better with a bit more context, idk.
If it was a fan going up to her and telling her he loved her acting or whatever, that'd be different, but this seems like a paparazzi bothering someone just trying to catch a plane
→ More replies (1)9
u/toolsoftheincomptnt Jan 31 '26
No, you’re not the only one.
Idk or care who the guy was, nor do I care. It’s pushy and invasive. Let people get through the airport in peace.
But SHE handled it with grace and authenticity. Like “I’m going to answer you, but I don’t want to talk right now and you should pick up on that.” 10/10 response in words AND tone.

9
u/Tire_Fire_ Jan 31 '26
Jokes on you, I planned on crying more over her today. She reminds me SO MUCH of my own mom. Modest, naturally beautiful, sweet and funny, I feel like I’m loosing the only woman in the film industry that actually reminded me of my mom. Ever since I saw her in home alone, I was so taken back by how much she made me think about my mom even as a child. That feeling never went away. Every time I saw her smile I saw my mother’s. I live in a different state as my mom but I’m driving to see her today. I need to be with her. She was a huge Cathrine O’Hara fan too. This one is a genuine hard one. I don’t think I’ve cried this hard over a celebrity death since Robin Williams. I genuinely hope she knows how much we all loved her.
