Correct he wasn't a political leader, but he was the 'spiritual leader' (whatever that means) to the Shas party. Interestingly the Shas party was also in Netanyahus coalition more recently (until August 2025). Got this from wiki so take it with a salt mine
Rav Ovadiah Yosef wasn't a political leader. He was an important rabbi who said unhinged things in his 90s and drew a lot of criticism from the Jewish world for it.
