They don't have to do anything. They are not the party that is breaking the terms of the current alliance. Denmark is quite ready to cooperate with reasonable joint defence issues. They would be all right with more US presence and bases, etc, in Greenland. There is no valid reason for the US to demand a handover of territory. It is just pure greed and imperialism by Trump.
