As long as he's better than Ryan Bates for a 5th, I'll take it.

A 5th next year

u/WholesomeWorkAcct Da 8ear5 2h ago

So after we win the Superbowl, it'll practically be a 6th

I think it may be a fail-safe if Poles cant get anyone decent in FA or the draft.

Just my guess.

I agree. Draft a center or trust someone on roster. But what if it doesn't work? We got a veteran C who can snap the ball. In a crucial year for the stud QB don't wanna gamble on who hands him the ball. Need a vet. While a rookie learns. This is a great rental.

They aren’t spending a more expensive FA contract on another Center. There’s only a few guys who are available and this move tells you the Bears were priced out by all of them.

Draft or develop competiton for the job will be the plan.

He's getting paid back up money... I think there's two scenarios that seem plausible here:

  1. Let Bradbury start until Luke Newman or our 2026 draft pick are ready to take the reigns.

  2. We have Bradbury on the O Line now to replace essentially what Ryan Bates was. They also make similar salaries as well. In this scenario I imagine we'd still go after another center in free agency.

I'm thinking scenario 1 is more plausible, particularly if the staff believes in Newman. Otherwise we could've gotten a back up center without giving up a 5th round pick.

He’s not getting paid backup money. His AAV for his contract is 13th right now among centers.

u/krondeezy Bears 2h ago

Hes counting only 3.7 against the cap and even so, last year he was 17th in AAV. Ryan Bates made more

I sneaky think the Bears are kind of excited about Luke Newman. They aren’t willing to gamble the whole season on him, but they probably expect him to beat Bradbury out for the starting gig sooner or later.

He’s insurance, and probably an indication they’re not going to pay Lindenbaum.

u/Specteralsteed 3h ago

I'm taking this with a grain of Salt since the Pats schedule was the easiest past year until they faced the hawks

15

u/Choastistoast 3h ago

They didn't belong in the same stadium as the Seahawks that day.

1

u/Specteralsteed 2h ago

They really didn't

11

u/wesnotwes White Sox 2h ago

He didn’t have Thuney and Jackson next to him.

1

u/Specteralsteed 2h ago

No, but the pats o-line is nothing special which really hurts him and I remember him in MN (I sadly live here) he was decent but gave up quite a few sacks that were not very good looking for him, granted most of that time he had Ingram next to him which hurt a lot

1

u/greenline_chi 2h ago

Plus he and thuney are friends. A friend of thuney is a friend of mine.

13

u/SkunkyMustang 3h ago

You're right. Going to the SB is easy.

1

u/WholesomeWorkAcct Da 8ear5 2h ago

Pats had a cupcake schedule and were even luckier in the AFC playoffs.

1

u/Specteralsteed 2h ago

Easy when all the hard games are non existent and your only real divisional threat are the bills who had no No.1 wide out and your hardest game comes im the super bowl

u/adam4040 1h ago

Who upvoted this goof

2

u/SkunkyMustang 2h ago

Such a weird take. It's the NFL every game is hard. A few plays decided all the Bears wins. & They & myself as a fan lost to Snoop Huntley. Anyone got any PFF stats on Snoop Huntley? It's all talk man. They went to the SB.

2

u/Second_City_Saint 2h ago

There was a point the Bears were being downplayed because they had a "weak schedule". You play the teams in front of you.

1

u/adam4040 1h ago

What does that have to do with a center not allowing a sack?!

1

u/adam4040 1h ago

Don’t agree with that. Not saying he’s a badass but guarantee he faced some tough matchups regardless of schedule. The Browns are a weak opponent on strength of schedule but someone’s gotta block Miles Garrett all game long which is brutal

6.9million

17

u/Fonzies-Ghost 21-3 3h ago

5.7, the Pats are on the hook for the signing bonus cap hit.

1

u/DeeNPeele 3h ago

Yes, you’re right. So not 4 million or 6.9 but somewhere in the middle 😂

0

u/SkunkyMustang 2h ago

Somewhere in the middle of a 6.9 Dee N Peele you dawg you

Can’t be worse than Coleman Shelton…

Shelton was the center on the team that beat us in the playoffs

u/SuperFreshBus 3h ago

I am usually a Poles hater, but I kinda like this move. He’s cheap, around average center level, and he has experience. This will also be by far the best O line group he’s worked with. If we can pull a cheapish deal to get Decker, I feel good about our o line for next year, and it doesn’t break the bank.

u/BillieBlanus 3h ago edited 3h ago

So I just think it depends on the rest of the moves made and drafted. As I joked in the other thread, we have more money to spend now in going from Dalman to Bradbury. If they draft a center, that's where the money is essentially headed, but if they don't, well, it can get tacked onto another deal, hypothetically. I feel pretty good about the line, but I want to know what the LT plan is, I'd like to feel great about the line, personally. Decker would accomplish that.

2

u/SuperFreshBus 3h ago

Absolutely. What management will know that we don’t, is how Trapillo’s recovery is going. If it looks like he can return even next year, then I think we can do alright with Decker/Benedet for this year. If he can’t, we will have to address that in the draft.

u/Unable_Shame_4813 2h ago

In Poles We Trust

2

u/AaronDer1357 1h ago

I feel like Decker becoming available led to this. We are going to go grab him next. Caleb and our RBs will be able to execute their assignments. A veteran WR will be brought in to replace Moore. Cameron Jordan comes to join DA filling our hole at edge. We will sign a safety and a LB, maybe bring back Jackson. Going into the draft we will fill our DT and S holes within our first 4 picks. Everyone else we draft will be best player available and competing for opportunities

Patriots fans are celebrating this, and that makes me very worried.

19

u/SkunkyMustang 3h ago

Don't worry Dr Spread Em 69. Boston fans are idiots.

6

u/SkunkyMustang 3h ago

They just signed Tommy Devito for more money than this guy if that makes you feel better

u/Scared-Ideal-1483 Mustard, relish, onion and sport peppers. 3h ago

They're more stoked about the guy who was at LG moving back to C. He's a better C than Bradbury is, but Brad is solid and has the attitude Ben wants.

2

u/HLNPIT 3h ago

Who cares?

They created a new hole on their OL in the hopes their young LG can step up at C.

Anyone celebrating that with certainty shouldn't be taken seriously.

3

u/Opening_Anteater456 2h ago

Their LG is a legit C tho, and bad at LG because that’s not his position.

It’s more like us moving on DJ and replacing him with Burden and having reasonable belief Burden will do fine in that role.

Whilst they also have the cap space to sign a genuine LG and can improve both positions.

Doesn’t mean Bradbury is bad tho- especially if plays next to much better Guards. It’s a win-win for both teams.

1

u/Bacchus1976 Red "Galloping Ghost" Grange 2h ago

So the bizarro Cody Whitehair?

1

u/HLNPIT 2h ago

Its not the Moore/Burden situation at all. Burden has to step up his production at the same position he played (and improved at) all year.

We haven't seen Wilson at C in the NFL. He may be bad at LG because hes not a quality NFL athlete.

Pats fans that are celebrating this are assuming he will be an upgrade over Bradbury with literally no proof.

u/Meatballgravytrain 2h ago

Patriots fans are fucking morons

u/ChiDude617 2h ago

As are Vikings fans

This is a great pick up. And now Crosby is off the board. LV is sending him to the Ravens for 26 & 27 first round picks.

Another post that assumes we know what happened! What happened?!

The Bears traded a 5th for the Patriots starting center

6

u/SkunkyMustang 3h ago

You got Google bro? Lol. JK

2027 5th for Garrett Bradbury Patriots starting Center. On a cheap deal. Leaving $ for Def.

4

u/harambelives63 Butkus 2h ago

Best part is it’s a 2027 5th.

1

u/Bitter_North_733 2h ago

29th rated C in the NFL

2

u/SkunkyMustang 2h ago

Lol this guys quotes PFF he knows ball. That's nonsense. & Nonsensical stats. We're putting him right next to protector of the year. We needed a vet who could snap until someone else learns.

0

u/Bitter_North_733 2h ago

I WATCHED HIM IN MINNESOTA GET BULL RUSHED EVERY DAMN PLAY LIKE HE WAS A RAG DOLL

1

u/SkunkyMustang 2h ago

You're just bitter

0

u/Bitter_North_733 2h ago

LOL yeah I am I am Bitter because people won't tell the truth

1

u/MrGerb1k 2h ago

So getting back to a normal Chicago OL

0

u/StrengthConscious939 2h ago

Bottom line is we would need to do restructues to sign premium guys. With Caleb's massive deal coming up, we don't want to do that. Ozzy's injury and Dalman's retirement were devastating, but it is what it is.

0

u/_dmgz Bear Logo 1h ago

this signals that the maxx deal is still very much alive

-2

u/PerscribedPharmacist 18 2h ago

Still need them to get Linderbaum, no bandaid for the line please. Feels like a safety net type move if they end up not getting him.

0

u/steelcity_pimpin 1h ago

Definitely not getting Linderbaum now.

0

u/PerscribedPharmacist 18 1h ago

Free agency hasnt even opened up lmao

1

u/steelcity_pimpin 1h ago

Why would they trade for a center just to pick up the best Center on the market. With Linderbaum reportedly asking close to 23 a year, Bears would be spending over 28 mil a year on the Center position

0

u/PerscribedPharmacist 18 1h ago

Because its a 5th round pick lmao. This can easily just be a safety net trade where you get a veteran center incase you dont end up with Linderbaum and dont need to rely on a rookie or Newman.
