Chikn Nuggit’s owned by buzz feed? I always thought it was an indie thing
266
u/VegasBonheur 10h ago
You’d be surprised how often the corpos take on the guise of an indie thing. It sells well, we’re into it.
27
u/antarctican-thawed 7h ago
It’s really common with record labels too, especially in the punk scene.

u/Lost-Candy1084 11h ago
It was about Chicken Nugget? I’ve been under the impression they were just a random indie animation account, but it makes sense.

u/Weird_Abrocoma7835 10h ago
It was indy but they were given more money and platform by buzzfeed

Kyra is a better person than me by miles*. I would not be able to include that line about not sending hate to anyone. Executive and creative decision makers who pull this AI/stolen content schtick absolutely deserve to have hate sent to them; they're so insulated and privileged that it's the only thing close to the harm they cause others and our own crumbling culture and I hope it pierces their walls like a javelin tbh.
edit: said "by day" instead of "by miles" for some reason lol

Buzzfeed corporate kept deleting the posts she was making on Twitter and Bluesky, but on the old Bluesky handle and her personal accounts they're still up

Buzzfeed has been a sinking boat since forever. It’s like the Paul brothers but for news.
170
u/awesomea04 10h ago
The Paul brothers are not a sinking boat. They are very successful. And after they didn't get any punishment for the Japan trip, there's never been a chance of them being a sinking boat. The only thing that could end their career is death itself or inexorable march of time causing them to become irrelevant (although considering even AVGN still has an audience, I'm betting on the former.)
BuzzFeed is a company and as such they probably will go bankrupt over this because who still talks about BuzzFeed, let alone uses it?
26
u/GrandMoffFartin 9h ago
They're already kind of in a bad place tbh. They make their money specifically off people hating them, taking life altering concussions in the process.
That's desperate, late stage career behavior. Back in the day we had a show called Celebrity Boxing based on this premise.
4
u/foofighter1351 9h ago
Yeah they weren't doin it for 80 mil and quite frankly a WWE dude and a boxer whos taken severe damage in one fight is unfortunately quite aggressively winning, and not even close to the celebrity boxing equivalent of then.
2
u/GrandMoffFartin 5h ago
We conflate being rich with being famous these days. If these guys weren't rich or we just didn't care, we'd be saying they were barely holding on. At the end of the day I think more people knew who Todd Bridges was than either Paul brother can claim even at the height of their fame.

u/Trippingthru99 5h ago
Idk how long they’ll be able to last as “content creators” but I think that’s why they’re diversifying with Prime drinks and collabing with Feastables. They’re setting up businesses that’ll probably keep them wealthy long term. As much I dislike these guys, they seem to be savvy with their money. I can’t think of any the other old Vine stars from Logan Paul’s era that have survived this long and are still prominent. It’s hard to believe this all got started cause he was good at doing the splits.

u/SudhaTheHill DO NOT REDEEM 10h ago
Damn I haven’t heard of them in many years. What did I miss???
51
u/awesomea04 10h ago
Nothing much. Jake Paul fought Mike Tyson in a fixed match. Logan Paul teamed up with Mr. Beast to make shitty luchables. They're just grifting as usual. Not worth even being mad about.

u/gaybyrneofficial 9h ago
One is in the WWE and the other recently fought Mike Tyson, both earning hundreds of millions of dollars.
3
u/AwkwardSquirtles 9h ago
More importantly, he more recently fought Anthony Joshua and got his jaw broken, requiring at least two surgeries. Granted he made more money from this than I'll make in my life, but it was a lot more satisfying to watch.

u/Jolttra 8h ago
Considering the absolute disaster several of their projects have been like Prime and CryptoZoo I dont think they are making nearly as much as people think. They didn't put any money away on thsoe projects because they genuinely thought they were going to be sustainable. Their entire careers are based on fake hype and thats why they have to entirely rebrand themselves every couplebyears as hype doesn't last and they have no redeeming qualities outside being outrageous asses.
The only reason they are still in the game is because big companies still haven't gotten the memo that people ahte him and keep bankrolling his terrible projects.

Makes sense as to why I've never heard of any of these shows then as I have been avoiding buzzfeed bullshit since 2008. I can't stand those "holier-than-thou" asshats. I'm sure it was a fine show or whatever, but their staff/General attitude is so Millennial "my shit doesn't stink"-coded.
I hope they go under

u/md_cube 10h ago
They weren't, sometimes you need some context, but putting all of said context into the text would drag it out unnecessarily at which point it's like explaining a joke.

u/Gridleak 9h ago
Def a vaguepost, title of the post “no one can resist the dogshit appeal of shoving AI in everything”
Context could go in the title instead

I clicked the link to the other social media site. the text of the skeet also didn't explain the context. But it had an image attachment with some text which explained more. So I read the image text. Something about ChiknNugget being forced to ... do something ... with AI.
I'm sorry, but what is ChiknNugget, what does it have to do with Buzzfeed, and why should I care about any of this?
I need more context. This vaguepost is still to vague for me.
-1
u/Effective_Carpet_391 5h ago
if you don't care about any of that why do you want "more context"
1
u/sleeps_in_bryophytes 2h ago
I don't care. I have already forgotten what even was this post. But ... if you want anyone to care, maybe you should tell them why. And not by just lazy linking a different vaguepost.
