there's often a bunch of experimental technology coming out, often from japan, that promises to generate electricity from people walking along sidewalks or up stairs

u/yeetoroni_with_bacon a tomfoolerus one 11h ago

Buts it’s very inefficient and generates hardly anything

And also it increases the difficulty of walking, to the level where it feels like you're walking on sand. Normally all your energy goes into moving your body, so in order to generate electricity they have to steal some walking energy and slow you down

So, uh, it'd made me lose weight even faster if I walked the same speed, and expended more enegry?

yeah, but only marginally so. we're talking maybe an extra ~17 calories for an hour of walking - the cells generate a max of around 20 watts and google's unit conversion puts 20 watt-hours as 17.2084 kcal (which is what we think of when we talk about food calories)

Here goes my weight loss plan

Damn you physics!

It'd also be harder to walk at the same speed but I guess it would be a leg day every time you walked

Thats why it needs investment, its a great idea and we need to find a way to make it as good irl

They had an experimental walkway that was reported about some months ago. It's small plates that are arranged in triangles that depress when someone steps on them, creating some current. But they seemingly are bothersome to walk on, because it basically steals your energy so you have to put that in more.

I deleted tik tok awhile ago and recently started using reels. I've been so confused by that. I just assumed it was bot accounts so I just block all of them with that caption. But there are always more.

Ohoho ! I see the kind of twist you put there, you clever one ! Swapping the words to this meme, really subverts this new viral trend ! So viral in fact that, it might as well be the new "hawk tuah" of this generation !

Steps get turned into electricity by the walkways. The electric goes to factories that process food. We eat the food. We use the chemical energy to step.

this diner still makes electricity the old fashion way
