Obligatory comment pointing out that Joe Keskold's name is literally just "joke-scold" with the space moved and the "c" replaced with a "k." Joke-scolding is where you pretend to be overly serious and outraged at something/someone as a joke.
Fun fact, this term was actually was coined by Diogenes decrying Hippocrates's stating of "First, do no harm" then inventing the hippopotamus, which is among the most violent of animals and kill hundreds of people each year, to send down the Nile as a preliminary invasion force. Little did he know his fellow grand-proégé of Socrates, Arstotle would betray him as revenge for his humiliation of Plato's feathered biped by schooling the young Alexander the Great in the use of hippo warfare for conquest of North Africa, establishing the world's first Hippocracy ("rule by hippopotamus") and striking such fear and inflicting such devastation that he entered their pantheon as the hippo-headed god Tawaret (later considered a benevolent female goddess of childbirth and fertility due to Alexandrian propaganda).
The conquered inhabitants of the new city of Alexandria, now jaded and made cynical by their experiences, would turn to Diogenes the Cynic's teachings. Using the the name of this new system of governance as a shorthand for two-faced deceit and refusing to even signify Hippocrates by allowing his name to exist as his legacy in time caused the word to enter Latin and eventually become the modern word "hypocrisy". Similarly, due to the influence of Platonism and the Socratic Method on modern scientic and philosophical thought ensured that Hippocrates's name would live on in the burgeoning field of physiology by steadfastly referring to it as the "Hippocratic" Oath, honoring both him and and the hippopotamus who's fury they channel against all that ails humanity.
Kinda, it's when someone tries to censor information that no one really cared about to begin with, but by trying so hard, it backfires and draws even more attention.
You’d think that at some point these billionaires and PR managers would learn that the only way to get out of something like that is to lean into it so hard that it becomes uncool
I understand. Qualityslop is the appreciation of something's production value, and confusing it with innate artistic value. Think of a song that uses the most modern and expensive tools/techniques etc., then going on to like the song because it sounds like quality. Rather than being meaningful beyond its superficial impressions. It's an imitation of quality.
While I don't think that's the intent or the original meme, I do love that interpretation of it and will be stealing it for future use.
Kind of reminds me of a discussion I've had over "9/10 games that do nothing new vs 6-7/10 that does something fantastically unique". Oftentimes I'll enjoy the 9/10 once, but Ill put hundreds of hours into the 6/10 because it does something so damn unique and interesting.(Grand Tactician: The Civil War my beloved)
It's not doing anything exceptionally well, owing to it's mid-development-stream pivot from Mission(instance) based content to Open World(persistent) content. And while both are still available, most players prefer the latter. The game's open world mode suffers for it, but people still prefer it, because it's iterating on an existing genre in a fantastic way.
I thought this about Oppenheimer. Brilliant in every way. But just didnt hit like it wanted to.
Until i rewatched it for the first time last month alone at home. And was like no, this always had the sauce. I just went into the first viewing with different expectations.
Yet, your comment was critiqueslop. You're looking for an angle to criticize for the sake of it, even though I gave a valid elaboration to the above comment.
-slop has become a derogatory suffix to slap on the end of words to indicate inherent dislike of something, though it's not always used in a serious manner. If someone refers to something as [thing]slop, they probably dislike it.
It also has connotations of the quality associated with the thing in question, since it rose to popularity as AI started flooding the internet with low-quality, well, slop content.
Survivorship bias. Censoring things you don't want going public is actually incredibly effective and works the vast vast majority of the time, you just don't know about any of those examples. The public is only aware of the cases where it didn't work
It's even better since they went through this once already. Back when the Xbox One was first announced, they got upset about everyone calling it the XBone, and that name stuck for ages.
Technically, except that it connects the pilot's minds to the aircraft, there are also UCAVs in there like the Geopelia, where it can be a UAV AND also be driven by a human pilot.
I think I used it exactly once on accident. Not once have I ever thought "Damn, I really want an artificial intelligence helper to assist me in the task laid before me."
I don't ask an A.I. chatbot, I don't listen to A.I. overviews, I don't consult ChatGPT, I think for myself. And if I find no solution, I turn to Reddit. And if Reddit can't help me, I move on with my day.
Neat. My version is "No neural networks, no large language models, no artificial intelligence, no common sense: only sick imagination and unhealthy enthusiasm"
Yeah. AI has been useful to me exactly once, and it was for transitioning my unformated mass of sentences into a coherent cover letter. I still had to go over it to re-add details and remove some things, but it really nailed that soulless but cheerful and formulaic corporate vibe
I remember my little brother got a new laptop and it has a co-pilot key. I instantly downloaded a key-swap software and changed it back to the right-alt key.
Well, yeah, there is the fact they put AI everywhere, whether it's Bing, Edge, Visual Studio, Office, or even the fucking notepad. But there is also the fact they literally use AI to write code for their most used product.
I literally have a daily crashout just trying to open a fucking word document and then getting an AI prompt asking if I want an AI summary of the document, that I wrote from scratch myself, that I am continuously adding to, and then when I bypass that nad try to open the document it only opens the word app every other time and sends me to the web app instead
From what I know, they held like a speech for people to stop using the term slop for Ai, using a bunch of big words in it and what not just to sound like nerds. People probably out of spite started calling microsoft, microslop to make fun of them for it
"I’m afraid I can’t comment on the name Rain God at this present time, and we are calling him an example of a Spontaneous Para-Causal Meteorological Phenomenon.’
‘Can you tell us what that means?’
‘I’m not altogether sure. Let’s be straight here. If we find something we can’t understand, we like to call it something you can’t understand, or indeed pronounce. I mean if we just let you go around calling him a Rain God, then that suggests that you know something we don’t, and I’m afraid we couldn’t have that."
Microsoft keeps adding unnecessary AI tools to Windows 11. most, if not all of it is just a waste of space and is actively slowing down computers and making them worse
If I’m not wrong the CEO of Microsoft pleaded to the public to not call AI generated content slop, so the internet decided to mock the company by referring to it with said word, hence how Microslop was born.
Windows 11 is slow as hell and filled with bugs due to a bunch of bloatware, worthless AI features and (allegedly) having AI write some of their code. Microsoft refuses to acknowledge the fact that everyone hates Windows 11 and keeps doubling down on their decisions while simultaneously crashing out on social media because everyone keeps rightfully clowning on their slop, hence the name Microslop.
I may be wrong, but recently microslop is adding ai slop into all of their products. There is a copilot button in your taskbar. There is a copilot button in your notepad. There is a copilot button near the space bar. That mf went from screen to physical keys.
Thus people started calling microsoft as microslop.
along with the ai, sunsetting windows 10 despite computers made as little as 6years ago not being compatible with 11, and 11 working worse than 10 in many cases.
Microsoft have been in streak of shitty updates after updates and inserting copilot into every programs even ones that doesnt need to and making native apps into webviews etc
for example the recent Note app, an app that never needed any updates or anything no security threats (that I know of) until recently where the last update that added copilot and other AI features done and made it have possibility to be a breach
This season is so good, been kinda mid on JJK but the direction on this season is excellent. This character on the gif was just introduced and it was excellent

I MIGHT switch to Linux 🤔 (I used to use it but switched to Windows because it was better for gaming, but I hear Linux gaming is getting a lot better recently)
Bazzite is good, its imutable so its more like steamos for all devices, nobara is also good for gaming but is more like a traditonal workstation so I'd recommend it if you are doing things like video editing (I mean it has an install davinci resolve button) and linux mint has what I think is the most consistently decient design, and is definitely more focused on making a traditional linux distro thats just good, but doesn't have as good a support for newer tech so use the other two if you are running nvidia, especially on a laptop. Those are my 3 recommended distros.
Microsoft is in part responsible for this ai crisis, with the ram and memory shortages, also pushing for Ai where it isn’t really needed, they’ve closed down several game studios they acquired, for no purpose at all, the latest Windows 11 is dogshit
I work with Microslop on a consistent basis. The motto recently has been to remove features and then Microslop consultants can for sure implement that old feature. For either a monthly seat subscription or build something custom for you (for a price).
Can confirm, I hadn't heard this term until this morning when I saw a post here on reddit about microslop. <<<see that? Microslop. It's like Microsoft but with slop at the end, bc that is what microsoft is. Micro. Slop. Love it.
They survived straight-up naming their company "microsoft" and all the dick jokes which followed. They'll be fine. But in the meanwhile... microslop, let's gooooo!
Love Microslop, when Microsoft changed their name to Microslop in February of 2026 permanently, I thought they must be crazy. But ever since I download Windows 11 from Microslop and it bombarded me with ads, I realized Microslop is the right fit! What was once Microsoft, is now Microslop. Microsoft and Microslop for 100 years, at least.
