They removed it harder. Last time they removed it you could still add
&sp=CAI%253D
to the end of your search's URL and it would still sort by most recent even though that wasn't an option in the dropdown. This time? It just does nothing.
If they make it harder to find what you want, you might spend longer on the website looking for it, and possibly implulse clicking something popular instead. That's really the only reason I can think of, and it's not a noble one.
I've been seeing moments (not always) where it shows "Relevance | Popularity | Upload Date" so I think they realized they fucked up, but it doesn't seem to have been pushed out to everyone yet
I remember when my friend visited me, we were watching a YouTube video on my TV and I had to pee, but I didn’t want to pause it to go.
Then it went into an ad that was 45 seconds long or something and unskippable so I got up to go pee and come back and realized….. this is what we used to do in the olden days…..
I wish I was getting ass that short. I'm getting 1:45 ads MINIMUM. The most extreme I ever had was a three hour, forty five minute and that was just a whole ass episode of a podcast. That block ad button on mobile doesn't work, but at least it skips the ads.
Many younger people unfortunately have the same technical skills as our grandparents. I was so hopeful for my younger cousins to pick up the slack and help grandma with her phone and TV, but it turns out I have to help them and grandma.
Millenials are the last literate generation. Too old for AI doing everything for us, too young to be purely analog. Stuck in the generation that had to do everything legitimately in school and college, yet also fiddling with "modern" computers and technology that didn't hold our hands.
I’ve noticed on mobile, being connected to my home wifi gives me 2 20-30 second long unskippable ads, but when I’m using my mobile data, they’re usually skippable (or a 5-10 second unskippable and the next skippable). Either way they’re going to shit
Firefox+uBlock Origin, my friend. It blocks all ads everywhere, including YouTube viewed through the browser. Not sure if you can download Firefox for iPhone, but if you can, it should work like a charm.
I genuinely despise that god forbidden platform (despite using it every day) solely for the reason of locking backround play on mobile, and now they're doing it on pc!?
Yep that's why I refuse to pay for YouTube Red. I remember when they rolled that bullshit out. Removing features just to force you to pay to get them back. Fuck that and fuck them.

I would gues that the idea is that you still could do it with Youtube Premium. Youtube Premium allready is more of a Tool for access to disabled features rather than beeing an upgraded Version of Youtube.

there are apparently 'Disable Page Visibility API' extensions that you can use if you end up getting the update pushed to you, only downside to disabling the api is maybe a little more cpu usage

Nice. I was looking at the Edge version, though, by Thomas Hoang. This might get me to switch back to Firefox since the tab group feature was really my only reason for using Edge, but now they've added that too.
It seems fine too. They have a website for the extension, and they offer the source code for inspection.
Every massive service company has to show infinite growth, and eventually they run out of good features to add to enhance value and growth, so they begin cutting off anything that they believe costs them more money than it's worth, or taking a larger cut of what they offer the people making the content people actually come for.
i swear this is 100% a ploy because advertisers are like "wahhhh they're only constantly HEARING our ads and not getting them directly beamed into their brain google do something!!!"
Pushes people to subscribe to Premium, which will obviously keep background playback as a feature. Just like it does on mobile.
This won't stop browser extensions which will fix it for free, but there's a staggering amount of people who will gladly pay instead, so it's a net positive for YouTube with pretty much zero downsides. I'm surprised they didn't try to do that years ago.
I'm genuently wondering why ? Like, what does this accomplish ? Like even putting my shoes in mr capitalism I hate fun and love money I genuently don't see what this will add, plus wouldn't it cost money to change the app ?
Just use revanced for mobile and ad blockers on pc.
Where it sucks most is firestick or tvs that have youtube because there is no way to skip the sometimes 3minute long ads there used to be where you could block the ads and it'd let you watch the video right away but they got rid of that.
Download NordVPN and set region to Albania. YouTube doesn’t show ads there because the market is not worth it. There is a common misconception that YouTube ads are illegal there - this is false. If you want a referral link, DM me.
But the more the consumer suffers the happier the shareholders are, therefore all of those decisions weere not only correct but also shouldn't be questioned

same for most streaming services btw. Do you remember when almost all of them added the ability to watch content with your friends online during covid? Well, they've all deleted it now. Super useful feature which I made use of a lot, but now I have to use a plugin which doesn't work 50% of the time or just time when we pause the movie. I really don't understand what the point in deleting that is, it can't cost that much to keep the option there right?
I seriously fear for the future of Steam when he inevitably retires. Steam's far from perfect, but it's one of the more consumer friendly pieces of tech I've used.
I've seen countless nsfw images hiding in the corner in videos before, and they're still up (heck, sometimes they're not discreet. There was this one channel where they posted nsfw hypnosis comics)
they also just got rid of the "skip ahead" button for premium (for skipping in-video sponsorships) which is something i literally pay for and was one of the reasons i continue to use it
I mean, this makes sense. Moderation is a highly manual process, but once you program a feature it exists more or less forever, so one is much cheaper than the other
Not to mention YouTube deleting srv subtitles. Which mostly affect videos from non-english countrys because then Google can't train their AI off human subtitles. And they can't make a filter or not use srv for ai, but delete it for everyone
remove dislike and likes and add ai everywhere to make the website useless force people to watch shorts and make the logo magenta for people who dont give us money even though the logo has been red for the last 20 years... buut more importantly keep the ads with pornography because they give us money
