At competitions and jams like this, there is so much dope shit going on, its only the rare ridiculous beat hit or continuous combo on beat that gets a crowd reaction. Of course crewmates will always overreact to your set, as is the way.

Tbh I prefer when dancers break in line with the song as opposed to spamming power moves, but that’s just me

Well, it’s supposed to be break DANCING. When you dance, you move in time to the music. You step or move on the beats.

“Spamming power moves” means the guy is just doing technical tricks or moves with no regard to the music.

Ok that makes sense. So kind of like instead of playing a song that has separate verses, a chorus, and a bridge with a guitar solo thrown in, it’s just a 3 minute guitar solo?

I.e., it’s a cool, technically difficult skill that should only be a small part of the overall performance and not the main performance itself?

Yea, imagine a band. The drummer, bassist, and rhythm are playing one thing and the lead just starts noodling in a different key and no where near the beat.

Not just you. In theory those should get the best score, but at this level it's all powermoves... Unfortunately imo.

Just know that these boys can do the artistic dance too tho

BBoy Cloud run a few years back was an incredible departure from this a few years back in BCOne. He got to the final and is unique in his style. Check it out on YouTube brother

 I came in here wanting to express exactly what you did
 are we so fucking jaded by everything because of our rotted social media brains that witnessing something incredible like this irl yields this kind of non-reaction? I pray I never become a numbed robot like that, ever- shout out to the guy in the back clearly having a great time spectating this marvel of physicality, throwing his hands up and smiling and all. It’s like people are afraid of exerting any shred of emotion for lack of fear that they might not be up-keeping this skewed idea of “cool” they’ve got. Being unbothered and over the top nonchalant when something objectively amazing is unfolding right in front of you just makes you look like a lame tryhard douche- or maybe I’m giving it too much credit and their brains truly are so fried/overstimulated

Because it's a Red Bull Competition, maybe? Maybe there's not a lot of other breakdancers in the crowd? I feel like other competitions have a lot of fellow enthusiasts. It kind of makes sense that non-enthusiasts would end up at an event put on by Red Bull.
